Sounds great, but is factually wrong. The absence of an algorithm makes following/being followed the single most important factor that determines who gets to see what on Mastodon. If your post doesn’t get picked up by your followers, then its journey ends there. Similarly, if you don’t follow the right people, you won’t see the posts you’re looking for. So no, it does in fact matter how many followers you have — more than anywhere else even.
