Rode past a billboard claiming that Smart & Final has been around since 1871. Looked it up on Wikipedia only to discover that not only does one of its ancestors date back to 1871 but that Smart & Final was named after a Mr. Smart and a Mr. Final.
So I looked to see if there was a Mr. Safeway. Not the founder of the chain, at any rate. Mr. Skaggs felt he shouldn't name after himself a store that might outlive him.

I'm considering getting an app but I see it depends on Java. I'm reading the Java consumer version's license to say that it also installs third-party software on my computer, which I suspect may be adware. I see posts referring to such in the past but don't have first-hand knowledge.
¿Does anyone know if it's safe to install Java on a Mac these days, where safe means it only installs Java and is as safe from bugs as any software is these days?

Every once in a while in a search for non-English songs for my Infectious playlist on YouTube music I come across a song that's jaw-droppingly beautiful. Today that song was S.U.A.R by Criimson, which I got from a playlist of Timor-Leste songs. I have no idea what language it's in.

¿Has Squarespace been hacked? I tried visiting a couple theater websites that appear to be Squarespace sites and it served up a Philipino, Malaysian or Indonesian ecommerce site. I could be mistaken, so don't take this as a negative comment on Squarespace; I'm just trying to find out if that's the problem. Other random sites are working fine. I've turned off all squarespace JavaScript for now just in case, but am trying to see if anyone knows anything.

I've also had dinner with him (and some of his friends) once - at the Pork Store Cafe on 16th Street - and there he was quite pleasant. Afterwards, a few of us went to his place nearby on Guerrero and that's how I know where he lived.
He died from complications of AIDS.

A few years earlier, he had a performance where he reported having an allergy to milk which would cause him to vomit after drinking it. He then proceeded to take a syringe and draw blood from his arm, inject it into a milk carton, and drink the contents. And I thought (as I imagine he intended) "¡Oh no, he's going to throw up!". But he didn't.

I remember going to a performance of his where he was trussed up and dragged out onto the stage and proceeded to open a package by licking it with his tongue. He went layer after layer until he finally reached a take-out carton of white rice which he then started to eat, whereupon he was dragged offstage. End of performance.
