I just got this message out of the blue.
I wasn't adding, removing, changing nor touching my relay list. It just showed up out of the blue in my direct messages. How am I supposed to know which relay this is?
If a relay requires a fee that's fine. At least let us know who you are so we can decide if we want to continue using your service or look for another one.
Also it would be nice to know how often we will be charged for the service. Since none of the relays I am using are new I will assume this is just a scam.

I've run mine for a bit over 2 years and have had to replace the ssd once. Which means I've had to purchase a total of 2 ssds. the SD cards I've had to change every 4-6 months.
I thought of a laptop because of the built in battery since I live in an area with frequent power outages. Third world rules.
I made the post mainly wanting to see what other people have done.
Maybe in the future I will think about upgrading to a more industrial and more expensive kind of hardware. Or who knows maybe I will got for a prebuild like a start9. But not looking for an upgrade right now

I mean cost of the hardware, cost of the software if any.
I'll go first.
In my case I've a makeshift node and between acquiring the drives, the laptop, replacing hard drives as they break, SD cards and failures as i learned until I got it working well enough, I've "invested/spent" about 700 USD so far.

I have some experience with this particularly. My family owns some land in a rural area outside the city. When we bought it back in the 90s. There were no roads. We needed roads for many reasons among them to get materials in. So that we could build a house in the land we had acquired. We talked with the neighbors, around 200 plots of land that would benefit from building roads in the area. So we got together with them and pooled resources to build the roads. They were rudimentary nothing fancy. Poor lighting I mean they weren't the highways but they were enough for what we needed.
It worked great for a few years. Then the government saw the roads were built in the area and came and imposed speed bumps and speed limits on the roads we built. Then bumped the taxes on the properties around the roads because they now had roads.
Communities build what they need in the size and speed that they need it and can afford.
We live in Colombia so your milage may vary

When you say something in meat space whomever heard it, heard it and if you regret it all you have to do is shut up and that's the end of it nobody else has to hear it from you. The person that heard it has to go and personally repeat it themselves to tell other people. And it's up to the other people hearing it from them to believe it happened or not.
In contrast here in digital space they can share it, re-watch it, copy it and repost it to show everyone your mistake with your face on it. which would be like if someone had a super power to make you repeat it in meat space as many times as they want you to repeat it to show their friends.

My parents in Colombia watched a plot of land they owned "appreciate" from 8 million pesos(cop) in the late 90s to 2000 million pesos in the 2020s. Funny thing is people still think there is a ceiling to hard things like #Bitcoin
When the currency depreciates. Valuations that seemed "crazy" 20 years ago are the norm.

I think we can't separate money from state unless there is a big % of the economy using it without having to go back to fiat at any step of the supply chain.
I believe that won't happen until many more people starts using it. That, unfortunately includes the parasite class. Because while sure, they don't participate in the supply chain they still know people who might. Sure it sucks that it's that kind of people adopting it before other hard working people. But we don't get to choose who gets it first.
I would have loved for my family to get it before Blackrock and the wall street parasites, and the political clowns. But even though that's not how it played out. I think it is still a reason for celebration that humanity is a step closer from the separation of money from state. Regardless of who is adopting it.
