Can't say I understand why people are going there. It's just yet another instance of delegating some effort in exchange for complete dependency on a corporation.
Medium or Substack or whatever, it's all the same from my position as a reader.
It just reminds me of things like businesses (and even governments!) making Facebook or X their only platform. Like, guess I'm not seeing anything there then. They can also just delete or suspend your account whenever they want with no recourse.
It's usually because it's "fine" until it's very suddenly not.

It's straight up nonsense. He was the guy behind that BS about Carney magically orchestrating bond market sell-offs which was just completely fabricated based on the evidence that he thought it would be cool if it was true.
Going through this article now. It's just repeating what has happened so far in the trade war while fawning over Carney. There are no readouts of these calls so he's once again just inventing what happened on those calls because it makes him feel good.
This Blundell article is so long while saying absolutely nothing new.

I am begging people to stop reposting that thing about Mark Carney's "brilliant move" of coordinating a global sell-off of American bonds.
I'm now seeing screenshots of facebook posts of tweets of imaginary sources from VoteReggie.ca (which has absolutely nothing on it about this)
Know that the source of all this is a completely fabricated article from Dean Blundell based on nothing but "vibes". Is it possible that something happened? Yes. But there's zero evidence whatsoever that Carney coordinated anything like this.
Idolizing a political figure based on nonsense is not any better because you're doing it from the left. Verify things before you spread them.

Once again, that is from March 21 so not directly relevant to the bond movement that drove this pause.
Yes of course someone is selling. This provides no evidence at all that Canada is selling, that some EU bloc or Japan is selling, or that there was any agreement to sell.
I'm not saying that it's impossible that it happened, just that I have yet to see any evidence whatsoever that Canada is selling so I will give zero credence to any "Carney the genius" story until any such evidence appears.

That's not the part I mean. His substack article asserts that Canada and others started selling off their US debt holdings based on absolutely nothing.
It references a tweet from Mar 11 (which was wrong https://www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/fact_checking/online-posts-claiming-canada-offloading-400-billion-in-u-s-bonds-are-false/article_4b46bf68-1fa5-5eeb-8e5f-fd8e6b7e80bd.html).
The only real suspicion serious people have is that possibly China is doing a sell-off.
The entirety of Blundell's story is based on "Wouldn't it be cool if this completely fabricated thing is why bond yields went up?"

Some packages being stolen a while ago triggered me to start an extremely elaborate process of replacing our battery-powered doorbell with a PoE-powered doorbell from Reolink.
It now records 24/7 to an NVR and sends push notifications to phones if anyone gets anywhere near the door.
This is very unnecessary but fun.

PC: 64.5% of seats with 42.97% of the vote
NDP: 21.7% of seats with 18.55% of the vote
Libs: 11.3% of seats with 29.95% (!!) of the vote
Greens: 1.61% of seats with 4.83% of the vote
This system is particularly disastrous for the Liberals.
It shouldn't be a majority government and it's not even the correct party being the official opposition.
It's no wonder that people feel their vote is useless.

Quick calculations say that the "Working Canadians Rebate" and GST vacation will cost something like 8 billion dollars.
So many recipients do not need this money (like us) and it would be so much better spent on building government-run rental buildings. You can build a pretty decent amount of housing for 8 billion.

This is driving me crazy. People keep posting analysis on voting numbers when it's not even close to having all the results yet.

Basically "No we won't do this...for reasons". Personally I find the reasoning there incredibly weak.
Having been on an instance that supports posting over 2000 characters for quite a while now, I have no idea what their issue is. It already collapses long posts.

This reminds me of another one that drives me crazy, yet another 'business' word.
The phrase "to table something". Logically (and etymologically) this means to put something on the table for discussion. Derived from UK parliamentary language.
And yet in the US this means to delay discussion about the item.
Canada's Commonwealth heritage combined with US proximity means I never have any idea what this means.

I see this as a common misunderstanding all the time. Cops are not 'bad guys' because there are individual bad cops. There are many nice people that are cops. ACAB is a thing because it is literally not possible to be a 'good' cop given the entire purpose of their existence is enforcing unjust laws that have been created by a corrupt and racist system.
They are a force to apply state-sanctioned violence against the least powerful of the state's own people. How can someone possibly be a 'good' member of such a force? This is despite any good things any individual member may do.

That said, the newspaper itself is probably the most NIMBY thing in this story. They run their headline about "concerns" but there's barely anything in the story about that. Most people are in favour of it and just want to ensure there's bike parking?

Fascinating. Reading up more on this Rustad guy now.
First thing I saw was that he was kicked out of the Liberals for denying the climate change effects of carbon dioxide emissions?
I see some of the wilder claims are from his candidates but he brushed aside the 5G genocide by complaining about "cancel culture" apparently lol and still stands behind that candidate even though she's completely bonkers.

Experimented more with other modes/settings! At the end I heard a very strange bird call and turned around to see a pair of pileated woodpeckers in the maple behind us. Plenty of dead branches for them to dig into :)
