Today 4th January is World Braille Day
Braille is often thought of as being outdated & not used because there's technology instead, however, I personally know people who still use it.
They use tech, but there's cases where braille gives autonomy & confidence faster & easier than with tech.
Last year Spain made it mandatory for accessible labels on products, braille and/or QR codes, especially on products where it's needed for safety, integrity & quality of life.

Scammers incite panic by mentioning account deletion or freezing
On Mastodon, the server owner, server admin & server moderator accounts have profile badges & are the only accounts who can delete, limit or freeze your account completely
External admins & mods can only restrict or block accounts from their own server, they cannot system-wide nuke accounts
No-one will ask for your password, nor insist you transfer your account to an email address they specify
If in doubt talk to your server admin or mod team 🙏

You probably already know the fedi does not have money for this type of thing, but just in case:
Always check what sort of account you are dealing with, and what they are offering before you click on any links.
There is no monetary scheme for posting on the fediverse.
And if something looks too good to be true, it usually is a scam.

A tip to minimise the impact of spam & scam accounts for Mastodon users:
Log in to your Mastodon account from a browser, go to notifications, hit the up/down arrows top right & go through the filter settings & save changes.
Key points to consider using filter or ignore on:
new accounts - most scam accounts are new - it will limit new users interacting with you, prioritise as *you* see fit
Unsolicited private mentions
Moderated accounts
Do what works for you, your account, preferences & with your server. This is not a definitive guide, just some info that might be useful

Mastodon admins & mods often deal with spam from their mobiles. Keeping the network spam-free even though the admin/mod is not on their computer but are actually shopping, traveling etc..
The last Mastodon software update v4.3.4 has a bug that severely limits how well the moderation module can be seen on a mobile.
The way to communicate this to the Mastodon devs is by creating a GitHub ticket & if there is enough upvotes the devs will prioritize the ticket & hopefully fix the issue 🙏

With the Mastodon upgrade 4.3.0 notifications from servers that have been limited by your admin/mod team can still reach you
The default setting is filtered, but you can change that to accept (no filter) or ignore (the notification doesn't reach you) if you prefer
In filtered mode you can delete without reading the post or mute, block or report the user. You can also read the post & accept it if you want
If you receive spam in filtered notifications it means your admin/mod team are aware this server is sending spam & it's totally okay to delete, mute or block the user without reporting it

The music festival yesterday was amazing and the attention to detail of how they looked after everyone was so good. Something that really made me happy were the toilets.
There were two toilet blocks at the event. One set had two sections that were labelled for everyone. The other set had three sections and they were clearly labelled as, female, everyone, male.
I'd love to see this become the normal way of doing things 🙏

The planet did such a spectacular light display last night that I think I can take the day off from trying to draw something beautiful. 😉
Seriously, I'm awed by the planet we are fortunate to live on and last night is a great reminder that it's awesome, and precious and we should look after it.
