Your updates and insight are much appreciated. I can’t imagine what you and your family have been through and am glad to know you are safe.
One aspect that I know many in this space are particularly focused on, is a conversation around the implications of U.S. sanctions against Venezuela over the years. Have any musicians here been through a copyright lawsuit? I had to go through one with a label when I was just starting out. It drained my spirit in every way. Ended up having to sell my rights in the end anyways. The lawyer I was working with was generous and didn’t charge me as a “welcome to the industry” lesson. Had he done so, I would have been in debt. It’s my belief that the current copyright/IP law is meant to serve major artists and labels with the resources.

Bitcoin is a litmus test for sure. I’ve found lots of engagement in other spaces to be particularly hypocritical, selective outrage and in turn bring out the worst in me (I know the algo has a role to play as well).

Man, I appreciate this post. You hit it on the head. Touring is exciting in the early days, but it’s a grind and unsustainable for most. Even if the band is successful, the pie split many ways amongst musicians and crew often doesn’t amount to much.
It’s true focus on creating has suffered as a result. The early file sharing years were an exciting prospect before the tech companies put their hands in. Nostr/BTC really completes the distribution and financial loop missing from then (and now).

It’s receiving only with Bluetooth, so just wireless audio in. Out is standard headphone jack. Between latency and signal quality concerns, I’m still all in on cables out. I’ve had some baffling troubleshooting even with the pro wireless units. I’m sure the tech has improved but for me the cheaper wireless units coming out especially don’t cut it.
This other unit however has been entirely useful with everything it’s meant to do! Not sure if it could hold up with a band but for practice and solo performance it’s been fantastic.

Throwing out a cool gift idea for anyone who is interested in, or has kids wanting to learn electric guitar/bass.
I’m fortunately passed the musical gear accumulation phase in life, but this tool has been the most useful device.
The “Fender Mustang Micro Plus.” $130.
It’s got amp modelers, effects and a headphone jack. The ability to synch with a phone via bluetooth and practice along to songs is a game changer. Can also be used as an interface to record via USB.
When performing solo I’ll often just show up with this alone and plug directly into a PA.
It’s laughable to think how handy this thing would have been over the years. So many makeshift setups in weird places. Now I’m able to rehearse anywhere and away from a computer screen. 🤙 slap on

I had to deactivate IG recently for peace of mind. Lots of Musicians have been removing their work from Spotify, which is great, but unfortunately the conversation regarding the next step hasn’t been a technical one there. In my best efforts to contribute to the discussion, the algo has pushed outrage bait on the subject and I found myself reacting accordingly. A stark contrast to the emphasis on building solutions here.
We know what to expect there and I don’t want to give up on those who are looking for solutions… but only in small doses moving toward. Learning context from this experience nonetheless.

Makes total sense and your article was completely insightful. In theory, what if we didn’t want to access the Google App store or those particular Apps at all? Is it even possible to run any other OS on the Daylight? Forgive me if I missed this. For example, I’d like to use it just to read/write.

Appreciate the swift response. Makes total sense. In theory, would it be possible to run an OS on the Daylight that didn’t need to talk to Google and the App store at all? I know it’s baked into their current system. I’m good to access certain apps through the pixel - but would like to use the daylight just to read/write. Only 2% of the time is spent performing and connecting, which is invaluable.
The rest is spent at gas stations and watching the highway go by - the same as our opportunity cost in life.

Thanks for responding to this. Absolutely agree with everything you’ve mentioned. I think it’s worth noting the type of marketing used here too, as with this CEO, so many users just buy into this sort of talk. It’s a shame that a lot of our technical concepts are un-sexy to most, therefore many overlook them. I also found it ironic that this Op-ed from Patreon was behind a NYT paywall, because of course.

Thank you for articulating the words I’ve been looking to find. I’ve found that many musicians have done almost everything other than read into the foundations of how the internet and protocols actually work. Therefore, many are accustomed to pointing the finger rather than having the empowerment we experience here. I understand and sympathize which is why I’m trying my best - but every time I am surprised with the negativity that gets thrown my way. I know what to expect, but every so often a few light bulbs go off and it makes it all worth it. I also like to test the waters - to challenge myself and others. Today I was called an apologist and when I asked this person what her solutions were she said “I have no solutions and it’s not my job to educate you, read Marx.” Meanwhile, we are all taking the time to educate and build.
For this reason, I’m focusing on a lead by example approach moving forward. Less trying to convince folks and more showcasing what we’ve built. I think we all hold a unique perspective being active from the Napster era until now. Many NOSTR users are here because of their principals, a stance many musicians including myself, weren’t able to stand on in our careers. I’ve always kept my ethical and moral ambitions for the industry in a hidden pocket off to the side and I am blown away to see that reality coming into fruition. 2026 is definitely going to a be a big year.

Absolutely. That’s what we’re all doing here. The challenge I’d like to address is how to teach others about the tools that enable v4v to exist. The tech we use is still very much a foreign concept to most. I believe anywhere Bitcoin is implemented in the mainstream will be progress for what we build here.

I think it’s important to recognize how folks in other spaces, particularity those without a background in software, view and respond to issues that are being addressed in this space. I went in the trenches about TIDAL today - I’m trying to humble myself with how to best convey new concepts. I’m not very popular. This was my response:
“Tidal developers have hinted that they will implement the Bitcoin lightning network, as Block has recently shown with Square and Cash App. These moves have been some of the first from major platforms to implement open protocol standards. For Tidal, this tech could mean real time royalty settlements or the ability for users to tip artists directly without 3rd parties. There has been much talk on this page about legislation reform and justified criticism of currency systems, but little mention of the open source developers who have been making strides from Napster to now. My advice to any serious young musician, would be to reallocate a fraction of practice time to studying computer science, particularly the history of decentralized systems. It’s unreasonable to assume everyone can become a software expert, but the fundamentals will help anyone recognize new tools when they arrive. I hope this message comes off as nothing but constructive.”

For the first time micro payments (<$1) are feasible. Now it is possible to send creators tips through posts and have every streaming royalty settled in real time. This makes the current PROs look as outdated as manual credit card swiping. Not to mention eliminating transaction fees and reliance on banks and governments.
I’m happy to help anyone implement and understand these tools to help build better solutions. If anyone wants to debate I happily accept.
My point in saying all of this - is that now is an excellent time to learn and reinvent. We’ve all seen the writing on the wall.
This recent cash app/square play is massive because it gives plug and play access of this tech to millions of users. Raising the bar as an industry standard.
