* Old security system triggered its alarms when power was restored. Fixed by removing mains fuse and removing batt. Seems outside alarm box had no separate batt (or it's dead), thank goodness!
The server (Lenovo M53) boots OK but no LAN. New bare bones chassis + PSU coming from eBay for £35.

Turned on my big Android-based lounge TV for the first time in 6 months (that says a lot!) and of course there's a 1.2GB update to download and install.
Reckon it'll be 30 mins before I can watch anything or throw my laptop screen onto the Tele.

One of our cheap USB desk fans has blown its PWM chip - a tiny, 6-pin SOT-23 device. I've bypassed the board so the fan runs.
The chip's on AE @ 10 for 95p. My poor Atom 360 box is doing its best at being an IoT server. Startup is always the hardest part - see pic.
It's hot here in West Sussex. The box itself is one fan down at the moment and tells me the CPU temp is 77C. Copy the p/w...Copilot jumps up to 'correct' unusual caps. FFS No!
Bring the page into Notepad...and Copilot is there too.
This took much longer that it needed.

I finally got around to hooking a BBC Micro:bit to a #Meshtastic node and sending and receiving messages. Just fixed an issue with an ESP8266-based smart switch running Tasmota. It began to randomly reset to factory defaults & I thought its flash memory was dying.
Turns out the manual on/off button is faulty & randomly stays 'pressed' for >40 secs & this triggers a config reset.
Fix = replace button.

This PlusNet Hub One was modified years back to run OpenWRT, but a f/w update yesterday failed & it went into a panic loop.
I cracked it open & used the serial header put in first time round to RAM boot OpenWRT & then scp'd in the upgrade & ran an update from console. Just fixed an odd issue with an AP using OpenWRT. It was OK for clients, but wouldn't get NTP time via the WAN router, ping it, nor do NSLOOKUPs on the console. The router had a 'Bind IP to MAC' for the AP with the wrong MAC addr. AP has a static IP, so...huh!? Dunno how long it's been like that!

Took a few mins to work out why I couldn't open the Syncthing GUI on the home server from a laptop downstairs - browser errors. Turns out, if you have a hardware VPN to a remote office & the laptop also has a Wireguard VPN open to the office, your packets get dizzy & you divide by zero or something.

Here's a photo of an old project still in use In the tiny box is an ESP-01 running Tasmota, a 3V switching regulator for it and a 3V 3A buck converter for an LED strip. It's linked to the house IoT server and the strip comes on at night using a Zigbee occupancy sensor if you walk into the kitchen.

My XIAO ESP32S3 Wio-SX1262 #Meshtastic setup is leaving the breadboard. The platform will have an OLED display, GPS module, Pi Zero 2W, USB serial TTL adapter, battery & some buttons. It'll be used for my bash-based tools buffoonery. Just planning the layout. I feel some wirewrapping is afoot.

Such fun today. Worked from my Mrs' office. Lunch break was adding ZigBee temp sensors, a front door sensor & a motion detector to Node-RED via zigbee2mqtt. The system controls room heating via wifi smart plugs. Next is API integration with the room hire calendar to only pre/heat booked rooms.

I have this mad idea to write an auto msg handler / responder (local wx, reminders etc.) for #Meshtastic...in bash, so no faffing with Python and virt. envs.
Anyone seen similar (Bash & not a full BBS)?
Just studying existing (non-bash) code 'cos API and protobuf docs are...erm...a bit y'know...

Major power cut this AM. Happened to have a 600VA UPS destined for the Mrs' office rigged for testing. Plugged router into it and had Internet and WiFi for almost 2hr before battery died. Power back 30 mins after that. Such fun
