ICE isn’t a Police force. Policemen don’t wear face masks. ICE is a right-wing goon squad carefully deployed to destabilize civic society. Abolish away. But one of my neighbors is a county sheriff who regularly risks his life to make this county a better place to live and raise a family. He wears no mask because his is an honorable profession. There’s a difference.

the opposite of Trump‘s immigration policy is not “no immigration policy”. It’s sane immigration reform, (which is what he was sabotaging during Biden term)

no argument there, but the judgement of the electorate was that he had done too little to stem the swollen tide. I certainly didn’t agree, but then I’m an NYTimes subscriber and they certainly weren’t talking much about it and I don’t live in a place that was adversely affected by the increased flow of immigration during the Biden years.

Wise people don't advocate #AbolishThePolice and sadly, Joe Biden proved that a passive hands-off approach to immigration only serves to multiply political foes faster than political friends. This uncontroversial opinion of mine has people calling me a Nazi and a fascist collaborator today, while activists can fling whatever abuse they wish, their success will be limited so long as they persist in the delusion that America will ever abolish its police

I can’t speak to their parentage, but I’ve known some good cops. As for your observation on veterans, though I’ve known plenty more good soldiers, my own particulars might tend to confirm your thesis ;-) When I enlisted, I thought I was joining the “good guys” to fight the “good fights” against the "Hitlers" of the world. I wasn’t the best student of American history, obviously…

every time we say “defund or abolish the police” we just make another Trump voter. Let’s quit promoting false dichotomies - We can control our borders without ICE. We can make our streets safe without masked thugs shooting citizens in the face. The problem isn’t the what, it’s the how.
