Gajim 2.0.0 has been released 🎉 and it's a big upgrade!
Gajim migrated its user interface toolkit to GTK 4, which brings performance improvements and sets the ground for great features to follow. ⏩
Additionally, this release brings improved image previews, better tools for fighting spam, and much more.
All of these changes were only possible by touching a lot of Gajim’s code base, and we appreciate all the feedback we got from you. ❤️

Gajim’s port to GTK4 is almost finished. 🥁 Currently we’re testing thoroughly to make the switch as smooth as possible.
We went ahead and made lots of small improvements, e.g. writing messages while offline, better styling for image previews, improved chat filters and more.
Gajim also improved its spam fighting toolkit: The next release will allow you to moderate all messages of a spammer at once. 🤖

Gajim is currently migrating from GTK3 to GTK4. 🔧 GTK is Gajim's user interface toolkit. It provides building blocks, like windows, buttons and labels. 🧩
Version 4 of this toolkit brings performance improvements to Gajim, e.g. faster rendering of user interface elements. 💨
Additionally, switching to GTK4 allows Gajim to use newer widgets, like nice drop downs.
Here is a quick peek at a new group chat "@ mention" widget. 😎

🎂 On May 21st 2004, Asterix (Yann Leboulanger) released Gajim 0.1.
💬 "Gajim" is a recursive acronym and stands for: Gajim (is) a Jabber Instant Messenger.
📈 Some stats: Gajim's code repository counts around 21,000 commits, and the issue tracker lists a history of over 11,800 opened issues in total. That's quite some history!
Thanks for your support over the last 20 years (and on to the next 20)! ❤️ :xmpp:
