The opening street scene of Romeo & Juliet has everything but actual hands-on wrestling but plays like the taunting before the match like they horked it as a template for the WWE.

I felt the same way about Doom 3: the cartoon violence, explosions, and silly looking monsters were gone, replaced with graphics which tried too hard to be realistic but ended up looking quite stylized and more disgusting than anything before.
Everything everywhere was dark, grimy, and had a sheen of oil on it. Seriously dark, however. Before, things were either well lit or almost perfectly black. Now that they had 80,000 shades of ‘dark,’ they employed all of them, sometimes even in the same scene. Plus, it was a resource hog that stuttered and occasionally crashed.
There was a complicated narrative set-up to it, and the facial animation as it played out was as ghastly as the story was unnecessary. I didn’t want corporate conspiracy; just give me floating heads to shoot!
Basically they went too far, losing the fun of the game in favour of *evil darkness*. I never got past level two, I think.
I still have it and could run it on Steam through BootCamp, but… why? Pffff!

Alas, they probably won’t have the internal fortitude to do so. My guess is that they may receive funds from the industry, thus reducing the likelihood they would.
Any question about this asked of them would probably result in the usual flannel about ‘the complexity of the system’ or ‘the delicate balance that certain economic factors have as their nature’ and so on, until they run out of air or the questioner’s eyes start glazing over from sheer boredom.
Any UK pensioner will tell you that winter heating costs are exorbitant and no mistake. Yet, the Labourites refuse to care.
Power is as near a human right as it can be, without actually qualifying to be one.
Whither Socialism — or even compassion — today? That’s my question.

In the words of a friend of mine — and her sister — “Louise Fletcher is pure *EVIL!*” Now, I pointed out to her that an actor is not their character, it is merely a façade they — and she interrupted me and insisted that the only way Ms Fletcher could be that cruel to everyone in shows was if she herself was “*PURE **EE-VIL**!*”
This is when I realized that I needed to let her believe what she believed.

VHS and even Beta was pretty wobbly at times, so consistency was out the window with tape, compared to either disc formats. Yeah, I definitely see the appeal of those, and either LaserDisc or DVD could satisfy. DVD almost seems too cold in its consistency without having any clear advantages to LaserDisc; at least philosophically.

I see what you mean. For some colour, LaserDisc is more saturated (reds, pinks), but DVD saturates others (greens, yellows). DVD seems to have slightly less contrast, or at least more midtones and LaserDisc seems to have a bolder and snappier look. It’s a tough call.
Presumably, we had to go to BluRay to surpass LaserDisc/DVD is the point, with both being kind of a wash until then.

I thought it took until Blu-Ray to beat LaserDisc for quality of image. Is that statement of mine dependant on a bunch of specific situations (CRT not flat screen / subjective analysis / whoknowswhatelse) or is it valid if you squint and look at it correctly?

Back when God was a cowboy and manual typewriters were An Actual Thing, if you wanted an exclamation point, you typed a period, then backed up a space, and typed an apostrophe above it.
. + ' = !
Now, this had the effect that you only used an exclamation point if you REALLY had to. So people didn’t. Plus the attitude that *only zany people on TV shows would be like that!!* This would also be somewhere in the late-’50s / early-’60s prior to the introduction of the IBM Selectric with the spinning ball typehead.
So.
End result is that anyone over 60 (or super boring) is less inclined to use an exclamation point by nature.

Also, how long will it take to make the new plane AF1 standards compliant? My guess is three years (major overhaul of interior with insulation against thermo nuclear and electrical pulse and impact, plus layout adaptation and telecommunication equipment), plus the $5B guess at cost. So… how many months of use is there at the end of everything? 10? Maybe? Then it’s ’the Presidential Library’s property?’

During Canadian Federal Elections, poll workers have been known to direct husbands and wives to booths at opposing ends of the room, so as ensure spouses are not ‘monitored’ by each other. I have worked one once and was told by the husband “I just want to make sure she doesn’t make a mistake.” I told him that she was probably old enough to manage to make an ‘X’ on her own. She looked down as she smiled. He wandered off grumbling. I didn’t care how he reacted.

There’s a guy doing a triathlon to raise money for animal shelters. Excellent cause, but here’s the details which will break and in some cases establish world records:
1️⃣ swims the English Channel
2️⃣ gets on a bike and cycles across Europe all the way to Asia and arrives in India
3️⃣ dumps the bike and then runs all the way to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas. Hopefully he arrives in the right season to then, just for fun
4️⃣ summit Everest.
He’s going to have his Golden Labrador with him.

Re-watching this reinforces my thought that this truly is art: it reflects the nature we hold up to it in our minds. It is, basically, life: we search for reasons or themes to no avail. Things repeat, other things happen, we try to control events, and while time might lose it will always win in the end.
