There is no "Mastodon", only a loose network of federating servers. So "Mastodon" cannot "bring in" more of this, that, or the other. Nor can "Mastodon" prevent people spinning up their own servers and trying to federate with others.
And lastly, "Mastodon" cannot make individual users look at anything they don't want to look at – there are no pushy algorithms here.
Seems to me that some people who ought to know this need instructing.

By 17. January 1851, Peter Christen Asbjørnsen’s Christmas annual, Juletræet for 1850, had sold nearly 23,000 copies. It’s a remarkable sales figure in a country of fewer than 1.5 million people, many of whom had little-to-no disposable income, and many of whom were barely literate.
My recent foray into Christmas annuals was, shall we say, not quite so commercially successful. (I sold ~15 copies, although my Ko-fi customers (the majority of my sales) were very generous.)

From the article:
"The Telegraph reported lyrics from the canticle written by a chorister included 'Lord, how long shall the ungodly triumph?' and 'how long shall all wicked doers speak so disdainfully?'"
Yes indeed. The choir has been suspended for singing lyrics from the Bible (see below).
(Perhaps they would have fared better singing the service in Latin, like the Pope wanted all along.)

I recently read an article on how a particular strain of podcasting has died the death, and how another strain has gained ascendency in the podcasting world. There has been a pivot towards "chat show" format, apparently, at the expence of a "narrative" format.
As I continued reading, it became clear that the article concerned itself only with podcasts published as commericial ventures by corporations of one sort or another, and that the metric by which they judged success was revenue generated.
No hobbyists mentioned. No public dissemination podcasts mentioned. No struggling artists mentioned. Only filthy lucre! Ugh!
How anaemic is the commercial world! How narrow the vision of mercenary journalists who dance to their groat-tossing masters' drum!
