Here’s the current architecture of Vernissage.
What started as a small project has grown into a surprisingly capable platform. The architecture has become fairly complex, but it finally feels like most of the major building blocks are in place, so I don’t expect significant additions for a while.
It’s exciting to look at this diagram and realize how much has been built. Every part of it has been developed in the open and published as open source from day one. 😊

🌍 #Vernissage 1.39.0 introduces support for six languages: English (US), English (UK), Finnish, French, German, and Polish.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed translations. Localization requires a lot of time, effort, and attention to detail, and Vernissage would not be the same without your help.

Thanks to your incredible support and dedication, the Vernissage translations are making great progress. We already have reviewed translations for English (US/GB), Polish, and German, and we are very close to completing Finnish, French, and Spanish as well. 🤩

Today we released a new version of #Vernissage, and I’d like to share a brief look at what’s coming next.
Before the summer holidays, we plan to implement hashtag following and prepare all app strings for translation, then publish them in a translation system so the community can help. During the summer, we’ll focus on push notifications for the iOS app and keep crushing the currently reported bugs. After the holidays, we hope to release multilingual support in both the iOS and Angular apps. 😊

Today we released #Vernissage 1.36.0 🎉
The biggest change is support for pinning photos to your user profile, synchronized with other Fediverse platforms that support the "featured" collection. This release also includes smaller fixes, such as better error logging and improved status parsing to HTML with hashtags. The iOS app has been submitted to Apple for review and should be on your phones soon.

I recently saw a discussion here about hashtags, which inspired me to make a few improvements to #Vernissage. I refined the helper text and added autocomplete suggestions for both hashtags and users as you type. Importantly, hashtags that follow readability and accessibility best practices are now prioritized - making them more likely to be selected by users.

Please note an important detail about Vernissage for iOS: it is a dedicated client that connects ONLY to #Vernissage instances (while communication between servers is handled via ActivityPub).
It does not support Mastodon, Pixelfed, or other services. Vernissage uses a different, in some areas more extensive, API. Unfortunately, many Fediverse apps imitate Mastodon by exposing the same API, which can lead users to believe that this is how the Fediverse works by default. 😉

After weeks of development and testing, Vernissage for iOS is now available to everyone. It’s free, with no in-app purchases, no tracking, and no privacy-invasive mechanisms.

So far, testing of the iOS version of Vernissage is going amazingly smooth 🚀
In just 5 days, our Patrons have launched the app nearly 1,000 times (!), submitted 20+ different reports, and (this is my favorite part) not a single crash 🎉
We’ve already shipped 18 builds during that time, iterating fast and polishing things up.

As usual, most of the challenges were around extracting and transforming files from the Photos/Files apps.
