OK the job is Research Officer (so a step up from Research Assistant, which is what I normally do) back at Swansea University. I’ll be researching the impact of the cost of living crisis on families who formula feed their babies. First time I’ve drawn on my past as an antenatal teacher in decades! I start in early October after our holiday in Rhodes. Apparently they are “very excited” to have me on board. I’m thrilled!

Oof just submitted a long application for a job I really, really want but is a total long shot. I’ve been lucky with long shots sometimes in the past, so why not? On paper I’m a pretty unconventional candidate, but I have 25 years of transferable knowledge and experience 🤞🏻

As a former probation officer and criminology researcher, I can confidently say that the >£30,000 per year spent on a person’s incarceration could be better spent on a dedicated case worker to help disadvantaged families with parenting, education access, food insecurity, addiction issues, access to healthcare, etc. it would hugely reduce the workload of social services and the NHS too.

My bestie and her partner have decided that they are very anxious about us leaving Cinnamon with a stranger when we go on holiday. Yes, our pet. They’re making a big song and dance about it and the result is that I am now extremely anxious. There’s no need for this drama.
This is why I don’t always tell her the details when I’m mentally unwell, so makes a big deal of it, wants to complain about my care, tries to insist on coming along to my appointments, etc. I love her to bits but she’s wearing me out 😿

Well. I’ve just emailed my supervisors explaining that I have requested a permanent withdrawal from my PhD programme. I’m sad about it but I don’t feel I have any choice, as thinking about going back was causing suicidal thoughts. Staying alive is more important than getting a PhD. I’m deeply disappointed though that bipolar has fucked me over yet again, so I’m having a little cry.

One of the worst weeks of my life was when a psychiatrist told me to suddenly stop venlafaxine (Effexor). The withdrawal was brutal, I was off work sick for a week.
