Chrome is shipping a Prompt API - giving websites access to the browser's built-in LLM.
This is the scope creep I wrote about... websites can now pass your page content, inputs and browsing context to an AI baked into the browser itself.

Waterfox for Android 1.2 has now been submitted to the Play Store for review! A lot of under-the-hood changes that took quite a bit of effort. Separately, APKs are also available from the GitHub release page 👇

This is why I drew a line in the sand.
The industry wants to turn the browser into a concierge between you and the web, interpreting and filtering your reality. They call it delegation - I call it a loss of agency.
A browser should be a tool you wield, not something that makes decisions for you.

Waterfox is now verified on Flathub for Linux users, the store listing will be updated pending approval.
Waterfox 6.6.7 will release tomorrow, which includes translation updates, HDR fix for YT videos on Linux and a bug fix for Windows users who are unable to import their profile data from Firefox

I do note:

That seems incredibly broad, am I misunderstanding where this applies? Surely not just a blanket statement?

this doesn’t apply to us, we have our own privacy policy. But bear in mind if you use a Mozilla account/sync you still have to know the terms for those services.
Just from a cursory glance it doesn’t seem there’s anything egregious with the terms of use or privacy policy update - is there anything specific that sticks out? Legally companies have to provide a privacy policy; terms of use aren’t necessary but just seems to state what is already the case.

Waterfox is meant more to strike a balance between having as usable a web, without breaking websites, but getting as much privacy as you can out of that experience. We have some anti-censorship tech (Oblivious DNS) enabled for free as well - but again, it fills a different role than Tor does :-)

@npub18vy…yeue @npub1j3p…yw06 Just to chime in here - Tor/Mullvad fill different niches. If you want absolute privacy, of course I would say do whatever you can to use Tor, but don't expect a web that is easily accessible. I personally don't see the point of Mullvad Browser, because it is a rebranded Tor, using their VPN instead of Tor. So you end up with a still broken web (due to HTML/JS features turned off to prevent fingerprinting etc.), but put your trust in Mullvad to not spy on your connection
