We have 50 hens typically for 3 families. Done meat birds too. They die easy enough from predators or rarely egg binding. Never had a disease other than mites for 20 years. Not vaccinated unless we order chicks. Healthy environment with pasture. Hard to find good feed tho and even nasty glyphosate feed is expensive. Luckily they eat everything we eat as leftovers which helps.

Yes, it’s the culling. Next expect a leaky vaccine like Marek’s that a) makes commercial growers dependent and b) increases virulence. Natural immunity is the way. I’d rather lose my livestock to a disease that the strong ones will develop immunity to and pass on those good genetics. The current industrialized model is cull all preemptively or vaccinate. Terrible waste and short sighted esp as these meat animals don’t have long lives to begin with.
What’s going on in some British dairies over avian flu is unconscionable. Killing healthy animals over a virus they survive because of fear over human transmission of a disease that is not a threat to the general population. I am suspicious of the ones behind what seems to be a multi-pronged attack against traditional farming.

Both require curating your feeds to get content you want. I’ve had to # or follow to do that in nostr. Just discovered I could customize feeds in primal. There’s a learning curve.
Lately X algorithm seems to override my preferences somewhat. Love the no ads aspect nostr and zapping to reward content. I’m new to nostr but it feels more genuine, more manageable, and occasionally more freaky.

Kids can learn in 2 hours what they get in public school from 8. Lotsa options. Community groups, quality curriculums. We used Laurel Springs but that was 20 yrs ago. Parents send work to teachers and they review. Had primary source materials and integrated project based cross subject learning.
