I think the important part is to grow the amount of people who send boosts and to grow the amount of podcasts that support it.
I think even a Pi handles enough of those payments.

that error was because if a hub is down or has issues while it gets many payment requests then it gets blocked for a while.
Typical LNURL load so far looked differently than boost requests. We also adjusted this.

I don’t think that’s true. The screenshot shared shows the application in the file explorer. it also says “Application”… why not start that and share a screenshot?
if downloaded from the web it is a zip file.
I really can’t help anymore if always strange things are done instead of what is recommended.

setup steps to open a channel, make backups and such are essential. otherwise nothing can work no matter in what circles you run (a car doesn’t drive without turning the key :))
once that was done, it worked.

her hub on the Pi is running. a channel is opened, money has been received.
that is all setup and free. and she can receive and send boostagrams (won’t work with coinos etc.)
don’t make the mistake again to throw this setup now away and break it again with some other things.
she might need to update the RSS feeds to use her new node.
but from the node and setup side all is fine.

The Pi is working fine, and that’s all setup. Darren opened the channel and payments can be sent and received.

if the windows app is there it is best to start running it.
I don’t know how it was setup and if our backup service was used and what still exists.
maybe it’s needed to run the recovery tool to recover the channel balances.

yes our logs show that in July a Alby Hub was started (not in the Alby cloud), a channel was opened and funds of that amount were transferred. what, where that Alby Hub we don’t know.
The backup requires the wallet backup key - that recovery phrase from July of that hub. (this is not the words of the Umbrel Lighning app, not from the extension, … but from that hub that was setup in July)

that probably shows the spendable balance. but that channel probably requires you to fill up the channel reserve first (in alby hub this is shown on the node page, I think also for LND nodes. best check all that in your lightning node app or alby hub on umbrel)

You're not required at all. We just provide a convenient service there maybe?
But you can use whatever you want or easily run a lnurl service that uses your NWC connection. Also on any domain.
That's why NWC! :) We also had published code for that.
but you have to manage things yourself and might need to learn to do that. all your choice.

"costs" meant to me you pay somebody else? and the money is gone.
if that has a different meaning then I misunderstood this.
If I want to be able to do bank transfer of $1000 then I need to have that money in the bank account. but it's my money in the bank account. it's the same with the channel.
I didn't know the word "cost" is used like that. sorry.
if you buy the incoming channel from the LSP one has to pay and the money is then the prover's money.

To simply get a channel with 1m capacity you don't need $1000USD. Such a channel cost much less than $20USD from a LSP.
If you want to put $1000USD in a channel to be able to send $1000USD then you need those, yes.
Maybe @npub1ma0…yclm should say what she wants. because to me in this conversation we talked about a node that should run at home with LND to send/receive boosts.

sure, but if you follow the conversation it's about setting up a raspberry pi, with umbrel, to run a full self-sovereign node. It also has to run with Bitcoin Core and LND.
Sounded like the PI was bought specifically for that.

You think 18+ months is fast? And you can still use any NWC wallet to simply migrate the funds.
Here we talk about setting up a self-sovereign lightning node on a home computer running Umbrel to be in full control and own everything.

people can't open a channel to a node that is not publicly accessible (Umbrel nodes on private networks are not publicly accessible)

and you don't want a subscription where a channel is included or can be post-paid.
I hope it is clear that you have to follow those setup steps and also need a channel if you want to be self-sovereign.
You can also do everything manual...

I want to hear comments when now people are forced to run raw LND for podcast apps... :)
Sadly there are many countries that companies and projects like ours don't serve. Strangely enough only he thinks he has some right to get a free service and work from others.
And we've been helping grow NWC to support any type of wallet with full interoperability. He could even implement some hive-NWC thing.
podcast apps can easily integrate NWC.

our model did not change and alby is the best solution for the podcasters. if some other system is better, just use that…
I don’t recommend starting with the most complex setup ever that does not make sense when one does not want to deal with it…
sounds like the quest here is to make it impossible (grok can’t setup LND on a pi in a place with powercuts…)

if you want LND in your pi:
1) is LND installed and running and synced?
normally you do that on the command line with lncli I guess. - how did you install LND?
2) if synced. then we go to alby hub.
how did you install Alby Hub on that raspberry pi?
(and again, I doubt you will be happy with a pi+lnd+albyhub at home setup.
maybe ask here if somebody has a “sub wallet” on their node for you.)

In the early days Alby ran a node for you, but now you have to own your own (just as you own the RSS feed for example)
We do our best to make it easy and usable.
If you don't like it you should use something else.

@npub1ma0…yclm it seems you have already played with the Alby Hub wallet some months ago. You still have to update your feed to use your node in the value tag.
To receive lightning payments your node has to be online. Thus it is not practical to use a desktop PC. You can use any server (cloud or home). Alby also offers hosting.
