Not sure where #Google asked for feedback about their developer verification program, but they surely didn't talk with #FLOSS devs, civil society, privacy organisations or their #Android users
#FDroid did since September, and interacted with folks in the Fediverse, forum, email and in person
They all voiced one opinion: "developer verification must be stopped"

We took for granted that at least our tech bubble would understand what the Google Decree means for Android, #FLOSS and freedom. Unfortunately we never saw the uproar we were expecting and people just shrugged it off taking for granted that "nothing changes".
@nprofile…gvrr great #FDroid post brought the issue into the light, waking up developers, users, media and (we hope) concerned authorities to the immense danger the newly proposed gatekeeping controls Google wants to add.

PSA: If you haven't updated #K9Mail to 12.0, please don't update it. It will crash on start if you use the unified inbox. The bug has been fixed in 12.1 and will be available in the next #FDroid update. #Thunderbird is not affected, kind reminder to consider switching as K-9 will go away in the future anyway.
Workaround for now: Make a widget for a single mailbox, then you can open K-9, you can change accounts and disable unified inbox.

Just in time, the #EUCommission has opened a public consultation on the revision of the #DMA effectiveness, with a deadline for Sept 24.
It's a great occasion to propose actual adjustments to the DMA text, like some to tackle the pre-install advantage, the systematic blocks of #Google Play Protect/Play Integrity, etc.
We believe we can achieve stronger impact if the Commission receives this kind of suggestions from many fronts, and not just from #FDroid.

If you feel that #FDroid downloads are slow just press ❎ to cancel the download then press Install/Update again so it picks up some other mirror.
There's no unified "F-Droid server" but several and a dozen or more mirrors.
Each time you try again it will use a different one. Hopefully the next one will have better bandwidth.
/PS: We've seen the reports, we will look into it.

Update #1: A user tracked this to having #PrivacyBadger or #uBlockOrigin or #Ghostery extensions installed.
Testing with disabled #uBO made Fennec load pages instantly, but let's be honest, we can't use the Internet without uBlock... 🙄

Yes, swipe it away and be amazed how on reopen pages won't load. 😢
We got tricks for you:
1️⃣ Instead of swiping the app you use the ❎ Close option. The button appears if you enable "Delete browsing data on quit" in Settings. eg. keep only "Cached images and Files" toggled ON
2️⃣ *No joke* when the page loads and drags on, you just lock the screen. 🤷 On device unlock the page will load. 🎇

The #EU #DMA compliance workshops exist to regulate gatekeepers powers, yet both #Apple and #Google treat them like "product launches" where non-engineers show slides and can never answer questions.
The Android play-field, instead of taking steps to respect the DMA, Google shrinks what Android even is. If Apple can own its closed iOS, Google figured they can privatize Android?
Maybe it being #FOSS for 17 years was just a glitch and now Android is out of the famous Google betas?

The last index update triggered a bug in the official F-Droid client, and Basic: you'll see a toast with "not nullable: icon" and the index won't update. We have reverted the related change and working on fixing the bug. The fix will take about two build cycles to be deployed, so about one week. You can get the latest index now by cleaning app data or reinstalling the client, but you'd have to setup your 3-rd party repos and their priorities.
