Pretty much confirms what you could tell already by looking at many recent new apps. Checked many of my apps I have been using for years now and the results certainly raise an eyebrow.
#FDroid is all about #FreeSoftware and transparency, yet it is hard or or impossible for non-techies to check if they download an #AIslop app from #FDroid or something entirely human made. I'd still like to see some kind of #AI / #LLM disclosure for apps being submitted to the F-Droid repo but it's hard to find a good approach.
Main problem is that many people just lie about their AI usage or change their approach after a successful submission. Happens all the the time on the /selfhosted subreddit.
Btu I see this is already being discussed: https://gitlab.com/fdroid/admin/-/work_items/699

I know that's hard to define and I don't mind apps being abandoned at some point, that's how life goes when you make software. There have been tons of these even without AI slop around.
What I would like to see is some official statement on #AI / LLM driven apps in #FDroid by the F-Droid council. We have had a ton of anti-ferature flags for tracking, non-libre services, ads, NSFW stuff. While big FOSS and software platforms take a stance (such as @npub1wfe…w0av and @npub1fh7…ee83) I find it a bit disappointing that there is nothing like this for F-Droid.
I am not saying F-Droid should ban all AI/LLM supported apps but I would appreciate if you make clear where F-Droid is at because your stance on other issues has been rather clear in the past. When it comes to AI it seems more like: We don't give a shit, hell is coming for us all anyway. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Or maybe I have missed some statement on this? 👀

Is there any statement or policy regarding #AISlop apps by @npub1mtr…trt0 at this point? The amount of new and quickly abandoned apps in the #FDroid repo is quite worrisome.

Your repo is very out of date then, force a repo update in F-Droid. The referenced version is in the official F-Droid repo since June 26th. Not sure why your automatic F-Droid repo updates do not work. @npub13zl…yn3q @npub1t2q…n4vh

So, finally we get efficient local #backups in #Signal and #Molly, adopting the refined Cloud backups! 💾
No more daily full backups ignoring any previous backup! :awesome:

And you will be able to use them cross-platform, so you migrate from #iOS to #Android and vice-versa (once the iOS version gets the new backup format) without using any cloud service.

#Bluetooth was a mistake: Millions of Bluetooth headphones can potentially be turned in eavesdropping devices. Best-seller #Sony and #Bose #headphones are affected by at least some of the disclosed flaws among many others. The true dimension of these flaws is yet unknown as the the vulnerable component is very widely in use under different names.

Those who deal with #Android apps such as #AntennaPod getting killed all the time on #GrapheneOS while running in the background should consider disabling "Secure App spawning" (Settings -> Security & Privacy -> Exploit protection). I have been wondering months about how to get this sorted out and apparently so have many other users if you take a look at the AntennaPod issue tracker.
Keep in mind that you lose a significant security advantage of GrapheneOS when disabling the feature. Learn more about it here: https://grapheneos.org/usage#exec-spawning

While I appreciate bringing up the security concerns the existence of alternatives to #FDroid I do not think we have those when it comes to pure FOSS apps without the usual big corporate trackers/libs. #Accrescent lists a few apps and fails to provide relevant information about them (such as requested permissions). E.g. #Qlango includes multiple tracking libraries by #Meta / #Facebook and doesn't look like it is FOSS to any degree. Even while the #FDroid repo is not carefully curated I don't run into traps like these. 🤷
There is a need for a curated and maintained FOSS app repo and currently there is nobody but @npub1mtr…trt0 providing it. #Obtainium, #Accrescent are mostly option for expert users who exactly know who to trust and what they are looking for. @npub1c7h…evmp @npub18fn…fguu
