i still like experimenting with new stuff a little! but it would take me using it for a while before really suggesting it to others
but for my own stuff, i might just dive headfirst, since i'm pretty confident in my fix-linux-fu! so getting breakage isn't the end of the world for me :blobcorgifloppy:

i just kinda embrace the "oh hi! it's me, snowflake! nice to meetcha!" of people being silly about things i like :blobcatmorningtea:
as for pop, i actually really respect the work people do in their more specialized distros! so i can't really fault it for existing
but i'll also probably always be suspicious of any distro that's a fork of another long-running one, (even if it gets popular!) since all of the hard work is being done by the maintainers of the distro they forked from, meaning it's a constant uphill battle to maintain what makes it unique, but without the support something like debian or fedora has to find (and fix!) *subtle* problems that arise over time with their divergence
like, there's a handful of really popular distros now i see people recommend that, tbh, i expect will be in exactly the same boat as pop in about 5 years; with a super clean happy path that attracts people it works for, but with more inexplicable issues when it doesn't

like, my favorite one so far for navigation has been the crest of the wanderer, which has so much control and speed, with a really strong crit! it also has the most useful dash attack (i mostly find its moveset good for things that march into you, and fliers that hover above you)
but for bosses, so many of them get absolutely crushed by the beast crest, since activating it lets you heal while also having ridiculous damage output--especially with how attacking also blocks incoming attacks
the reaper crest also lets you almost always have enough silk to chain into itself, so you can basically spam things like threadstorm to obliterate non-boss enemies in encounters, or have essentially infinite healing if you can see any gaps in attack patterns (it also has the easiest aerial attacks)

i actually specifically got the true ending for the first time in hollow knight before starting silksong!
i definitely struggled a lot more with some hollow knight bosses and challenges than i have with anything in silksong so far :surprised_pikachu:
i just find that hornet has so many options i would have killed to have for the rougher parts of that game, ahah
like, the silk abilities are just so incredibly strong, and being able to switch crests has trivialized so many bosses for me!

oh! check the battery settings menu!
you can set a limit for charging that will bypass your battery when it reaches it~
that means that if you have your phone plugged in regularly, its battery capacity won't basically half every 2 years

it might not be, but this describes the recent ashcoyote situation pretty comprehensively
tl;dr - she's a trans filmmaker who made an explainer video about abdl a while ago that didn't shine a negative light on it, and a puriteen tiktoker ended up making a gdoc trying to character assassinate her and anyone else who didn't instantly condemn people like me
said tiktoker even falsely copyright struck the video down, and tried to mobilize a purge against abdls in general with a fancy slogan, hashtag, and everything!
the result, because of how youtube works meant that ashcoyote actually couldn't contest having her work effectively deleted by someone else without paying a lawyer
luckily, instead of just becoming another example of people being terrible to each other and ending there, a bunch of people managed to get her legal fees paid and the hateful rhetoric went though a streisand effect, causing lots of people recently to recognize how messed up that kind of hate was

oh yeah, 1000% not a lost cause!
i don't even remember the last time i worked for a place that paid any attention to my school stuff--it was always about my ability to demonstrate that i could approach problems that were beyond my knowledge, and that i was a person people liked being around~
like, usually how interviews would go for me is that i'd spend some time showing off a thing i made and describe why i made the choices i did. i'd also show off my notes, and failed attempts, with the things i learned along the way
being able to do that will impress a lot of people who could hire you! :kirby_happy:

it's actually wild how much it looks like it was designed with that in mind already, and it would be such a huge benefit for both itaku (letting artists have more visibility) and fedi! (more art on fedi!)
