But no, very good idea. I'm currently writing a slightly more practicel analysis of the roles (friend, follower, followee, mutual), and rules about those roles, that exist in popular platforms. This should facilitate the discussion.

What do you think? Should #mastodon implement friends-like connections too?
I personally tend to think this should be left to other platforms. Mastodon is good at offering a place where you can #toot.
Other platforms may offer other "roles" for people to play; friends, or colleagues, or connection types we haven't thought of enabling yet.
By choosing a set of roles, a platform sets the boundaries for a particular culture to develop. The UX should facilitate that culture, in terms of functionality and vibe.

The confusion may actually be related to me not choosing sensible setting in the fediverse wp-plugin. The plugin has been updated lately, and I should take a bit of time looking into that. I have a question about #activitypub :
Is there a method for: Following from account xyz only post of a certain type (e.g., images) or a certain hashtag (#abcd).
As an example: I would like to be able only to see the comics that a comic artist posts, but not their further opinion. (type is only image)
Another example from the sender side: I am a music group and I would like to invite people to: "Follow #concert_announcement for @mycrazycoolband"
Maybe @nprofile…2gus knows about this?

@nprofile…ks6m Who made this graph? I do get your point, but these model lines are just default fits in some plotting function, probably part of ggplot. Not some informed forecast. That's why I dislike these plotting functions that make adding such model liles too easy. People use them without knowing what they are doing.

Hello #Tech-loving #Readers in the #fediverse. I have a question :
My niece turns 16 soon. She is a fanatic reader and she's smart, good at languages. She's not in a "nerd bubble", but I would not be surprised if she would actually enjoy learning to code a lot.
As a birthday present, I would therefore like to give her a good #book (English or dutch) that may inspire her to consider learning to code.
Any suggestions?

@nprofile…wt7z Einerseits toll, dass "das Problem" jetzt breit gesehen wird. Ein Verbot ist meiner meinung nach aber eine Scheinlösung, da der Kern des problems, das kranke Aufmerksamkeit-basiertes Business-model, unverändert bleibt. Das muss man kein Kind sein um Opfer zu fallen.
(noch abgesehen davon, dass "social media" sich sehr slecht definieren lässt, ohne dass *alles* verboten wird).

@nprofile…4uhh I would argue against replacing all by one suite. It may be a convenient, but you make yourself dependent again. I use #proton for #VPN and drive. #Fastmail for mail and calendar. For Office stuff, #LibreOffice is perfect for me. Passwords in #Bitwarden. I don't lack any convenience working with these diverse tools.

Security guearantees are precisely opposing this objective and he will thus never accept them. Only if these guarantees are weak enough they will be accepted.
So, Europe, watch out for the trap: If Putin accepts your security guarantees, they are too weak.

I do not particularly like the "suite" that Proton offers. It slowly starts to smell a bit like a juggernaut company. If I were to advice them, I'd say: stop adding products!
