End Of 10 Campaign

Extended support for Windows 10 ends on 12 October 2027. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you could make your current one fast and secure again?

https://endof10.org/

By installing an up-to-date Linux operating system you can keep using it for years to come.

The campaign is software-neutral and we will be boosting posts from numerous FOSS projects.

It's 14 October … but #EndOf10 is not ending. We now have another 12 months and we are only getting started! 🚀
#Microsoft has delayed #Windows10 End of Life to 13 October 2026.
They say it is "free", but really it's at the cost of your data while tying you to a corporate ecosystem. It'll only be harder later when the time comes to move on.
Why wait to try 🐧 #Linux? Find a place/event near you to liberate your hardware today: https://endof10.org/

Reason 3 To Choose Linux 😍
It's better for the planet! 🌍
Hardware abandoned by #BigTech is often still supported by #Linux.
Software drives #eWaste, the fastest growing wastestream worldwide. Disposal brings significant risk to the environment, workers and communities.
Further, device production accounts for 75+% of #carbon emissions over its lifecycle. Keeping a functioning device in use longer reduces #CO2.
At scale the savings are huge!

Interested in coding?
Software developers are first-class citizens with Linux.
You are not only able to contribute, but are encouraged to.
Imagine becoming part of a huge global team with the goal to make better software for everybody. You are part of something much bigger than yourself, and you often make friends in the process.
Not only that, you also learn how to work with other people in a community, which is a very valuable skill in any career.

Reason 5 To Choose Linux 😍
Education!
Learn how your technology works! #Linux 🐧 empowers anyone to learn their systems and experiment.
Linux is #FreeSoftware #OpenSource. The source code is open for all, and you are encouraged to explore and contribute.
With proprietary software, you need permission to access the code that runs your digital life.
Linux? The software is available to learn from and improve. For everyone. Always.

Reason 6 To Choose Linux 😍
Gaming … yes, gaming!
Can I play games on 🐧 #Linux? Yes you can, and it has never been easier!
Using a #SteamDeck? You are #gaming on Linux already 🚀
#LinuxGaming has entered a whole new era over the past decade. Thousands of popular AAA games run seamlessly on Linux and, in many cases, performance is equal to or even better than on #Windows, especially on older hardware.

Reason 7 To Choose Linux 😍
You decide when to install updates and reboot your computer!
Security updates are critical. They should be done early and often to keep your computer safe.
But you don't want your device to force an update - and then reboot - while you're working.
With #Linux, the decision when to update is yours.

Reason 8 To Choose Linux 😍
No online account required!
With #Linux you don't need to create an online account to set up or enjoy your new operating system.
As it should be.
It's that simple.

Reason 9 To Choose Linux 😍
No AI bundling! You decide if you want generative #AI / #LLM tools on your operating system.
There are many reasons to use or not use #genAI.
These tools are powerful, but also power-hungry in training and use.
With a critical eye they may speed up productivity, while feeding you confabulations / hallucinations.

#Windows11 collects a lot of data, by default!
This includes browsing and location history, lists of connected devices, typed, handwritten and spoken content, and much more, all sent back to #Microsoft :microsoft:
If you didn't know, now you know.

Reason 10 To Choose Linux 😍
Linux 🐧 is more private, by default
Own and control your data!
Your operating system won't record your key strokes or dictation, collect lists of devices and their Wi-Fi details, or webcams, printers and anything else plugged in and then send that back to Big Tech HQ.
It's possible to avoid data collection altogether, from the start.
With #Linux YOU decide how to share YOUR data.

The End (of Windows 10) is nigh!
On 14 October, #Microsoft will end support for #Win10.
This will turn hundreds of millions of computers that cannot upgrade to #Win11 into security risks and #eWaste.
