Kate works surprisingly well as a sublime replacement for me on Windows and Linux. the UI out of the box feels crowded but can be cleaned up. file tree, minimap, integrated terminal, symbol outline all work well. since it is based on a proper toolkit, mouse support is quite good, drag-dropping selections, right click and jump etc. all work.

it is already good enough to implement a login manager, a desktop panel/bar and probably a notification system (xnotify is quite nice too)... perhaps it can become the libXt for xcb.

interesting that you see it as an "owned resource". I see it as a "setting" that is incidentally passed as a resource :)
I agree it is best to check the DPI directly. NetBSD's default ctwm configuration [0, 1] does that to adjust (bitmap) font sizes.

It would be useful to parse Xft.dpi and adjust the font size accordingly and get some sort of scaling. It is a recommended way for hidpi especially when using window managers (where, I think #Xmoji would find max usage).

`make clean` errors out with:
GNUmakefile:23: *** Cannot build with bundled freetype. Stop.
make[1]: *** [zimk/zimk.mk:81: sub_FREETYPE_clean] Error 2
make: *** [zimk/lib/platform.mk:25: clean] Error 2
technically, it is not an error and can potentially stop package managers during a bulk build.

@npub16w4…x0qk @npub1eq3…eeqf #Xmoji is quite nice. Refreshing to see something build so quickly and with very little dependencies these days. More than the emoji picker, I like the little toolkit inside. Is it DPI aware? the widgets appeared smallish. Maybe I didn't have the `Xft.dpi` resource set. A minor nit: `make clean` expects ftbuild/ to be populated.
