In 2 weeks the Superbowl will be held in the City of Santa Clara.
For the past 3 hours, the normal business of the Santa Clara City Council has been held up by person after person coming forward in public comment to tell City Council and its local police force to stand up and take concrete actions to protect people from ICE.
Council is not allowed to act on an item not on the agenda, but they are talking now about holding a special meeting asap to take action.

The sad thing is...for work purposes, I love Microsoft Office Suite. Excel outperforms Sheets for any serious analytical work, and desktop Outlook is far far superior to Gmail. (Teams shall not be mentioned here.) But now they are destroying all that with Microslop.

I'm not afraid of "AI" (which is just a marker term) doing anything at all. I'm very afraid of how billionaires will use it as yet another way to trick and cudgel the rest of humanity into giving up basic rights.
Kind of like how Uber, Lyft and Doordash used app-based dispatching to destroy fundamental employment protections for millions of workers. The problem is not the apps or the LLMs, it's how they are used by billionaires to coerce, control, and dominate the rest of us.

Not only email but also Google Docs and Sheets. It is literal extortion - Google refused to allow me to access my own documents unless I clicked agreement on a popup about Gemini being added to them. There was no way to opt out. Those documents reflect thousands of hours of work (MY work, and my colleagues' - not Google's.)

Last year, the private health care company HCA announced it was going to stop providing essential emergency, trauma, and stroke care at the only hospital in San Jose's East Side, a largely working-class, Latinx and Asian community, At the same time, HCA planned to invest millions in its hospital on the wealthy west side of town.
So - the community mobilized, and the County of Santa Clara bought the hospital!
It will now become part of our county's public health system, restore the trauma, stroke, and cardiac services that HCA closed, and be open to all.
