Terrible take. It was a small group of elites that led and benefitted from colonialism. And they were cruel to own people as well. They fenced off common land, impoverishing small farmers; then herded people into cities and exploited their labour during the industrial revolution; in WW1 and WW2 they turned British men into cannon fodder, and the Great Depression ruined many lives. My father was born on a farm in the North in 1935; nothing but hard work and hard times, but he is a good. moral human being.

OK I'll check the video out. I agree with the Hiroshima thesis--I've thought the same after reading about the lack of generational genetic damage.
But what about all the radioactive isotopes--cesium, strontium, etc.--scattered all over Japan after Fukushima and Eastern Europe after Chernobyl. Thousands of independent tests have detected them. Doesn't that mean an atom was split???

What about the stories of life in China--authoritarian state, intrusive surveillance, draconion Covid lockdowns, etc? I met a Chinese woman who moved to Japan after Covid. She was traumatized and furious after being locked down in her high rise apartment in Shanghai for over a month. At first they couldn't get food/groceries. Also she was constantly terrified of testing positive and being carted off to a quarantine camp.

Very interesting read. The forever war thesis resonates. And the photo of Iran's leader getting a Covid shot hits hard! However:
1. I question your assertion that the Covid virus doesn't exist. My slim, athletic then-25-yesr-old cousin in the UK got "covid" in April 2020 and it severely damaged one of her lungs--she only has 30% capacity in that lung now.
2. I also question your assertion that there are no nuclear weapons. Then what was tge UK military testing in 1956 near Christmas Island? My great uncle was doing his national service there at the time. When he returned home, he gir married, and several of his choldren were born with defects (ex. sight problems, deformed ears).
3. How can you claim the atom has never been split? We know thst the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear accidents leaked radiation because people got sick. I have Eastern European friends who were nearby Chernobyl as children. The radiation damaged their thyroid and they have had to take thyroid medication all their lives. I know mothers in Japan who used geiger counters to measure radiation in the soil and air after Fukushima.
So what you are saying does not add up, based on the lived experience of people in my life ...

My father was a steelworker, so I'm sensitive on this topic. I agree that the rivalries seem fake, especially with China:
1. If the US and China were truly enemies, the US wouldn't allow 250,000 Chinese to study in the US every year. That's a lot of potential spies.
2. Similarly, I have a friend who works at the top science and engineering university in Japan. She said there are SO MANY Chinese students, especially at the masters/phd level. Why on earth would Japan be sharing high level scientific knowledge and training with Chinese students if China were really their enemy?
3. If the US and China were truly rivals, wouldn't China cut the US off from all rare earths and weapons parts? I mean why sell weapons parts to your enemy??? It's ridiculous.

That's interesting, I was in Ecuador (over 25 years ago). At the time of the Spanish conquest, the natives moved higher and higher up in the mountains to escape the Spanish (and probably also because their land was usurped). They lived in hard to access regions that were also undesirable because of the harsh environment, so they were mostly left alone (to eke out an existence). As a result, their culture has survived to the present day.
