What inspired the story in your WIP?
A side character with unfinished arc at trilogy's end.
A league of neurodiverse, disabled sorcerers w. potential beyond the plot
Family members of dead bad eggs
The founding of 'United Nations' with teeth -police, army, emergency services, magic school etc
A bridging story b/w #fantasy trilogies that needed telling 😄

#WritersCoffeeClub May30. How do you achieve a sense of wonder in your stories?
Firstly by having four teenage Aussies stumble into a roughly Bronze Age-ish fantasy world (Umarinaris), where some things are familiar to history nerds Fiona and Linh, and much they encounter is wonderful and or terrifying.
But from the reviews, I suspect my readers' greatest sense of wonder stems from the journey my plots take them on, keeping them guessing, with twists and turns that elicit wonder.

#WritersCoffeeClub Do you have advice for other authors that you haven't heard from different sources?
Don't just write in the way that works for you, write WHEN it works for you.
0 words a day, week or month is totally valid. Life happens, as does chronic illness/ disability. Months without writing does not in any way mean you cease to be a writer!

#WritersCoffeeClub May 22: If someone were to write your biography, who would you want to write it?
As this one falls on my birthday, someone who'd make a neat present of it!
They'd have to have ADHD to get the pacing right, and be fairly blunt to nail the tone, and with a well developed sense of adventure suited to the subject matter.
I have no idea who that is... (but I'd do it WAY better so maybe I should beat them to it with an autobiography 🤔 😉).

#WritersCoffeeClub Day 18: How important is social media in promoting your work?
It definitely helps (thanks again everyone who boosted my book launch toot the other day!) Most of my sales so far are from social media (my recent Bookbub ads tanked).
Though having deleted my Twitter account, stopped using Instagram & as my ADHD can't stand Tik Tok, my website & blog have greater reach than here & Blue Sky.

#WritersCoffeeClub #Writing 30 How do you keep track of your work? Do you have a system?
There's a box. All of my (hard copy) story idea notes are stuffed into it, in books or on loose leaf paper.
There are files on my computer. Some are even in folders. File & folder naming is haphazard.
Worldbuilding and character notes were once on paper, are now outdated, and are currently on the pages of various wips, or else stored in my head.
Systems would get in the way of me actually writing 😉

@npub10d5…vvxa no, I'm much more inclined to laugh with teenagers for saying inappropriate things than to tell them off, so I'm not a good fit for teaching teens (they shatter my poker face 😉 ). Though I hope to work with kids just under that age group (last two years of primary school) next year, which will help.

#WritersCoffeeClub 6: Self-pub or trad? How's it going?
Spent 6 months in the query trenches, sent out less than 35, got bored, went #indieauthor, haven't looked back!
I've published 2 YA Fantasy novels in 2 years, & a novelette as my newsletter reader magnet.
Between full time teaching & poor health, maintaining a blog, newsletter & getting books out has taken my all. I hope to start advertising & selling to any effect (I'm published wide, so no KU page reads) next year (when book 3's out).

@npub10d5…vvxa and then I remembered Ruarnon has to give multiple very formal pep talks as regent 😆 (and with Omah's influence they're good at it 😉 ) .
This another of those things my upbringing is biased against, so I can't easily make connections with it.

@npub10d5…vvxa I've had a similar experience in teaching, supporting a full time colleague 2 hours a day in class when I was part time, and co-teaching 2 classes with a colleague. It can be done alright, with the right combination of people, attitudes, work styles and flexibility.

At present, I suspect it would have to be a novella or anthology, as opposed to a novel. Our differing schedules and my roller coaster health would make actually getting much done with regularity and over time very challenging.
But were it the right person, and had we similar interests in plot, possibly different ideas re characters, and a shared love of SFF, I'd love to, at some stage.
