Hi frens, hope you’ve had a nice weekend ☺️. I tweaked my back somehow (possible culprits are a vet tech being too rough when weighing me or an overenthusiastic binky) so I have been sore over the past day but I’m mending up slowly with some extra care and attention. ❤️‍🩹 BunMum and BunDad have been total helicopter parents hovering over me the entire time 😏. Skye’s had the battle of (at risk of) sore hocks for quite a few years. She’s princess and the pea with all the padding we put under everything, but as she ages and prefers certain positions to rest it’s just an ongoing concern. We have a nice vitamin A/D ointment for a barrier and flamazine is now our go to for any signs of trouble.
I’ve seen Silver Honey on and wondered, not sure if it’s similar.. 🤔

Some vets can get quite upset if you go “rogue” and buy elsewhere, so sometimes it’s not an option. You might end up being fired as a patient!😖
Working formerly at Dr offices, I know refills also are part of the monitoring process and overall care of the patient, as frustrating as it is for patients. Monitoring for change, side effects, etc…(eg, for Sitara, she will need surgery if her pain continues too long..). In the end like you say, anything in the end for our beloved buns🥰

The business of exotic animal pharmacy is an expensive one. 😅 Today we picked up acetaminophen for Sitara’s ongoing care, as we have for months. $64.93 + tax for a bottle of cherry flavoured, life brand acetaminophen. Today for the first time they just provided the medication in the original box.
At Shopper’s Drug Mart the identical bottle is $9.79 + tax… 😅

(Last) Update 5: We back from chatting with Dr Darrin to discuss Skye’s ultrasound results. She’s doing well overall and no suspicious masses were noted. Minor findings included a benign liver cyst, minor crystallization in the bladder (sludge), very slight calcification of kidneys (to be followed), and a uterine stump from long ago spay from her mystery pre-rescue years.
We booked an appt next week wth Dr Kate to follow up on a few things. All in all big relief herea we are so happy for her!😊❤️

Skye Update 2: The vet’s called and BunMum whipped over and picked the little professor up. Heat lamp and fire and heat are on. ❤️
We will hear results later, within 48 hours. There were no urgent calls and no biopsies taken, which lead us to be hopeful no masses/potential cancer requiring further study. We don’t know about possible surgery or the rest of it, but we will take no biopsies as a win.
Skye found her kissing booth right away and knows she’s home. She’s very quiet and resting now.❤️

This morning our little Skye will be dropped off at our vet’s for an abdomen ultrasound for a possible mass near the bladder. If possible, please keep her in your thoughts today and wrap her in some extra love. ❤️
(We will let you know when she is discharged much later today.)

2/2 Update:
Skye’s had an eye duct flush and is going on eye antibiotics the next week.
Sitara’s going on antibiotics for a possible UTI the next week.
With both, how they respond (to this and some other minor adjustments to stuff) will determine next steps, if any are needed. 😊
There were some other housekeeping items too long to discuss here..
⚠️One item to note, critical care (papaya) has changed its formula as of October and the new version may cause some new GI side effects….

For those of you keeping up with our neighbour news, the follow up to our mattress henge is now loo henge. The fifth 🚽 is in the back. Our neighbours left when they went into foreclosure, these are the new ones. While we understand new neighbours have to gut the place, these have been here a week…

On that note, the discharge notes from my vet visit just arrived and Dr Kate says I am in “lovely body condition” and that I was “very brave for all the handling involved”! 😌❤️ I have come a long way in a year!

Something interesting was brought in from outside the other day. 😯 We of course have both been #Bunvestigating 🔍🐇🐇.
In the past BunMum would give us basil to try and we always turned our noses up at it- but we are finding it’s actually tasty directly on the plant..

Just an interesting side note about the crow who finally left for warmer southern weather yesterday. All summer, I washed out the birdbath daily. Each time, there was always at least one flower in the water. I never thought much of it, since the flowers grow right beside the bath.
Until this past week..
I happened to watch the crow step into the water, pluck a flower, give it a little swish, and then take a bath. The flowers I found every day in the birdbath were no coincidence or accident.

I had an adrenaline crash but am still wound tighter than a gnat’s arse. Having trouble... Maybe a good sleep tonight will reset.
I have received the ultrasound. Reading it through, I feel there is a direct line from her former rat food diet (high in fat) to the problematic inhomogenous fat mass she suffers from now that is dulling appetite. She’ll probably need surgery to get it out (5x5x3 cm) but she’s a warrior and we will support her every step of the way ❤️.
