Only of interest for #GW2 players: today I got my first set of Obsidian Armor (light). Yay!
I’m not doing great on my ”perhaps I should craft some legendary trinkets…?” (of which I still have zero) as I allowed myself to get sidetracked with Eternity, Klobjarne Geirr and now armor. NOW maybe I should get them trinkets…ooohh…Bifrost looks shiny! 😆

Wouldn't it, today, still have a dependency to BlueSky? Or have I misunderstood how it (AT) works?

So now the label of "out-of-control, Radical Left" is applied to companies simply for stating they do NOT wish their products to be used for killing people without human control/intervention, or if they do not wish their products to be used for mass surveillance of innocent civilian public.
It used to be applied to companies/people when they said "shouldn't we have good healthcare?" or "shouldn't we do a sanity check of people before selling them guns?" and similar things, but the definition has clearly shifted now.

Correct again, if you ARE Google. If everyone start using open-source alternatives it will most likely not contribute to Googles economic growth.
It quite likely will contribute to economic growth for a bunch of smaller/new companies. It will also open the playing field for software development which still being possible for anyone to verify/test/check/view the source code to ensure there are no flaws in there, or algorithms for tracking people based on advertising goals.
They are kind of correct too in that it will probably cause a _temporary_ set-back in economic growth for all those companies that live under the illusion of "there should always be growth and we will do anything to make that happen", but I consider that a good thing. When that speed bump has been passed there will be an opportunity to do a controlled/reasonable acceleration.
Given that Google has removed the "Don't be evil" from their Mission Statement, for unknown reason, I think it is wise, for many different reasons, to cut down on the dependence on Google (and Microsoft, Facebook etc), and to look at alternatives. Ideally open-source ones that can be scrutinized by anyone who wishes to do so.

I don't normally complain on songs, but instead usually keep it to myself if I dislike something. Some songs though, are completely baffling to me what people with functioning ears possibly can hear in them that make them go "Yeah! That is MY tune!" when I go "He clearly can't sing, they obviously can't play their instruments, it sounds like they are desperately trying to play the same thing on all the instruments, repeatedly (to no f**king end), but missing so it is all off-beat."

Heh. I've been playing Guild Wars 2 since it was released (2012...and Guild Wars "1" before that, since 2005 or something) but I have never been bothered with making legendary gear, as it simply isn't needed. Anyone can rock up to any fight with whatever gear you've acquired by just playing, and it's be (just about) as good as legendary gear. So I haven't really felt the need to grind for them myself. Until now.
I figured last month I should perhaps look in to it anyways. There is a convenience factor with Legendary gear and...well, something to aim for. So I looked at my options, realising I had quite a few bits and bobs in my storage. I was pretty much halfway to the Legendary greatswords Sunrise and Dusk. I got Dusk within that week, so have been sorting out the final bits for Sunrise when I realised if I have them both I can actually create Eternity, which is a combination of both Sunrise & Dusk (and thus twice as valuable).
Said and done. I now have Eternity. What should I go for next? I am thinking I should probably aim for armor. Or perhaps the trinkets...? I will probably sell Eternity anyways, I actually don't think it looks all that good, and I don't really use Greatswords on any of my 9 characters...

Vivaldi browsers latest update includes tiling of tabs in the same window. Unlike other browser makers they keep adding actual usability features **instead** of making every AI, which I (as a multi-device) user of Vivaldi appreciates.
That they also are active in the Fediverse is another bonus.

As I quite regularly use 7 email addresses, in mail clients/views that consolidates many of them it needed to be done, to regain clarity of what I actually need to act on, and to allow me to sort them out as we go.

Still though, better than having a Mac and trying to use Razer equipment. Razer silently quit supporting Macs, I learnt the hard way, and when I contacted their (Razer) support about it, thinking something was wrong they basically said "_yeah, we stopped that_". I said: "_uuhh...right...but there was Mac support for both my mouse and keyboard when I bought them...? You don't think you have any responsibility to phase them out over time?_" and they basically said "_No. Tough luck for you._" and that was it.
So. No more Razer products for me, regardless of platform.
With that said, I properly hate how my Logitech mouse just stops working (on Win that is) and then, after 30 sec or so, I get a "_yeah, we're updating your drivers...hold on_" which always, without fault, leads to a "_Yep. Done. Now connect your gear again_" (which was never disconnected) at which point I am now happy I still can move my cursor around with a touchpad and click save on all the things that need it before I am forced to reboot, as it, for some reason will **not** pick up my mouse again without a reboot.
The joys of computing eh? 😆

Det jag tycker är mest synd är att många Mastodon användare inte vet om att de redan idag pratar med folk som använder andra tjänster än just Mastodon.
Detta leder till att de inte vill prova något annat då de ofta fått för sig att de "inte vill flytta igen" eller att "jag gillar ju det nätverk jag byggt upp på Mastodon" utan att inse att det nätverket flyttar med automatiskt ifall de provar någon annan Fediverse micro-blogging tjänst, som kanske har funktionalitet som just precis Mastodon saknar.
Nästan alla andra Fediversetjänster visar, via en liten ikon, vilken tjänst den man pratar med använder, så för alla icke-Mastodon-användare i Fediverse är vi vana att se alla möjliga varianter på de vi pratar med, i samma tråd som varandra. Bara Mastodonanvändarna är omedvetna om detta.

I'm really happy to see that there's such an influx of new players to Guild Wars 2. Amazingly fun.
Pretty strong going for an MMO (or CMO...C for collaborative) that was released 13+ years ago, but which has been updated regularly over the years, making most of the other MMO's appear like they are standing still, or degrading over time.

I read it when it was published, but I did re-read it again now just to see what point I was missing. I can't find it.
Just to be crystal clear: I do not mind people being able to limit comments on their posts. I just don't see it as the best way towards "social" OR (actual) security.
When I am suggesting being able to limit, or direct, who you post to, with pretty granular group control, on a post-by-post basis, that isn't said as a "_so don't put in moderation tools or other functionality_".
After that I have been having a philosophical discussion on if "_stopping everyone else_" or "_enabling me and also everyone else more control_" is the best/kindest route forward, and which would be the best mind-set for building a friendly social media community.

Ah. And here-in lies the fundamental difference for me compared to what feels like most of the Fediverse:
I do not wish to (have to) "block things I don't like". Too many things in the Fediverse security discussions seem to be about limiting others, but never oneself.
For me this is about fostering, and creating, an environment that invites discussions between interested and/or like-minded, and how to **enable** that. For me this is isn't about blocking, reporting or otherwise hinder anyone else.
I say that with the full understanding that I will not, and can not, reach "everyone" and force what I have to say (which isn't that much these days) to their ears, without letting them reply or give their view/opinion about it.
My freedom will then be to publish to "everyone" (and risk that "anyone" or even "everyone" replies) OR to publish to those I think are interested, or at least don't dislike my posts (then they can unfollow me).
But knowing that if I post something to a select group of my followers in my book means I can feel confident in expressing myself without rubbing (too) many the wrong way. I see _that_ as safety, which then makes me the odd-one-out here I guess.
So my fundamental difference is I wish to enable things, where most other wish to disable others options. Different routes to the same goal perhaps. I know that as it makes sense to me it is pretty certain to never happen because...[gestures vaguely towards the current state of the world in general]. 😆

I hear you. But still, you are kind of enforcing the point I'm trying to make (but which I have yet to formulate in an elegant/clear way).
I think, for me, "social media" is more than just "media", which I would consider a blog, or even a news web site, to be. Like you I don't have comments enabled on any of my (too many) sites, where I can broadcast to my hearts content.
On Social Media though I think we are losing the "social" part if we normalize broadcasting but do not allow comments. Actually I think it is worse, and this is an area where Fediverse (which I love for the most part) too often try to instill the _feeling_ of safety, but without actually being, or creating, any more _actual_ safety (i.e. "blocking" mostly is "move out of sight, for me").
Anyways, interesting topics, and I would say we (in the Fediverse) has lots of areas for improvement challenges.

Just thinking out loud here without overly much afterthought and still stuffed on xmas/holiday food but: wouldn't it be more in the spirit of things in the Fediverse to be able to control who can READ your posts? I'm talking about plonking your followers in to groups (of your liking..."friends", "roleplayers", "metalheads", "idiots" etc). Much like Google+ did and also to a degree what Facebook does (or allows you to do...I don't think many people are aware of it) and, by all means, Friendica does. Then you can select who you post what to.
But if there was kind of granular control over who could read your posts, it would also be assumed everyone who can read it can reply to it.
Absolutely not easier to do, I'd say about as impossible to do even, but if we're dreaming...but it would be more fair and it would, IMHO, make sense.
If we only control who can reply to otherwise public posts we could end up getting people broadcasting (as opposed to discussing), no?
As I say, I haven't formulated this in a while in my head even as I've kept out of Fediverse/ActivityPub functionality discussions these last few years, but it kind of make more sense in my head.
Anyways, just a thought as I did a drive-by reading of that github pitch.

Right. One thing led to another, and I have now wiped my iMac 2013, that was running Omarchy, no less than 6 times over the last 4 days. To make a bumpy ride/story a lot shorter, I am now using a (to me) brand spanking new distro called Garuda, which seems really nice.
I seem to have gotten stuck on the Arch way of life, I tried a few other options over the last couple of days, but really missed both performance and Pacman/AUR so here I am.
Now for finding the Broadcom drivers for the wifi card in this old machine. :)

Also, to confuse matters somewhat, it **used** to be possible to do exactly what you said, so you might even find references to it online.
However, DeltaChat has gone all-in on ChatMail (the underlying protocol/framework) of late it means it **only** (100%) does encrypted messages (or, I guess, technically "emails"). This can (and will) generate a mess in your inbox/notifications unless you do some ninja on both those things.
When I say "only ChatMail" I at first missed the "old" functionality of being able to use my old/regular email addresses (as I was around when that worked too), but in my personal opinion we have gained so much more, both in security and functionality, in DeltaChat now that I don't mind separating my chatting/messaging from my emailing.

I use it together with a group of friends. It started off as a test to see how it compared to groups in Signal, but we’ve stayed in DeltaChat as we’ve found it great.
Now for getting more people to use it.

Exciting week ahead.
The next two days, Tue/Wed, I'll be on a work conference with the new job that I haven't started just yet (next Monday).
Then on Thursday I'm picking up my new car and after that it is Friday/Weekend which I guess I'll be spending driving around in the new car, working everything out.
Then, come Monday, my new job actually starts. Yay!

I seriously do not understand why not all Fediverse services look at what/how Akkoma does and then just rips the idea and does the same. That is partially the _point_ of open-source.

mastodon.social has a spammer problem. I have increased my blocks 300% today, all were from mastodon.social.
Perhaps they've always had it and I just didn't see them (due to using Akkoma at the time, which has great spam protection) but now when I'm on other services (Sharkey) it is glaringly obvious the problem is mastodon.social.

De är dessutom smarta. Smartare än de får credit för i vilket fall. En dag när jag kom hem från jobbet så satt hon mitt i hallen och bara väntade på att jag skulle öppna dörren, hon hade sett mig komma från fönstret. I vanliga fall brukar hon "hälsa" på mig fast ligga kvar, men just denna dag satt hon alltså i hallen, inte för att springa ut (hon är innekatt), men för att hon ville något.
När jag tagit av mig skor/jacka började hon gå mot altandörren, men kollade bakåt för att säkerställa att jag följde med. Sedan satte hon sig och tittade ömsom på mig, ömsom ut på altanbordet utanför. På den stod det en påse som jag inte kände igen. Kollade kameran och såg att en bekant varit över till oss, ringt på, ingen var hemma så hon hade gått runt huset och lämnat en påse svamp på altanbordet.
Selma (katten alltså) ville berätta detta så jag inte missade det, men hon hade ju lite svårt med orden...så hon fick ju göra det närmaste hon kunde till att peka. När hon såg att jag hade sett påsen så kunde hon chilla igen och vi kunde göra våran vanliga "nu är jag hemma gosning". Jättekul. 😄

Våran Selma är också pratsam, när hon vill något. Inte skriande på något sätt, bara lugnt och sansat "prat". Vi har lärt oss vad hon ser när hon tittar ut genom fönstret också. "Fåglar", "andra katter", "hundar" och "främlingar" har helt olika ljud, som hon ligger i fönstret och gör för sig själv mer än att påkalla uppmärksamhet. 😆

They have an explainer on "how" or "why" it is free. Basically Serif was bought by Canva. Canva, which is subscription based, has a turnover of $3B USD, and they are basically betting on that if they make it easy to use Canva, via compatible software, that software might as well be free.
This means you can (optionally) sign up for Canva Pro (if you'd like to use AI functionality in Affinity)...but it also means if you don't care much about AI stuff you can just keep using the software without it. For free.
A bold bet, but hey...it is free for you and me...
