I knew these dudes, these backyard Christian warriors. It's really bizarre that one of them now heads the "Department of War" (it's the one thing the Trump admin renamed that I will call what they do, because it's true for once).
It's so funny to realize that they talk about war constantly but never, ever *think* about it.

Imagine being as obsessed with the idea of "war" as Pete Hegseth is only to find out brand new facts about it such as "a war is only over when everyone involved agrees it's over."
Hegseth comes from a religious background that teaches men to constantly fantasize about themselves as "warriors". It's really fucking funny to me, finally getting to see that attitude collide with the reality that war isn't as easy as it is in daydreams.

It's hard to figure out what to do with abusive people's lies.
Sometimes exposing them as lies serves a purpose. I've been in situations where being a determined, extremely pedantic truth-seeker allowed me to expose an abuser's false pretense of innocence.
This doesn't really apply when the falsehood is out in the open, when anyone who cared to think about it could tell it's a lie. Then you are dealing with something else, something perhaps more insidious.

In a way, yes, in that the reason for most people that they never respected cops is abuse they & those they know received, & please don't think I am stating that I envy that. That would be dismissive & just...shitty?
But every day I am more & more unhappy about the fact that blinding privilege had me clownishly deferring to these fools for so long. Gross.

I think talking about cops is one of the few times where I am willing to specifically emphasize the "criminal" nature of someone's activities.
"Crimes" are whatever the State says they are. When "Law Enforcement" officers commit crimes, it's a very relevant fact.
"Law Enforcement" is just a fancy word for "cops" and all cops are bastards.

The best part of the whole "crooked cops lose their defamation suit against Afroman" thing is that they were essentially suing him for damage to their reputation in their *community*, & by doing so managed to alert a *very* large number of people, like, definitely over a million, to these clowns & their shit-ass behavior.
Afroman said it in the trial: They didn't have to raid his home, break his shit, & get caught on security camera. This is all their choices coming back on them.

So they verbally give some instructions (but do not include key information) & they punish us for not matching expectations (even ones they didn't deign to clearly communicate), but they still refuse to clarify.
So yeah, we get socialized, alright, it's just frequently in the weirdest, most confusing, & most traumatizing way possible.

Typically a lot of this stuff involves status & hierarchy. I don't know if autistic people just generally tend to care less for hierarchy or if it's simply because hierarchy & status cues tend to be communicated non-verbally (often it would seem because they are recognizably ridiculous if consciously acknowledged).
Either way though...that stuff tends to feel weird & mysterious. You know, the stuff that people not only DON'T say, but clearly don't even know how to put into words.

I think this is a topic I'm going to reflect on more, because ND folks theoretically experience "the same" things as our NT peers, but when you don't interpret, respond to, or integrate things in the same manner which NT folks tend to, the way "the same" experience shapes you may be very, very different.

Ableism complicates this specific topic because honestly y'all...ND people of all genders are all so fucking traumatized.
Accepting I'm not only ADHD but autistic gave me even deeper appreciation of that than ever.
There is special trauma of being an autistic woman. There is also special trauma of being an autistic man. And then of course non-binary autistic folks get their own special hell too.
My fellow neurospicies: we've suffered a lot. That is real & it fucking sucks.

Also, although I have come to believe it doesn't differ as much from mainstream as much as one might think (because misogyny is culturally engrained in every area of life), my experience with "female socialization" was literally within extreme religious patriarchy.
That doesn't change that we also had "mean girls". Women are socialized to be caretakers & sweet & deferential but there are lots of secret exceptions which reinforce other social inequalities.

I have had so many ND men develop intense attachment to me that felt very uncomfortable, because they just weren't used to receiving the same consideration as others, because their difference marks them out for not being worthy of it, & meanwhile here's me trying extra hard to be nice to them because I can see that no one else is. Mixed signals happen, & admittedly I do kind of resent other women for that, because like...if you're being kind, just be kind to everyone.

I assume it's likely similar with autistic men. There is an expected result from "male socialization" but add in neurodivergence & the experience is very different.
Also, I would like to be careful that I am not neglecting the specific trauma that "male socialization" can inflict on ND men. Difference is punished so harshly.

I think my experience of "female socialization" as an autistic woman differs significantly from how NT women experience it.
*My* experience is that I was socialized to *always* extend patience, kindness, & consideration to everyone else. I think it was assumed I would actually be aware of status & who gets that treatment from me & who is below that consideration, but I never learned to recognize that.

A good disclaimer when I talk about male/female socialization. These are real experiences, but you CANNOT assume how they map onto trans people.
A trans girl is still aware, perhaps hyperaware, of how women are defined & expected to act, even though she experiences pressure to perform masculinity. Don't tell trans women how you believe they were "socialized". You don't fucking know their experiences. You don't get to tell them about their own girlhood (ikewise trans men & their boyhood).

I think autistic women may have a tendency to absolutize social expectations that we as women should always be kind & considerate to everyone. NT people draw lines on this stuff we don't see. So it becomes extreme "empathy" for us because we don't see the "outs", excuses, & exceptions.
And it's too fucking late for me now. I'm trying to unmask, I'm trying to let go of "responsibility", but the hyper-awareness is never going to fucking going away.

I'm trying to unlearn how much I think about other people's feelings & reactions because it is TOO MUCH.
I think autistic women don't just lack the same privileges. I think the expectations placed on women & girls have an especially intense effect on autistic women because we already have to expend so much effort managing how other people perceive us, so we just take on the full load of emotional management for everyone. Because why not? We're required to think about it 24/7 anyway, right?

I can say confidently in the specific case of my older brother that he did not notice, because he very much never paid attention to what was going on with anyone else at all. He would say so himself (and often has).
And this largely continues to be true to this day.
He's not incapable of it. I've seen that too. But he doesn't do it.

It really is interesting as an autistic woman looking at the autistic men in my family & seeing how differently our autistic tendencies/traits got channeled.
Part of me is envious of their "freedom".
But part of me is grateful that I wasn't allowed to be careless of other people's feelings. I wish I hadn't been asked to be *responsible* for them, but it does irritate me to see my older brother pretend like he couldn't possibly have noticed such things as other people's emotional experiences.

Adams County is apparently the poorest county in Ohio, so I'm at 100% certainty that these white cops making very little money were just fucking filled with envy & rage to know there was a Black man in the community who was doing very well for himself. Studios think they can push AI on us, because they have already been trying for decades to denigrate the value of the artists who create films & to homogenize & cheapen every area that they can.
I am hoping that AI backlash can get people fired up for human artistry in every area. They've been eroding things for so long, they think we won't know or care when the last human touches disappear.

Honestly, I think Sinners would have been a better film had one of the brothers been played by someone other than Michael B Jordan.
It felt kind of hollow to me, & I think having two actors playing off of each other would have given more depth to the characters & story.
To me, the dual-role just felt like a gimmick, & I think it would have been a better film if we could feel a compelling connection between the two leads.

I just watched the 1st episode of Severance for the 1st time since I finished watching season 2.
For a moment, I wondered if it would lose something now that I knew more about what is going on in the world of the story.
The truth is: yes, of course it is less mysterious.
However...
I think I'm actually enjoying the story more. I'm less focused on mystery & paying more attention to how the story unfolds for the characters, not what new information will be revealed.

Tbh I really don't think that getting high is causing the problem here anyway. The problem is me getting high *so that* I can check out mentally. Can't keep doing that so often!

I've been cutting back on the Devil's Lettuce lately because I feel like instead of using it to HELP with my anxiety, I have been using it lately to AVOID dealing with anxiety.
So I'm cutting back, & in doing so I have learned that I didn't know it was also helping with my frequent nausea & lack of appetite.
I'm still going to be careful I'm not using substances to distract from things that need attention, but it turns out there actually were some therapeutic benefits I hadn't realized.

I heard this book highly recommended & I expected to like it, but I was still pleasantly surprised at the sharpness of the satire, the poignant emotion, & his general skill as a writer.
Successfully balancing satire with real emotional depth is tricky for any writer.

I actually bought this book for my spouse because I figured that he, a bisexual autistic man (who is also very horny), would possibly relate to the writing of a bisexual autistic man (whose erotica reveals he is also very horny).
Spouse hasn't started reading it yet, but I think my hunch was correct. The 1st person narrator is a gay man who seems autistic to me anyway, & this story is in part the story of exactly the trauma that is inflicted on gay & bisexual boys/men.

Best of all for me: it's a horror story that's kind of a love letter to horror movies.
As I started reading, I was struck by the fact that AI literally *cannot* write like this. The descriptions, the metaphors, the dialogue, all are pointedly written to convey meaning & theme.
So yeah, I recommend Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle. I guess I'm only a short way in, but I'm pretty confident this will become a book I love.

I'm reading Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle, who is primarily known for writing erotica of a surreal nature, much of it very queer.
Chuck's erotica is pretty silly but very clever, but I gotta say, reading one of his "real" books? The guy is a *very* good writer.
It's a bit of a satirical novel with commentary on AI & the soulless corporations that produce "entertainment" media, but it's also a story about moving through the world as a queer person.

It used to be something that made me feel lonely & isolated. I felt like no one could possibly relate.
And I'll be honest, a lot of people are absolutely baffled when I explain some of my emotional experiences to them.
But when it really comes down to it, the mental & emotional challenges I deal with are the same as everyone else's. That's what makes it a gift, not a curse. Instead of isolating me, it can help me keep other people from feeling quite so isolated.

As a child, I really thought I was born for suffering. I feared I was carrying some great, heavy load that no one else could understand or relate to & that I would always carry it alone.
Good news, child-self! Your struggles directly help you love & care for other people. They help you find compassion & understanding when somebody needs that. It's not isolating, & it helps you to be the person you always wanted to be.
I wish it could have been less painful, but it's still a beautiful gift.

Being a highly emotional, sensitive person can be extremely painful, especially when you are young, but in a way it's a gift, having to learn to cope with heavy emotions. While my emotional intensity & sensitivity are turned up really high, we really do *all* run into similar mental/emotional struggles at various times..
We're all human after all, so it turns out all the time & effort I have spent on emotional understanding & healing has equipped me to help others. Who would have thought?

Sometimes you will have feelings that you may find kind of "ugly": an uncharitable grudge, taking bigoted offense at something, etc.
Those feelings are real too. They don't make you evil, but they may alert you to areas where you need to grow or change.
Sometimes a feeling that we KNOW is unjustified but still feel intensely is actually a flag to let you know, "hey, there is something here you need to deal with."
Emotions aren't good or bad. The question is what you do with them.

Feelings ARE facts.
They are facts about your emotional experience. Your emotional experience is real.
Feeling angry at someone doesn't necessarily mean they did anything they shouldn't have, but it does mean that you feel angry.
Why does this matter? Well, it means that we have to deal with how we *feel* about things regardless of whatever we *think*.

The thing that always gets me is how little trust these folks must have in their lives. One of the reasons they view out-groups in these terms is that dominance & hierarchy control their own lives & make them miserable. Ultimately, this is how they live with EACH OTHER.
When they aren't throwing punches at the Others they are terrified of, they are engaged in absolutely dismal social struggles of their own. They think other people are miserable because THEY are.

Personally I don't see my Mexican neighbors & think "my god! They are taking over," but if control & dominance is all you ever have on your mind, it feels like an obvious, natural conclusion.
They have no room for any other way of thinking. They don't have the capacity to trust anyone not from their group, a group formed—may I remind you—specifically for the purpose of domination. "White" is a designation of your place in the hierarchy, not a "heritage".
