I remember the beginning, because last year we traveled to UK using Organic Maps, and returned using CoMaps.

Although I like seeing the posts here, having one central spot for everyone is fine too. I'd rather free up the GrapheneOS team for project work.

I hope that Google changes its mind, but as a shareholder company, they aren't a community. So I don't hold out too much hope.
But what I do hope is that AOSP eventually forks from Google, and other Open source mobile OS's start growing their market share away from Google. Its time for these options to go mainstream. We need F-Droid to be there for this.
Eventually we need an OpenAPK standard to build around that is not reliant on Google.

I see where you're heading. Yes, I mostly agree.
I certainly remember my learning curve when I moved away from Apple. Linux has come a long ways in just the past five years. It will continue to make it easier for new users. It just takes time.

There are ways to customize most of the Linux distros on your list to solve most of your complaints. It just takes chosing one and exploring the nuances, and getting involved in their community.
I use Fedora 43 with KDE and I thoroughly enjoy it. But it wasn't when I first tried it out.
With a bit of work, the repos can be setup as you want. Nubara is a Fedora based distro that will install the Nvidia drivers during OS install. Its strength is multimedia.

Nice review.
I think my post Apple PTSD kicks in anytime I want to simple click on an audio or image file, and some app immediately tries to import and manage it.
I like Decibels because it doesn't try to do that. It just plays an audio track I click on. Its like an audio viewer.
And I'm thankful for that.

Are you concerned that Google will further lock down the play store? Limiting AOSP to installing apps only from the various open source stores? This wouldn't affect me, but maybe a lot of other folks.
Google has been a reasonable partner, but I'd say recent events suggest they are now openly hostile to AOSP. They obviously have a plan that they are not sharing with the community.
It reminds me of when Apple stopped supporting 3rd party dealers and repair centres.

I like the recent Android update for Mastodon.
Nice work team!
Pros:
- Very fast preloading of media.
- Silky smooth scrolling.
- Nice line spacing for easier reading.
- Can now approve follower within the app.
Future request:
- Ability to turn off margin on left side (like in the old days).

Eventually, we are going to need "someone" other than Google, making mobile devices with cutting edge hardware, but open to installing any OS (like PC builders can).
I say this because eventually Google will lock down their Pixel Phones to prevent 3rd party OSs. The more popular GrapheneOS becomes, the more motivated Google will become to stop it.
So Fairphone needs to step it up, or perhaps Framework.

Apple continues this trend by slowly locking down MacOS to allow only signed software to be installed, and soon, only software from the Mac Store.
The first software that Apple uses to restrict their platform is Safari, which is arbitrarily tied to OS updates.
They do this incrementally and slowly, so that the user is gently directed towards new hardware.
In the other hand, I have a 2013 Mac Pro which still runs the most current version of Linux Mint very well.

Actually this reminds me of a question about OS updates.
Is it my imagination, but does GrapheneOS prevent charging until a reboot has occurred? Clever if so.
