In macOS and Linux I feel like all you need is an IDE and a package manager and you're off, but on Windows it's like “oh you need this shell to run this set of commands, but then you need this other shell to run this application, and then you can use PowerShell for SOME of the stuff you need for this application, but then you also need to have it's shell too”

The difference between the free and paid tiers is mostly down to users, there are a few differences as far as file upload limits and the like, but there's not technically a storage cap, so long as your files are under 5MB on the free tier
At least not one that I've seen people hit

With that being said, if you have the Notion App running on Mac, you can use shift + cmd + K to open Notion's search panel from anywhere in the system, which can be rather helpful

I'm on the free tier and I'm not paying for NotionAI because I don't need that
I do have the apps installed on all of my devices, but on Windows and macOS I mostly stick to using them in the browser since it's really just an electron app
Syncing works really well, I haven't been missing anything between, say, my phone and my Mac, which are the devices I've been using the most recently

Throwing all of this into Notion means I can combine a lot of that into one place. It's not everything, I still have apps like Anybox, Mela, Foodnoms, Copilot, and Things for management of certain things, but the bulk of what was handled by Obsidian, Trello, and Fantastical are now all being handled by Notion and Notion Calendar
Do I love that Notion hasn't expanded support from Cron to non-Google Calendars? No. Do I love that Notion Mail will only support Gmail right away like Skiff? No.

I've historically had a rather shaky relationship with Notion, I've always found that it's trying to do too much and that I would just get completely lost in the app and it would just make me less productive overall
Now that I've got so much stuff going on between the blogs, my business, personal stuff, and (soon) a new job, it's gotten really chaotic to manage across disparate apps
I'd have trouble keeping Trello and Obsidian in sync, I'd have issues syncing all of that with my calendars, etc

So people tend to not understand how subscriptions for apps—especially for indie apps—actually helps to prevent enshittification
If I sell you an app for $3, the only way I can continue to make money and support development of that app is to charge for updates and grow the userbase
This means that I constantly have to be expanding the feature set to include new demographics, spreading myself thin and lowering the quality of the application over time as it grows

Today I was playing around with Things on the iPad at the Apple Store since it's installed on the demo units and I kinda liked it
While I don't think I’m going to be moving from Reminders to Things 3 anytime soon, I have been moving some of my project management out of Reminders to Trello, which is a bit more robust
I don't really feel like I need Notion for this, personally, so Trello it is

It’s a generated image, nothing more

Routines now shows a progress indicator for your unfinished routines
I’ve also added a context menu to mark steps as either skipped or completed (steps that were previously marked as completed or skipped will not be changed)
You can also edit the routine or delete it from the context menu

I feel like in the 120Hz debate people forget that there’s a difference between the group that can see the difference and the group that cares about the difference
I have a 240Hz monitor, I upgraded over my 144Hz monitor, I can tell the difference between those refresh rates, it’s amazing and made a notable improvement in gaming ability
The monitor also runs at 60Hz when I’m in macOS because I cheaped out on my USBC-HDMI cable
Can I tell? Absolutely. Do I care? Not at all.

while the center character (I imagine Scooby Doo?) is texturally similar to an AI image, and the shading does look like one, I would be hard pressed to say this is actually one with confidence
The background is symmetrical, though, and gen AI is non-deterministic—it cannot generate the same thing multiple times
as far as AI generated content is concerned, I think it could be a composite with an AI image, but there are cases of artists mimicking the look

How’s everyone enjoying the newest #beta of Routines? A lot’s changed in app, check it out if you haven’t recently (or at all)!
Fun fact: there were 9 different internal builds between this current release and the first public release
A lot of that included changes to the underlying data models and, with the database issues I was having in the previous version, it ended up being easier to ship all the changes at once with the corrected SwiftData setup

Also stop assuming that people are posting about new features, some of these features people post about have been around 5+ years
Sometimes people like to bring up the thought and attention to detail given to particular features, even if they aren’t new

fair enough, I haven’t seen any other articles about other carriers not having this support already and I haven’t heard anyone talk about the lack of support anywhere other than on Google Fi (and Mint Mobile, it would seem)
Google’s messaging around their support of RCS has been somewhat deceptive and oftentimes generally obnoxious and that’s what lead me to this (admittedly hasty) conclusion
But if it truly isn’t their fault then it’s an unfair assumption based off my skepticism

definitely, right now I’ve got a control center button to open the app, but I plan to expand the functionality through other widgets and stuff, the actual app itself isn’t necessarily the important part, it’s about getting the most relevant info to you right now
I don’t intend this to fully replace your main weather app, but more focus on “I’m about to step outside, what’s the weather right now” kinda thing
Hence the super raw design

Both Routines and Just. Weather. now have Control Center buttons to open the apps
This also means that they can be added as Lock Screen toggles (which is how I am using them)
Both will be available in later builds
Yes I stayed up way too late figuring this out, no I didn’t think it would take this long, yes it was actually really simple and I was overcomplicating it
