A “model“ is not its “dataset“ and “open-weight“ is not “open-source“.
How DeepThink trained its models (read: software's ability to statistically quantify the relationship of information in their datasets) is unique and performant. That DeepThink-R1 has reasoning comparable to ChatGPT-4o when other competitors haven't come close is no small feat.
Further, DeepThink allows you to inspect and modify its models' biases and the weights they use to decide what information to present. They chose to be open-weight, which is broadly more commendable than OpenAI's decision to keep everything proprietary.

I am not trying to praise OpenAI or specifically condemn DeepSeek. OpenAI forcibly scraped the collective knowledge of human history and sold it back to us. DeepSeek built off that same theft.
The GPT industry cares very little for ethics, but if you do, and what OpenAI has done ethically bothered you in any way at all, please do not hold DeepSeek in much higher regard.

The initial prompt was written to combat biases inherent to web scrapers ingesting frequently shared ChatGPT responses to popular prompts such as "Who are you?" by providing unique, niche instruction.

I think I've literally written dozens of posts criticizing Harris at this point, who absolutely deserves to be torn apart for every horrible thing she's gone out of her way to do.
And in the same way, I'm more than fine giving her the W when she goes out of her way against the party's status quo to actually call Trump out for what he is.

I have a need to tell privileged old men living in primarily white communities to shut the fuck up about how I should feel about the cop that sent my friends and family to jail on enhanced charges just to generate better security theater and drive up her own ratings.
I get the urge to see Kamala Harris as someone she's not-- I even get how easy that is for someone who didn't have to endure her policies.
But listen to victims when they tell you they're hurting. You did it once in the '90s.
I survived Harris with my life, freedom, and voting rights intact. Many didn't.
And in case you still haven't read it, I'm voting Harris, in spite of everything I've said, because those are the stakes.
To equivocate legitimate criticism as whining and shut down critical discussion about a candidate's divisive history just feels undemocratic.
