Completely agree with this. To over simplify... the % of the money you want to spend now roughly equates to the % of the stuff that's available to buy now.
Savers increase the spending power of current spenders by reducing the amount to be spent now, producers increase (or decrease) the spending power of money being currently spent bu producing more or less goods for sale.
If available for sale goes to 0, purchasing power of money being spent goes to 0.

It's decidedly less efficient for everyone who benefits from the manipulations (possibly unpopular, but I'd argue most Americans benefit at the expense of the 3rd world).
I do think btc is objectively more fair.. participants have a much stronger expectation of being treated equally.. but to your point. Whether or not you think fairness is good is a different matter. Most would say they think fairness is important, but they betray themselves quickly by talking about who NEEDS to be excluded.

The why not boils down to MEV that's difficult to predict how it will behave. Since drive chain anchor transactions can be very high value, it could become routine that optimal miner behavior is to attempt a re-org to capture more blocks (as an example).
OP_CTV, OP_APO, OP_CSFS (I am way out of my depth here) are more interesting covenant options imo. @4moonsettler and @polyd_ on X are sharing a ton of educational content about how those things could work. Recommend reading up on it.. it's pretty mind blowing.

Umm.. honestly I'm not sure.. IRL I work with alot of different models, but mostly risk models.. I have little to no experience with language models.
However, content recommendation algorithms can be quite useful, Netflix is really good at recommending shows I might like. Pandora good at recommending songs I might like. Etc.
I think the danger is a single algorithm out of user control pushing the narrative top down... I imagine that if there were many competing algorithms that clients could kind of download and plug and play in to their client they could be a really useful tool.

Global works sometimes for now, especially of you only use paid relays..
Ultimately though, you'd hope nostr will have a ton of content out there.. and sifting through it would be prohibitive.
I am thinking some kind of algo.. but like client side... am algo that enables the client to pull more of what they want more efficiently, not push where you see what somebody else wants to show.

Could be interesting to train an LLM on "stuff you like" and then have it search the relays for related content.. or something like that.
Maybe from a data efficiency standpoint.. relays could broadly categorize the content the host and service queries of content by category.. could do ot client side as well but that feels really computationally heavy.. and requires the client to download and scan all content only to discard most of it.

I think what nostr really needs is a way to deliver content to you that is reliably interesting to you and also not just the people you follow.
The joy of Twitter was often expanding your circle to include other stuff and people that you didn't know to look for, introduce you to something different.
Who's working on building something like that?

The effect of NOSTR will not be to eradicate those services necessarily. If NOSTR networks effect grow those platforms have an incentive to adopt the standard and gain access to all of the other content published in this format.
They can still compete on brand recognition, general UI UX, user experience, etc.
I expect some of them will probably try and do something like "we'll show you content published through nostr, but not write your events out that way" in an attempt to maintain their monopolies (I think this will fail).

I am pretty sure it's more than that? But maybe not.. for sure you cannot interact with the separate space from your main profile (can't see files, can't copy paste between them)..
Some of the "bad" reviews for it are people pissed off that they forgot the password and now the files in there are completely unrecoverable.
I think it's fully segregated / encrypted... but I'm not an expert so could be wrong.

A VPN is definitely a good idea, you can control which relays you connect to (they could capture IP) but linked media is definitely a bit trickier.
There were a few relays over TOR... would definitely be nice to see more of that.

Also.. a few tips.
Your feed will mostly be people you follow. So follow alot.. if you find someone you like you can check the list of people they follow, and their followers.. should find alot of familiar faces.
May want to try a few paid relays as well, they aren't expensive (couple dollars) and cut way down on spam, so if you toggle just the paid ones on and go to global feed you can find conversation outside your circle without much spam.

I'm android so no idea how the damus UI works / looks.
NOSTR is basically a publishing protocol, you publish events to your relays which are basic social media actions.. publish, follow, like, set a relay, etc.
To collect the list of people following you, you have to check everyone else's events (not just your own, and the people you follow). You also have to check the relays that they may have published that follow to.
For these reasons.. the lists of who is following you are fairly unreliable, and can jump around alot (not sure of that has gotten better recently).

Nostr doesn't host images, so every post thay shows an image links you to another server. If I wanted to capture a bunch of people's ip addresses I could self host an image, include that image in a post, and then capture the ip address of the people that look at it (when they query it from my server).

To add: since nostr doesn't host media, if someone posts a picture they are self hosting, they can get your ip address when you load the picture, a VPN is recommended.

NOSTR is excellent at being a decentralized / censorship resistant way to broadcast information.
NOSTR is quite unprivate, and what you broadcast is permanent (no take-backs).
DMs are private as long as both parties private keys are secure, however everyone can see who has been talking to who.

Pixels are good because you can go completely FOSS and run graphene or calyx os. Samsung is also nice.. their secure partitioned space is good for privacy (like a secret computer within your phone that can't communicate back to the phone part).

Don't be too quick to draw unwarranted conclusions.. 2 points to make.
Vaccine cards and other things like this were / are a reality... a consumer facing app that helps them manage those is not exactly supporting them, it's giving people who are stuck with them a tool to manage what has been forced on them. I don't know the full extent of the app so I can't say for sure that this applies.
As a young man I believed many lies.. I joined the navy and had a job very similar to Edward Snowden. I believed I would be protecting freedom around the world, and only learned later over several years the falsity of my beliefs. People can have their worldviews altered and should be given space to do so.

I don't believe that the bet is #btc will be worth 1 million usdc, I think the bet is on the true dollar denominated value... and since he's locking the isdc in escrow today he's spending $1M on it even if it goes to 0.. the usdc downside isn't his gain, it's the other parties loss.
Either way, I don't believe he really expects to win this bet money wise. He wants engagement.. question is what does he intend to do with the engagement, and why is that worth $1M.

He's buying engagement... bet is only downside for him.
He will give $1M usdc to an escrow party, person who takes the bet will give 1 btc today ($27K value). In 90 days.. if btc is over $1M then he will get the usdc and the btc (now worth $1M so it satisfies the bet payment) if it's not worth $1MM the other party will get the btc back with $1M.
Whoever gets to take that bet is one lucky mofo.

It's floating independently at each exchange, coinbase could be in real bad shape since they guarantee 1:1 conversion.. you can buy on an exchange that allows it to float, xfer to coinbase and take advantage of their guarantee....
Coinbase could be left with a bag of devalued usdc, but... they just paused swaps, so they may continue to display $1 since no trades between dollars and usdc are actually occurring.
Gonna be interesting.

Coinbase has historically always offered 1:1 conversion of usdc to dollars, on other exchanges it is floating as low as $0.96 today.

I discovered crypto in 2021, and at first would say I was an eth "maxi"..
Bitcoin as an actual currency was kind of a foreign concept (deflating monetary supply?) It was alot to wrap your head around... eth and defi were less a revolution and more an evolution of the fiat systems. They made alot more sense to me where btc didn't.
Took me a year or so to re-wire, see how the revolution could work, and decide that's what I really wanted.

Seeing lots of FUD criticizing NOSTR about revealing your IP address (mostly on the bird app).
I'm not a privacy expert so want to make sure I understand the tradeoffs correctly to respond.
Clients or relays could capture / store your IP address, but no more than other website or app you would use.. you also have the option of running clients locally such that the the client couldn't capture this information.
A relay capturing / tracking your I.P. address is a risk, but relays can choose to not store this data and you can choose which relays you want to use. If you use a VPN you aren't revealing your IP address.
Regular users of NOSTR have no more ability to capture your IP here than on any other app.

To state it ultra simply... how hard is it for you to estimate what your money is really worth now? Or estimate how much it will be worth tomorrow (should I save or spend). That question is largely predicated on existing liquid money supply, future rate manipulations, future liquidity injections via QE etc.
Is a corporation with political ties and influence more likely to get those answers right? Or you? And does that information imbalance give the corporation an advantage in recognizing when you're off the mark and willing to pay more than you should?
I cannot point to any proofs of my suppositions here.. but they make sense to me. And bitcoin fixed this. No one has any different information about existing or future supply.

Its tricky because it is partly true.
Because the money supply is so heavily manipulated, price discovery needs to take in to account both changes to the availability of the good or service, and fluctuations of money now and in to the future.
Corps clearly have a much better understanding of what the fed may do in the next two meetings, have a lot more data about what their consumers are spending.. This information imbalance creates the conditions that allow a corporation to overcharge (exacerbated by the fact that the government helps ensure they have limited competition).
Typically if I'm having this conversation with right leaning people, we can just blame the govt.. With leftists I fine if more productive to talk about how the fed creates the conditions that allow for that exploitation.

IMO... One of the fundamental failures of anti capitalists is to understand the cost of producing and consuming information and factor that it to their calculations.
You will often see criticisms to the effect of "capitalism only produces market efficiencies with perfect information". I reject this argument.
It may be true that I could purchase a similar good for less nearby (we'll use a pen, sold by neighboring stores for $0.50 difference in price) however.. Researching all alternative purchasing paths is a significant time cost and likely to only produce minimal value, so I don't.. And maybe overpay for the pen.
Information has to be produced by someone (they should be compensated). And potentially benefits me (I have a marginal gain to be shared with the producer).
I think this plays our in reality... People shop for houses where gain is potentially significant, not for pens.
