"Philosophy professor Idris Robinson has sued Texas State University officials, asserting that the school violated his constitutional rights by ending his contract after he gave a talk on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict off-campus in another state where a fight broke out, the Guardian has learned.
Robinson’s complaint names the school’s president, Kelly Damphousse, three top college officials, and the school’s board of regents. It concerns one of the more drawn-out and unusual cases of a university punishing faculty for expressing views on Israel and Palestine, following a social media campaign against Robinson.
A tenure-track professor with four years of stellar performance reviews, according to the complaint, Robinson has been told he will no longer have a job in May, for a talk he gave two years earlier at a North Carolina anarchist book fair, in no way affiliated with the university.

"Leqaa Kordia has been jailed for nearly a year, despite a judge twice ordering her release, simply for protesting the genocide that took the lives of nearly 200 of her relatives. A 33-year-old Palestinian woman who has lived in the U.S. for nearly a decade, Leqaa was among hundreds arrested at a Columbia University protest in 2024 calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Charges were quickly dropped, but nearly a year later, the Department of Homeland Security targeted Leqaa, spying on her and interrogating her friends and family. Leqaa was detained in March 2025, and she’s been held in a Texas immigration facility ever since.
Leqaa’s plight has not received the attention it deserves, but we are working to change that. Defending Rights & Dissent has led a coalition of rights groups on a joint letter to DHS Director Kristi Noem calling for Leqaa Kordia’s immediate release."

"Donald Trump’s administration made a show out of arresting a Minneapolis man they called an “antifa domestic terrorist,” asserting that he was being charged with threatening ICE agents.
However, the administration appears to have arrested this self-described “antifa” member, Kyle Wagner, in large part for allegedly “cyberstalking” Jayden Scott, a well-known right-wing agitator. Scott has been in Minneapolis as a counter-protester boosting ICE, and publicly crowed about Renee Nicole Good’s murder in Minneapolis, screaming, “We executed one of you.” Scott also filmed himself standing in front of a reporter’s apartment door in an overt attempt at intimidation. The reporter successfully filed for a protective order against Scott, court records show.

"A major Somali shopping center called Karmel Mall closed for the day. Daycare centers were forced to close when their staff demanded the day off. Workers forced a major AT&T call center to close. The biggest nursing home in the Twin Cities metro area held mandatory all-staff meetings to threaten to fire employees who participated, but those scare tactics failed and they faced mass absenteeism. The combined population of Minneapolis and Saint Paul is less than 750,000; that Friday, we saw an estimated 100,000 people take the streets in sub-zero temperatures. It is safe to conclude that at least one out of every eight Twin Cities residents took part in the general strike.
The leaderless character of the resistance to ICE in Minnesota is precisely what has made it effective. The decentralized nature of the rapid response groups has made them durable and agile. The initiative of autonomous fighters in the neighborhoods has enabled people to rise in revolt every time they have shot or murdered our neighbors. The horizontality of our mutual aid networks makes them opaque to the feds while enabling them to feed, clothe, and care for vulnerable families. No official organization would ever dare to call for the countless acts of bravery by which individuals have collectively propelled this movement forward. The everyday anarchism of the Minneapolis revolution is its greatest strength.
To the extent that we allow top-down forces to take control of the movement, we will compromise its structural integrity and set ourselves up to lose. With so much on the line, we can’t afford to let that happen."

About a year ago, we announced a hiatus on this project. Due to an outpouring of support, we pushed ourselves to continue, and over the last year, we’re proud of the interviews and roundups we’ve been able to produce.
But as events in the United States have continued to escalate and conditions have grown more dire, it’s clear that IGD does not have the capacity to meet the moment as a hub for grassroots reporting and journalism. In the face of this reality, we feel its important to be clear about our inability to continue, in the hopes that more people can push themselves to build and grow media projects and platforms.
We should all have a sober and clear-eyed view of what is happening. The current administration is attempting to consolidate extreme authoritarian power. People are being silenced and working-class people are being attacked. A police state is being constructed. Conditions are worsening. Inflation and prices are exploding and the entire country feels like it is slipping into dictatorship and economic collapse, as most people struggle to put food on the table.
As corporations and the State consolidate news into fewer hands and the far-Right pushes to silence those who speak out, the need for dynamic and vibrant grassroots media that amplifies working-class voices and gives a platform to social movements is needed now more than ever. We hope those that enjoyed IGD over the years can help in constructing new infrastructure that can help meet our present moment.

"After federal agents deployed tear gas near a Chicago elementary school, community members have banded together to ensure children can come and go safely as the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown continues in the city.
Now, a new line of protection has surrounded students in the Chicago Public Schools system. Armed with whistles and know-your-rights pamphlets, these community volunteers call themselves “guardian angels.” Together, they secure the perimeters of elementary, middle and high schools across the city.
When the call for volunteers went out, 500 community members stepped up, filling more than 1,000 shifts at nearly 100 schools on Chicago’s northwest side. The goal is to ensure students can attend class for an education without fear of a confrontation with ICE.

"As night time set around the District, there was a report that the newly federalized police force had set up a checkpoint at the large intersection of New York Avenue and Bladensberg Road. Every car that passed that intersection was being stopped and its driver queried.
Police were seen in force at many metro train stop platforms throughout the day and were visible in high numbers particularly in the downtown area. Squads of police were recorded roving near the African American Museum and the Washington Monument. Groups of federalized police were also roving in downtown shopping areas.
FreeDCProject has published a series of bulletins on its website outlining what the residents of DC can do to ensure safe DC communities even though the Federal government is not acting in the city’s best interests.
