Oh, and Trump basically announcing the end of democracy if he's elected (it'll be fixed so you won't have to vote for him anymore) has vanished from the homepage of the NY Times. It's currently buried deep on a "live election updates" page, but you'd have to be a dedicated news follower to find it.
As expected, they're continuing with the normalization of fascism.

My mum (bless her!) used to say, "I'm not racist, but I don't want a black family to move in next door; it'll bring down the property values."
That's not very different from all the people who say "I'd vote for Kamala Harris, but there's too much racism for her to get elected."
People "outsource" their racism to others.
If you're not actively supporting people from ethnic minorities, rather than creating problems for them, you make yourself part of a racist system.

To the editorial boards of the Washington Post and the New York Times, the presidential election is a kind of Hunger Games. It's a spectacle to be milked for its entertainment value. If it's not entertaining enough for them, they'll create some new narrative that makes things more dramatic.
The fact that this political context has profound effects on people's lives doesn't matter to them. They want to be in control of the narrative, creating drama.

In an article about Biden dropping out of the race, Peter Baker says of Biden's letter, "It was not immediately clear whether he wrote the letter himself or had help."
Fucking hell! When have they ever asked that question of any other politician, when *all* politicians rely on the help of speech writers and aides.
It's just a completely unnecessary dig, and symptomatic of the toxicity at that newspaper.
