Well written article! I laughed aloud a couple of times (the review of his last album and Samantha Eggers' comment after hearing his music along with her decision not to have tea with him). It's a very accurate article as well. I love the music of The Smiths but was never a fan of Morrissey's solo work. The title of this article says it all.

Just read some articles about sulfur being an ancient solution for repelling ticks. People use it to repel harvest mites (aka chiggers), too. I like the idea of trying something more natural. People ingest it with molasses or honey to keep ticks from biting them, too. LOL Not sure about that one. @npub1xfv…cqs4

When you live surrounded by woods and marauding deer, there is no tick repellent that truly works. The ticks awaken throughout the winter the moment temperatures rise above freezing. By spring they are battle ready and hungry. They jump at life. They suck at life, literally. Chemical sprays don't fool them for long. Natural remedies do little. How can we stop them? Can we make them fear us somehow? Can we make them loathe our company? My personal war on ticks has gone on for many years. Maybe one day I can outsmart this symbolic enemy. Until that day, I remain vigilant and without mercy.

One of the first words that I remember looking up in a dictionary for myself was the word "dais" while I was reading Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time". I would have been about 9 years old or a little younger when I read it. But I distinctly recall the way she used the word several times which made me look it up as I needed to confirm what I thought it meant in context. Seems strange to recall that so distinctly. 🙂

Sometimes when I read an article that mentions off-hand some product I've never heard of, I stop and wonder if the entire reason for the article is to get people to check out that product. If that is the real reason, the article is not content but just an advertisement. It's becoming more difficult to tell the difference. This is why I do my best never to say what brand of anything I use or what brand of item I've just purchased.

Suggestion
What if instead of dubbing things "good" or "bad", you explain what is harmful or beneficial about an event or activity and to whom it is harmful or beneficial. Generally throwing things into categories of "good or bad" is low quality moralizing and unhelpful.
I've been working on removing "good" and "bad" from my mental responses to events and it has expanded the way I think about the world. It has also made me less emotionally reactive to everything I hear and read about so that I am able to process the significance of an event instead of going straight to 11 on the Woe Scale.

Did you have a favorite tree when you were a kid? For a time my family lived in Pennsylvania, and there was a very large crab apple tree behind the house. It was that perfect sort of tree that had a wide, nearly horizontal branch that you could climb up to and lie down on very comfortably. I would sit in that tree and daydream, problem solve, come up with ideas. When the apples were ripe, I'd nibble them a bit. Now, it reminds me of Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree." 💚 🍏

It used to be recommended that when you reply to someone, it would be polite to set the post privacy level to "Quiet Public" (formerly 'unlisted') so the Live Feeds aren't all clogged with Public posts that are actually replies. I've become accustomed to doing that automatically. But it seems like most people are replying set to Public and the Live Feeds are not showing those posts. Is there any purpose now to the Quiet public privacy setting?
Feditips currently says: Unlisted / Quiet Public – Anyone can see it, but it won’t appear in the trending posts list or the Local or Federated timelines, it won’t show up in search results and it won’t show up in other people’s hashtag follows. Unlisted can be useful for replying in threads, so that you’re not filling search results etc unnecessarily. Normally indicated by a crescent moon 🌙
