this reminds me of a recently published argument between Chomsky and Moinbot on whether what happened during the terrible Rwanda wars was a genocide or an atrocity.The letters between them really sounded like they fell out. I think there's a bit of pride in there too.
Appreciate I'm massively simplifying their correspondence. And I say that only to somewhat mitigate fear of trolling, which further highlights your point.

Consider too how well Norway played their cards to actually get to keep much of their sovereign oil wealth rather than have it siphoned away by the globalised fossil industry. I suspect their strategic geographic location in NATO at the peek of the Cold War helped. It just wasn't worth the US and partners taking the risk of playing hardball with them.

I've read before that keeping ponies in the New Forest is very tax efficient should you have money enough that such things matter. That I suspect explains the over grazing.

I walk regularly in the New Forest where there are really just 3 plants; bracken, heather and gorse. Compare it to Purbeck Hills just down the coast where the herbal variety is visibly very significantly greater especially so wild flowers. My opinion is that the New Forest is atrociously managed, mostly due to over grazing, where any other plant bar those 3 (which obviously ponies don't eat) never gets chance to grow more than a millimeter above the ground. A greenish brown desert.

For well over a decade now there's been significantly more money to be made in the froth of the beer of the economy than the beer itself. The real money and influence is all in hedge funds and other pure froth based businesses. Classic employ people to do or make something businesses, the beer, are still led by the interests of those in the froth.

Covid. The range of developmental issues is sweeping, a really clear one is the significant increase in late potty training and children still needing nappies at 4, 5 even 6, which creates a activity sink on teaching staff.

Each generation of children being assessed as lower on developmental stages in the preschool where my wife works. Many a news paper article too on how much later children are potty trained. Yet always this is all blamed on millennial poor parenting rather than a disease that takes its cognitive toll among children perhaps worse than adults.
