Yeah like TTW. I also like to listen to Ali and Rob on Gold and Guest.
The great benefit of Bluesky is that it's easy to explain and talk about, and easy to get people to sign up and get started. It's a bit of a shame the fediverse doesn't get included in the conversation, but it's hard to talk about without getting into the technical weeds. I just hope Bridgy keeps getting better and, ideally, one day BSky supports a ATP to AP bridge natively.

I don't blame him one bit for refusing to go to Saudi. Good on him for sticking to his guns. But that is something within his control, they did come for him, and he did pass on it. That's what I mean about fans getting upset with him; he's taking up a *crucial* striker position and he's constantly injured. We'll have to see. Plenty more season to go. It's been interesting so far.

I also quite like the idea of hashtag contexts. So you switch into, say, gardening context and all your posts have a user-defined set of hashtags automatically added until you switch context again. Very useful for current events (e.g. a sports match) in particular where it is easy to forget to add your hashtags.

This is the exact use case for why I set up this account. It turned out, the thousand or so followers on my "main" account aren't interested in esoteric posts about Tottenham Hotspur, and with there being no algorithm, I felt it better to create a separate account I could post "freely" on.
Using (guppe) groups works quite well when added to a list and excluded from main timeline. Can't add hashtags to lists, though.
Would love smthg like the old Google+ Circles if you remember those?

I think Sarr and Johnson (and perhaps some of the other younger players?) benefit from absorbing the patterns of the game because they're not the most confident players who impose their will on games; they possibly need a bit of direction. Also using their pace against tired legs.

Hope so. He's a great coach. Ange always spoke very highly of him and fans that knew of him were sorry to lose him. There was some talk of some of our youth heading your way because the similarity of playing style would work for both clubs. Not sure if anything has come of that yet, however. They're pretty good youth, tho. Won the PL2 in an intense competition last season.

They are VC funded to the tune of around $8 million for now, I believe. There is talk of them charging for "premium services" and custom domains/user handles. Not sure how much they plan to make through that, however. Seems a bit of a flimsy business model to me. But these tech companies don't care much for robust business models. It's always a case of building a user base then worrying about the money later (usually by monetising the user base)

I've got a feeling Ange is going to play Johnson and use Deki as a sub for Madders when he inevitably tires. I suspect Ange might want to show some faith in Brennan by not dropping him to the bench (and therefore further risking his confidence) too soon. But he'll swap him with Odobert fairly quickly if it's still not working for him. Just a hunch.

Yeah, I think they'd work well together. Éderson in the Sarr role, Gomes in the Bissouma role. I think that's broadly what he does for Atalanta, but as part of a midfield two.

Gomes. Not sure about Éderson. He's more of a box-to-box 8 by my reckoning, and not Premier League proven. He'd be expensive for a non-EPL player. Gomes is elite at getting the ball back. Probably most similar player is Palhinha.

Ange has consistently said strengthening in the final third is the most important thing. That was evident in this game. Proves his point. Solanke will take time to settle (Haaland did, too), and Odobert will take time too, probably. What's clear is that we're still working on the strengthening; we're not strong... yet.

Paul O Keefe reiterated today Bissouma is on the list of players they would sell if a big enough offer comes in. Perhaps he doesn't want to be sold so that's why he filmed himself doing nos 😅
I'd say it's competition for Biss and Sarr, yeah. Ange wants real depth with competition for roles, and nobody comes close to doing what Biss does. No idea if there's any substance to the Gomes rumour, but it makes some sense, especially because of this 👇

Apart from Eze, all the dribbley players we've been linked with aren't stellar finishers. Seems it's rare to have both traits at once in a player. The more I've looked at Yilmaz the more like Deki he seems to me. No bad thing, but we already have Deki.

Wolves play a different style too, and presumably very different training regimen. It's the transitions and changes in training and style that seem to hurt the players' bodies most. Would be a big risk and they'd have to carefully manage him.

Yilmaz certainly has that quality of being able to run and run, constantly harassing defenders. Ange likes that. Gallagher springs to mind. If you listen to that mic"d video again, he talks about never stopping, never letting the opposition rest. Being able to run and press without rest is obviously an important trait, so you can see them liking Yilmaz for that.
Didn't notice Szymanski was small. Looks about same as Maddison rather than Gil to me.

But yeah, scouting from Eredivisie comes with similar risks to the Championship. Similar but different step up. Eredividie is more technical, more "brainy" (Troy mentioned this), but less physical than the Championship.

It's not that Antony is/was a bad player. If he had come in at £25m with less expectation and time to develop and adapt, maybe he wouldn't be seen as such a flop. He won successive Eredivisie titles, played well in the Champions League, was at the 2022 World Cup. But it's a cautionary tale expecting technically magical wingers to step up from slower, less physical leagues and be what they were there. Fact is, they have more space and time to do their thing.

United's own recruitment team had Antony valued internally at around €25. Ajax wanted €60m. United walked away, but so desperate was Ten Hag to bring in his favoured winger from Ajax, they went back, by which time they had raised the price to €90m! So confident was Ten Hag in Antony, who excelled in Eredivisie, that the club bent over and took the hit. It's been reported Arne Slot is hesitant to bring players over from there such is the disaster of Ten Hag's Antony.

It was @npub1klq…u3kj who wondered a while back why more clubs aren't interested in him. I suspect they always have been because his numbers in Eredivisie are too good to ignore. But wingers moving from Eredivisie to the Prem are a particularly risky business, so I'd hazard a guess that any interest would be quiet, calculated, and only at the right price. Antony being the prime example of an Eredivisie fail. Interesting story behind him, actually...

Sorry, not being purposely contrary btw. It's just links with players who had a couple of decent games in a tournament always bug me. So risky. And he's from a league that's a huge step down in quality.
Fofana does look great but it worries me he looks similar to Gray and Bergvall (on top of being similar to Sarr and Bentancur) so wouldn't he block their pathway? Not sure. Just don't know enough about him. As replacement for PEH he looks pretty good. 👍

The original article in Turkish doesn't mention playing time, so that seems to be just speculation by TBH. All the reports about him appear to be based around Turkish media which are about as notorious as it gets for making stuff up to generate interest in a player. Would take with very large pinch of salt! I did see him at the Euros and thought he was pretty good but he didn't look outstanding to me, which is why I'm so hesitant, but obviously tournaments don't mean too much.

Just had a look at some clips but couldn't really guage what I was seeing. Some good press resistance. He looks strong. Really hard to say without watching a game. His data has him as most comparable to Sarr and Gallagher, but that could be more about how he's expected to play for Monaco. His passing accuracy isn't great and, I've read, less good under pressure. But given the market for 6s is so thin right now, he could be a great rotation with Bissouma.

Fofana I've only heard good things about though. If he were truly a great 6 suitable for the Premier League he'd surely have a bunch of clubs fighting over him at that price? His data suggests he's.more.of a 8.than 6 but that might just be the system he plays? Could be a decent replacement for PEH. Need to have a closer look to see if he's an upgrade.

That Yilmaz link is very lightweight. It's from the Turkish media (The Boy Hotspur site just doing its usual thing of regurgitating everything that even mentions Tottenham; they don't do due diligence) and it reeks of agents attempting to whip up a bit of interest in the player followimg the Euros. It's all based on a comment VvD made about him running a lot. I dunno, being decent in poor leagues and doing ok at tournaments isn't the best guage. Not sure about him.

Yeah, I saw Peter O'Rourke's article today which is where I *think* that figure came from (it's only his "view" btw, and Football Insider are notoriously unreliable - need to listen to the podcast where he discussed it). I'd add to that: Ben Jacobs has reported the clubs are £15m apart in their valuation of Neto, with Wolves holding out for £60m. That's why I keep saying Neto's an exciting rumour, but only if the price is right because I can't see us going anywhere near £60.

That said, the rumour mills are suggesting a bidding war between PSG, Bayern, Chelsea and Spurs for Doué, which wouldn't suit the club, so who knows. It's all just smoke and rumours still and I suspect we'll only find out what's going to happen when it happens, like we did with Gray. All I've read is that we're still at the "making enquiries" stages for all these players.

And that's in the Premier League against elite defenders in an injury ravaged period. We've seen from the likes of Maddison and Bentancur that serious injuries can knock them badly off track. Those injuries are a serious concern and I guess they need to balance up the options and roll the risk/reward dice. I'd be very excited if our risk-averse club felt Neto is a risk worth taking, because he's so perfect for the system.

Yeah, he does look good - he has caught the eye at the Euros and ticks a lot of data boxes (admittedly in a very different league). In terms of speed, he's similar to Brennan, but has more of the physicality of Deki. They've scouted him, and his data looks good, but is he right? If the club thinks so, and we can get him, then great!

Deki is actually massively underrated. He was unlucky his assists tally was so low. His EXPECTED assists and chances created are higher than Netos. If we had managed to put away more of Deki's assists, he'd be hailed as utterly indispensable what with the goals and defensive capabilities. His weakness is being a bit predictable. You have to wonder what a player like Neto who can go both ways could do in this side. 😯

I like Yilmaz. Tries for (and scores) more goals, but not so many assists. But similar otherwise. Reminds me more of Deki seeing him play; scrappy, tough. But better dribbling than Deki. The Turkish league is a way down the league rankings, though, so it would be a huge step up. That's a big risk in itself.

Logically, Doué must be a backup if they can't get Eze, because, if he is were first choice, why haven't they done it yet? They could get him now, unlike Eze, Neto and other players at a competition. Don't know, but with PSG, Bayern, and Chelsea circling, I'm not feeling confident about it.

So much noise around Doué now I'm beginning to think we're going to get beaten by PSG or Bayern*. That said, this kind of noise seems like a familiar pattern ahead of our move. So it could go either way. Would love to see it.
* Bayern completing the Olise move and also having Musiala makes me wonder why they'd go for Doué too.

Chiesa's injury record is so bad he makes Neto look like he's made of granite. Sheesh. Looks like Juve have stopped publishing the nature of his injuries towards the latter stages and Transfermarkt just record it as "unknown".
