Q: Do you have any experience in creating something similar?
I have created a very barebones vector graphics editor in the past. While I probably will not use almost any of it's cod,e it proved to me that this is possible and it also showed me what not to do and how to do everything better.

Q: What will make my tools better?
1. I want to make the whole system very modular from the very start. (More about it soon)
2. I want to use exclusively hardware rendering (with an opengl software fallback)
3. I want to make a system from the ground up that can be used for both vector and raster editing, that will also have animation and video editing support etc
4. I want to use modern technologies and start from the clean slate without years of legacy code

Q: why do you think you can make something better then existing tools?
I do not think I have to make something that is 100% better for everyone, just something that is better for *some* people. I want to work with artists from the start of the project to make something that caters to them and that's why I'm making these posts
My priorities are on stability, speed and ease of use, while leaving a clean path to adding any requested features later.

Q: But what about existing open source tools (inkscape, gimp, krita...)?
While I'm very greatful for their work and what they've brought to the community, I personally couldn't get used to them. They feel slow, outdated and are not made to work together elegantly. I also have friends that are artists that feel the same way.
While I do believe that these tools work great for some people, they do not work great for everyone and a little bit of choice never hurt the open source community.

Hello artists of fediverse!
It's probably not a wild thing to say that we all hate Adobe and similar giant companies that make art software that:
1. Doesn't work on linux,
2. Could probably disappear tomorrow without any warning, taking all our projects with it and
3. Requires expensive subscriptions
I want to try and combat that by creating an alternative open source suite of tools!

The touch controls moved slightly off screen before the first jump, I'd give you the timestamp but it appears that the video is actually a gif (or at least the app I use treats it that way)

The problem this makes is that Google enforces its monopoly over the whole Android ecosystem and blocks anyone else from making a ROM with working apps. The European union is fighting hard against cases like this and there is a great precedent for it to be illegal
There is a hardware attestation API that can be used by any Android based custom ROMs that follows best security practices and that is probably more secure to use than Google's proprietary APIs

As per their own blog (https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-browser-open-source/)
The 92% of their code that is open source is just chromium. They are intentionally not open-sourcing their UI as, quote: "The Vivaldi UI is truly what makes the browser unique. As such, it is our most valuable asset in terms of code.".
So Vivaldi and everything they bring to the table is completely proprietary and they say they are partly open-source because they use an open-source engine as a base (and some glue code they wrote)

Yes if you call it without arguments, but you called it with the --version flag, that changes what the program does, doesn't it? If you called `gcc --version 1.c` you wouldn't expect it to compile your program?

Hi,
First of all gnome extensions are very interesting since they basically change the source code of Gnome itself, that's why they *can* break with any gnome update, but the fun thing is that most of them don't break, developers just need to check if they work and then change the supported versions if they do
Most gnome extensions update their supported version either before it is released or shortly after, have you checked the extension updates and if yes can you name them?

I wouldn't recommend getting a new laptop if you don't need one at this point and I believe that's what @npub15f7…m7wr would recommend as well.
But if you ever needed a new laptop I can't recommend the framework enough. I have an AMD 13 and it's an excellent machine. I might get the new screen or battery in the future but these ones are great as they are so I don't feel the need to upgrade yet. But having the option to do so does feel great
