I'm thinking about what a Local Internet looks like. Can we build a setup, local servers, local webdevs, local helpdesk. Get local businesses to pay us to make local pages. Organize local delivery drivers. What if we didn't scale?
Could we make it work? How big a city do we need?

But yeah, I know the original toaster just just a toaster with compute attached. But these days, for some godforesaken reason, we have toasters sold with compute attached, and I bet some of that compute could run netbsd. I'm just hoping someone has listed the compute inside different toasters, and then figured out which ones can be programmed for netbsd.

@Stuart Longland (VK4MSL) Oh - yeah - I can put any board into a toaster and get value - but is there a board in a known toaster we can already run it on.
This came about because I was talking to a friend about "NetBSD has an existing build for MacOS power supplies" and then my son overhearing it.

My 7 year old heard about the netbsd toaster and now wants to try to build one. Has anyone found a toaster model that has enough guts (and the right guts) to run #netbsd recently? This is outside my baileywick so I'm hoping there's some prior art.

The problem with parental controls, is that my kids are 3 and 5. I don't want them exposed to raw unfiltered internet. But I also know that they *will be*.
This means that parental controls are a war I'm trying to figure out how to let my kids win in the most gentle way possible. I want them to win without feeling smarter and better than me, and like they're invincible. I want them to become aware of the fact that the internet is a complicated place, I don't want them to fear, but I also want them to respect. I dunno - parenting is hard.

One of the things that is destroying the web is WASM and JavaScript.
This isn't really even a joke - it's literal.
By having all these tools to make a web browser have unfettered access to the system, it becomes unsafe to allow users to generate arbitrary code. We can't have another MySpace or NeoPets User Lookup because we can't allow users to write their own HTML, because that's *dangerous*.
