Well, there are signing extensions like Alby and nos2x, and there is nsec.app which uses a "bunker". They take away the need to enter an nsec (which is dangerous because it only takes one oopsie to a scam site and your nostr "account" is compromised. Wow, https://nostrudel.ninja keeps getting better and better. This latest release seems to "rank" zaps from highest to lowest, left to right. This is terrific in that it effectively gamefies zapping by incentivizing zappers to up-their-zap. In essence, this then becomes a zap-auction where the zap "winner" winds up at the leftmost position, that is, the most visible and spotlighted position. This position, in turn, ostensibly should lead to increased numbers of followers for that leading zapper. With Mutiny shutting down, I've been researching other wallets and trying things. Feels like trying to settle on a #Linux distribution! Lots of options, pros and cons. Just for hodling a few sats on the lighntning network, I've messed with and like Alby and Phoenix, but seem to be narrowing in on the Green wallet. Nope, I'm not buying this alleged change of heart. When I hear "crypto for kamala" I really hear "we want donations too." This is is person who just called for "oversight" of social media, similar to what Brazil is doing with X. She and Democrats largely will do the same with #bitcoin and crypto. Bitcoin may not be a "safe haven", whatever that is, but I look at it in this way: if gold was only 15 years old, and I have a chance to invest a couple of dollars in this immutably finite asset, should I? Gold has been an investment for about 6000 years of recorded history, with bitcoin we have a chance to get a few sats only 15 years in. At this early point, it might be considered irresponsible to NOT get "off zero", that is, to get a few sats.

Any company that ships goods would do well to study the coconut. There is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, as well-packaged as a coconut.
I've watched videos of people husking coconuts with machetes, and even with their teeth if the coconut is old and dry. However, I'm convinced they are all AI-generated fiction. Opening a coconut is dang hard. The "nut", that is, the "meat" and "milk", are all ensconced in a nearly impenetrable fortress of cushion and casing. God packages things the right way.
Even though I use a handsaw, flatbar/crowbar, and cordless drill, as well as a good deal of muscle, it's hard to get into them thangs.

A flatbar really helps to peel away the husk. This seems like a major victory, and it is, but the fibers do not give up the ghost easily. It takes a lot of ripping, muscle, crowbarring, more ripping, sweat and muscle. It's hard.

Eventually, the "nut" is revealed. Two small holes drilled in the nut allow for pouring the "milk" inside. I got over 8 ounces with this one. Oddly, a coconut is not a nut and it has neither milk or meat, though we use those three words anyway.
Finally, there is the meat. The best part of opening a coconut is cracking it open. Normally, a swift smash on a hard surface splits it right in two. This time, I got thirds. Then, a coconut doesn't give up its meat easily. The white flesh needs to be carved out with a sharp and string knife. But, the payoff is terrific. There is nothing better than fresh coconut meat. The stuff that we buy in stores is nice, but it's not even close to fresh coconut.
Plebs, the proof of work of opening the nut is well worth the payoff. Somehow this just reminded me of #cashu

Mutiny Wallet apparently is shutting down. My thoughts:
(1) I guess I wasted a bunch of sats opening channels.
(2) Much respect for what the Mutiny folks created though. After everything, this seems to me to reinforce the notion that people matter and people fuel these things. And, when the fire burns out or the people get burnt out, the project ends.
(3) In a weird way, this makes me like Bitcoin even more. At this point, it really doesn't rely on people much to fuel it. It just keeps fueling on and doesn't care about people burning out or businesses not paying bills or whatever causes project shutdowns.

It feels good to get something working. I made a little token called Hivebits (HBIT) a couple of years back, it was on the fritz for several months, but I got it working again today.

To bitcoiners, Trump's speech https://www.youtube.com/live/EiEIfBatnH8?si=GxYagadnY2q0Oi_s may have seemed like more of a campaign stump speech and a bit underwhelming bitcoinwise. At least that's how I perceived it as he was speaking. Whereas other speakers were in Nashville to talk bitcoin, Trump was there to campaign and bitcoin was a topic in the campaign.
Also, Robert Kennedy Jr. may have set the bar pretty high by laying out his plan with ambitious bitcoin reserve purchases. I like high goals, however, I'm not sure if his goals are even possible: buy 550 daily until 4 million. Umm, only 450 are minted per day. Who's selling?
Zooming out...
- RFK Jr. is much more free to say things. He has zero chance to win. He will not be president and his plans are moot (moot other than maybe in that they can serve to something of a "first offer" bargaining chip for Trump to react to).
- Trump stands a good chance to win, at least 50/50. Thus, he needs to be more cautious in what he says. For instance, if he'd said, "I promise to replace the US dollar with bitcoin!", the crowd likely would have erupted in applause. However, burning down the house statements like that would be political suicide. You must win office to make changes in office.
From a broad perspective, the speech was huge. We're taking steps here and this was a very big one. This post logged Trump's promises well: https://stacker.news/items/625076 but here are my thoughts:
- A former president and maybe next president spoke at the biggest (at least in US) bitcoin conference. That's de facto official recognition. That alone is a huge change from ignoring bitcoin, combating or criticizing bitcoin.
- A bitcoin reserve or "stockpile" was promised. This is a step in the right direction.
- The notion of keeping bitcoin in the US was big. It's rather general at this point, but hopefully that means protecting those who code, miners who mine, hodlers who hodl, etc. This is maybe bigger than the reserve, actually.
- Personally, I really liked the advisory council proposal. That puts bitcoin "in the White House". That puts people who get it speaking into the president's ear, instead of the media's spin or hell-bent politicians trying to drum up public attention. A good advisory council could help keep the president on point.
- Also personally, I thought the 1 BTC coin gift was pretty cool. Would love to see that sitting on the Resolute Desk.
Overall, considering how far bitcoin has come, I think this will be seen in the future as a watershed moment.

I've seen people writing about wanting an "Alby invite" and saw recently that Alby is phasing out the free tier. Two questions:
1. Is this true?
2. If yes, what is a good option for a new nostrich to get zappable? (And by "get zappable" I mean stupid easy.)
I already use Alby and felt it was the easiest and best way for a noob to get a signing extension AND lightning/zapping wallet. Alby is/was my recommendation for newcomers.

Also, is it accurate to say "produces" oxygen? I thought elements cannot be broken down (hence, elements) or not created w/out nuclear fission or fusion. Apparently, Vitalik Buterin warns against backing Trump just because he's going more pro-bitcoin or pro-crypto. The gist is that it will encourage politicians to say they're "pro-crypto" just to get support and donations. My immediate thoughts...
1. It's all about votes for policies. Even if the candidate doesn't believe in bitcoin or have a clue, what matters is their policies and votes while in office.
2. A "pro-bitcoin" chipmunk-in-a-suit who votes pro-bitcoin policies is a good chipmunk.

No, I want a 0% Inflation target. I really don't know why we've come to think that any inflation/value theft is okay. Frankly, though the Fed says it has a 2% goal, I'm in favor of a -2% Inflation (2% deflation). We've tried the Keynesian way for decades and we're here. Cant hurt to try the Austrian way for a couple then reassess.

Understood. I went biking after replying and my chipmunk brain 🐿 🧠 figured that's what you were talking about. (Can always think better exercising.) I had nsec backup on my mind due to a chitchat I had on Stacker News a couple of days ago. Supertestnet suggested a technique which was interesting involving a "master nsec" and a "hot nsec" and then a new "hot nsec" if the old one is breached. Still, that's a bit different from what you mean by "identity." Semantics! 😀

Not sure about "nostr is the identity", but one's "nostr identity" is his or her nsec private key. To my thinking, it doesn't matter running your own node or not, it's the protection of the key that matters. Also, not sure how that's backing it up. Writing this, maybe I'm looking at another thing: I was thinking my "nostr identity", my credentials. I think you're talking about creating a backup of my posts and activity and by housing it myself, I'll always have it (unless I wipe it, then it's on me!).
