The is not AI yet.
There is pattern recognition, which science and medicine make great use of. There is LLM- style text and image generation, which ordinary folk like to play with, and there are programmed robots which carry out planned actions.
There are robots which can get between two points, chosen by a human, autonomously, sometimes while carrying a box if required to by a human.
The gulf between all of these is, as yet, unbridged. They rely on completely different versions of "AI".
The problem is humans giving an "AI" system an instruction and letting it work out the best process to carry it out—without humans being in the loop prior to execution. THAT is dangerous.
We're at least a human generation away—at the soonest—from anything resembling artificial sentience, which is what most people think of when Hollywood mentions "AI".

The US Federation failing will result in all-out civil war, but not North vs South, more like State vs State on multiple fronts.
The world is already moving towards independence from the USA, and I feel quite strongly that Australia should be racing toward that goal as well.
In the meantime, reverse the brain drain and get the smarts, many of whom are ours anyway, back into Australia.

There are a number of tracking-panel installation here in Australia. The tech has been abandoned because of the massive ongoing-maintenance expense.
In some cases, the installations were just disconnected, fenced in, and left standing to break up. A very dystopian feel.

It was so supportive of what I had written that it felt like I needed to check my blood glucose levels! Yes, it's a movie, and some parts are dramatised. Ever watched "Chernobyl"? This movie focused on 3 particular women (4 in the book - it included Christine Dardan) at a particular time.
Foster and Vaughn were in completely different areas, and Vaughn was a self-taught expert, THE expert at the time, in FORTRAN who taught other programmers of the shiny new IBM kit.
Jackson petitioned the court in *Virginia* to gain access to the all-white school to further her engineering education, as shown in the movie. Again, McGlathery was in *Alabama*, which was integrating at the time (against the Governor's wishes). He wound up running the Equal Opportunity Office department - what some would now call DEI.
Please, allow that women in general, and women of colour specifically, have abilities equal to, and in some cases far beyond, their male counterparts.
We have lost so much time to racism and misogyny. How much further along would we be if none of this nonsense took place?

The end of the line is the person buying the gas we export to fuel their lifestyle, the person who votes for the people we are making agreements with.
Agreements we NEED to make in the current environment in which we find ourselves, thanks to Trump.

They've developed a similar gene therapy for deafness caused by a faulty protein that causes the cells that turn hair movement into electrical impulses to stop working.
They extract some of the protein cells, correct the genes, inject them back, and after some months the corrected proteins replicate and take over as the bad proteins die off.

Chucking a tax on gas exports should have been done from day one.
Doing it now, right when we are relying on the countries whose people will end up paying that tax to support us with oil products, is ... risky.
Remember, it's not the big fossil fuel corporations that will pay the tax, it's the people they sell to, and so on down the line.

Nope. I grew up in darkness - which sounds cool - and we had very little lighting at night, so wandering to the dunny in the dark wasn't an issue.
My favourite exercise / energy burn off as a kid was to go running in the bush at night. No lights, just the stars. Loved it. Still do it now, but at a walk these days.

Blimey. That was a long day, for me anyway.
9 hours driving, with a couple of wander-breaks for leg stretching and bites to eat, plus letting the dogs take care of their needs.
Oh, and bush-mechanic an issue with the hydraulic park brake, plus get a whacking great stone out from between the rear dualies, which involved loosening the wheels. All 65 kg of me, bouncing on a breaker bar to loosen the wheel nuts ... 🤣
Still, it beats doing shorter drives everyday, as we can just chill for a couple of days until our son gets here.
