In anticipation of our upcoming blog posts, we've refreshed our blog! It's now simpler, smoother, smaller, and JavaScript-free.
We'll be revising it gradually, so let us know what you think of the new design! Accessibility is especially important to us.

Those should be fixed now! There are a few bugs we have fixed in our code now, but it'll take a little while before we can push the fixes out.

We've been stretching the donations we've received as much as we can. Our stable donations increased significantly last year, though they're still significantly below what we need to operate in the long term. We have enough to continue development well into next year at the current rate, and we're working on making Accrescent more sustainable so that we don't need to rely purely on donations.
We want to make people's support count!

2026-08-24 19:48:32 UTC

Progress update! We've been hard at work tackling Accrescent's most pressing development needs, and now we want to share what we've been working on.
We'll post blog posts in the next few weeks detailing our security, stability, and feature progress along with what's next!
We know it's been a long time since our last progress update, so to keep you more in the loop, we're switching to more frequent, smaller posts from now on.
We're getting ever closer to opening up app submissions to everyone. Thank you all for your support and patience!

Yes, we appreciate the feedback and we agree. We plan on posting an update soon and hope to maintain more frequent posts going forward.

As stated in our earlier post, developers manage updates for their own apps, so if an app hasn't been updated in Accrescent, it's likely because they haven't submitted the update. Sometimes it means the update is waiting on our review, though this is less common.

2026-06-19 17:54:17 UTC

Yes! We've been hard at work readying Accrescent for broader adoption by reworking our developer console to make it run more stably, fix bugs, tighten security, improve the UI, simplify development (so we can develop faster and so it's easier to contribute), and prepare for more feature additions.
We've written tens of thousands of lines of code and hundreds of tests (most not public yet) to be merged which will help us accomplish these goals, and we're still working on more.
While we can't promise any specific timeline, we're hoping to open up developer registration more broadly later this year so anyone can sign up and submit their apps to Accrescent.
Happy to answer any more questions!

RiMusic and Clipious should be delisted (not visible to new users) once we implement support for that in our servers.
We don't manage the updates to apps in Accrescent, their developers do, so if the app hasn't been updated, it's because they haven't uploaded a new version (or in some cases, because we haven't reviewed the update yet). But as far as we know, both Transcribro and NextPush are actively maintained.

Hi! We are still very much in active development and hope to post an update soon. We have GitHub activity, so be sure you're looking at all of our repositories, not just the one for the Accrescent app. For example, we've made extensive changes to Parcelo and changes to the console API, our API gRPC gateway, and console web app (plus a code generator project which is currently private but will be open sourced soon).

Unfortunately we are not accepting new apps at the moment. We hope to open up submissions later this year though!

There hasn't been much news, no. We've gotten a response from Google indicating that they're aware of the problems we have and the solutions we need, but nothing specific.
The project is still in very active development! Most work recently has been on the Accrescent server at https://github.com/accrescent/parcelo/tree/massive-overhaul. You can see a lot of changes there. They're just not on the main branch.

Accrescent has been developed mostly in unpaid developers' free time for most of its existence, so it hasn't had the time to mature enough for us to be comfortable allowing a large number of apps to be submitted. We don't want app developers to encounter too many issues. We artificially limit submissions right now for this reason, though developers frequently request submission access.
We recently received enough funding to sponsor a full-time developer though and have been making more extensive development progress in the last few months as a result.

Hi! Was Cake Wallet installed through Accrescent, or another app store? That information would help us figure out the cause.

2025-11-26 18:15:32 UTC

Google has recently stated on the Android developers blog that they are working on allowing "experienced users" to install unregistered apps. But we plan to allow unregistered apps to be published regardless of whether that feature applies to Accrescent. If it doesn't, then yes, unregistered apps wouldn't be installable on certified Android devices.

If you've wondered how Android developer verification affects Accrescent, today we have a new blog post explaining briefly what it is, how it impacts us, and how we're responding.

If put into place, Android developer verification would affect us. Accrescent is used on stock Android and we officially support both stock Android and AOSP, and we plan to continue that even if Android developer verification is implemented.
We have an upcoming blog post which will address the situation in more detail.

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@accrescent/115260653400068715
The servers were deployed a few weeks ago. However, our next app update had unexpected bugs, delaying its release.
As a result, updates for all apps have been delayed since. We apologize for the delay and hope to resolve it by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience!

Development on our roadmap is progressing smoothly. Our next app and server releases are undergoing final testing before deployment.
We hope to make an announcement soon about what Android's recently announced developer verification requirements mean for Accrescent. Stay tuned!

Since we published our blog post on the future of Accrescent, donations have increased dramatically.
According to the rates in that post, we should now be able to fund full-time development through at least May 2026!
Thank you to our community for your monumental support!
Because of you, we can dedicate ourselves fully to our mission of building a modern Android app store focused on security, privacy, and usability.

We'll look into it! We only supported GitHub Sponsors at first because it doesn't have any transaction fees (so your full donation goes to us) and to simplify keeping track of donations for us, but since other options have been requested, we'll consider them.

2025-08-04 16:50:17 UTC

Accrescent depends completely on donations to run. Today we share a significant update in our new blog post on the future of Accrescent: https://blog.accrescent.app/posts/the-future-of-accrescent/.

We just haven't announced it yet since it wasn't a priority as 0.25.1 has no changes from 0.25.0 besides the version. We pushed it out to test our update infrastructure. We plan to make a corresponding GitHub release within the next few days.

It would be complex to allow adding pinned certificates since that wouldn't be using the standard Android network security configuration. But the TLS certificate pinning concern is currently obsolete since Accrescent doesn't have TLS certificate pinning since version 0.19.0.
Accrescent could have a management feature like that. However, that doesn't resolve some of the other issues with third-party repositories not listed on the website. For example, unattended updates aren't guaranteed if the store doesn't enforce a sufficiently high minimum target SDK. It's also not Accrescent's goal to be a generic app installer for any source, but instead an independent app store.
That section of the website is outdated and should be updated to reflect the above.

2025-03-06 03:34:27 UTC

- reply

We appreciate you mentioning this. Unfortunately, we don't currently have the capacity to develop and maintain official documentation for how to run Accrescent independently. It would also be very difficult for a third party to keep up with running Accrescent right now since the backend is constantly changing and often requires manual intervention to update which requires special knowledge of how Accrescent works.
We may consider supporting documentation once Accrescent is more stable.

2025-03-06 03:23:45 UTC

We do intend to add support for linking websites and/or source code repositories for relevant apps (and require ownership verification of them), so we hope these will help users choose which apps to trust as legitimate once they're implemented. But we recognize that's not a complete solution.

2025-03-06 03:21:07 UTC

- reply

Hi! This is a work-in-progress issue as we're not certain how to handle it fully. The tracking issue is here: https://github.com/accrescent/meta/issues/36.
Domain verification is required to ensure that the developer uploading an app with a given ID controls the associated domain. Beyond this, we don't have a concrete policy except that obvious impersonation or intellectual property infringement will not be tolerated. How exactly to detect these isn't yet decided.

We already have plans to expand app descriptions, provide download size information, and utilize detailed compatibility specifiers including minimum SDK specifications pending some upcoming server changes. It's not yet clear whether or how to incorporate permission lists, license info, or website links (though we do at least plan to distinguish open source apps).
