I am just reading that Sydney Mardi Gras CEO Jesse Matheson has expelled Pride in Protest from the parade.
The issue stems from the group criticising another group for not being anti-genocide. They Pride in Protest claims the other group is actually pro-genocide.
This apparently all popped off late yesterday.

Was planning on updating this yesterday, but just coming back to this now. I went twice yesterday, and I wasn't disappointed. I had tried both the sakura matcha and the matcha float. Matcha is prepared after you order, so when they are busy, there can be a bit of a wait, however it also means that the matcha here is probably one of the best in Canberra.

I mean, same as the ACT, but our officers are on loan basically from the AFP under the branding of ACT Policing.
And I strongly say the ACT isn't fantastic either. We had a recent incident of racial profiling on a bus during a major operation in Canberra's south (Woden). As you can imagine, our local indigenous community were not happy about it. There was a big gathering regarding it outside the legislative assembly over it.
I would note change in government wasn't helpful for NT.

honesty, and I know there is a whole debate about police investigating police, but the NT should really always get another state to investigate their deaths in custody and allegations of mistreatment. I don't think it can be disputed that the NT Police are way past showing they can't be trusted. It would have to be one of the least trusted and respected police organisations in Australia. And it is not like there is another good state, but none of them are as bad as the NT.

It is probably clear, I have been to many protests, and it is not because I have nothing better to do. It is because I believed in the cause.
Sometimes it was SSM (obviosly very important to me), sometimes it was for indigenious Australians, somtimes it was for Gaza. But I went because of the cause.
I am time poor, and tbh, I would rather no attend protests. It takes up a lot of my time I would rather spend on other things.

I also take issue with how this cartoon discounts protestors as nothing more than someone who needs something to do.
The people who turn up to protests, such as those depicted in the cartoon via the posters, are doing so for the cause. Palestine is heavily represented in the cartoon, and I think protestors are turning up because of the people being killed by the IDF, and the destruction of Gaza. Not because they had nothing better to do.

Personally, this comes across to me as the cartoonist feeling superior, and viewing protestors as less than, dirty, stupid and so on.
I personally find this cartoon quite controversial. I would have concern that this is the kind of cartoon that subscribers are finding in their copy of The Australian.
If gives the impression that this is what protestors are really like.
I know they are not, and I know even Australian journalist have attended protests.

For me, it seems like the cartoonist views protestors as less than. That protestors are living in difty conditions, and that the only focus in life is being a protestor, and that they are living poor life styles. Reflected by the dirt/grime reflefcted in the room, quality of furniture, the bong with the beer bottle sitting on what appears to be a milk crate.
The cartoonist gives the impression, that protestors are "dirty poor people".

I wanted to share this cartoon by a Newscorp cartoonist. Not because I agree with what it is portraying, but because I think it is a real example of how some people view protestors in Australia (and obviously how this cartoonist views them).
There are a couple of things that really stand out to me. I am interested to hear what others think of it.

Hmmmm, when the ABC reports that the protests in Canberra are "significantly smaller" than the protests in Brisbane and other cities, it only further builds further distrust in the ABC.
It is worth noting that the protest in Canberra has been growing in numbers. This should be the focus of the reporting. It being smaller than other cities is not important.

Just seen a BBC report on ABC News regarding the situation in Gaza. It features a "vantage point" in Israel which looks out to the war. It seemed to me going from the reporting, that it is being used for entertainment. They installed vending machines, and the BBC captured in their footage Israelis taking photos, smiling.

agreed. A lot of the time I was hearing parents talk about safety as a reason. So, I guess every opportunity we get at increasing that sense of safety could be increasing the likelihood of kids walking to school.

The fact is, we can improve the safety for our kids just by simply moving the limit by 10 on streets. Our kids deserve to feel safe around our schools, and they deserve the opportunity to walk to school.
Come on Canberra. Dropping from 40 to 30 is nothing in terms of travel time and it would be so easy for us to do. This is low hanging fruit.

I've discovered today on my journey to Richardson, that my #mywayplus card was overdrawn again when I was trying to tap off, which was failing. This is the second time this has happened to me now, where it has allowed me to tap on but not off due to a funds issue.
There is no way to tell this without checking online or via a ticket machine. Validators don't tell you that there are no or negative funds, or that your account is temporarily blocked.

Had a great chat with Laura and the team at Richardson Shops today about the possibilities for the area. So good to see such a turn out today. Also, great that the property owner come out to speak to locals about the issue.
Looking forward to seeing Laura bringing this issue up in the assembly in the next few weeks.

I hate that. The sitting on bags thing is also something I do. I will just plunk my ass down. Have gotten close to sitting on people's feet here in Canberra. Some people have very poor transit etiquette.

The NCCC said to the ABC in relation to the missing middle housing plan that "we are still a car-based society whether we like it or not."
This is only the case because of the lack of drive and investment in alternative modes. If we really want to change how we move, we have to give Canberrans a reason why. So far, only S1 of LR has done that.

First day out. It was a little stressful for me, I felt a bit scared. But I did want to get out of the apartment. Bought slip on shoes, had some lunch and some bubble tea.

they are super busy and having higher priority ones coming in like motor bike accidents.
Yea, daily fasting from midnight. But they came in pretty early today, so I got some breakfast this morning.
