Here's a resource for writing descriptive alt text:
https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-make-posts-more-accessible-to-blind-people-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/
There's also the tried and true method of listening to blind folks on your timeline and other folks who need alt text! They will tell you what they need and want in alt text.
And here's some nuance (though by no means all the nuance):
I know that there are disabled people who are not able to add alt text to their images.
On some days I am one of those people. On some days I'm the one who needs the alt text, not the one who can write it.
(My disability is dynamic: how severe it is differs from day to day, and some days are Very Bad.)
On days when I cannot write alt text, I choose not to post images and wait for a day when I can. I know that for some people there are no days when they can.
Another choice is to ask for help writing alt text, using #Alt4Me or otherwise.
I also know that in desperate moments alt text can seem like too much, even for people who otherwise could write it. I implore you to reclassify alt text as not an extra, but as a central part of messaging, and ask for help: #Alt4Me
(Edit: corrected #/Alt4You to #Alt4Me for asking for help with alt text (sometimes my brain switches stuff like that). Thank you so much to [@ahimsa_pdx](https://disabled.social/@ahimsa_pdx ) for the correction!)

There is no liberation without disability liberation. This is not just a slogan. It needs to be praxis. I implore you to include disabled people in your messaging by using descriptive alt text.
It is much easier to trust that solidarity will flow in both to and fro – which is the only way solidarity actually works – when disabled comrades are included in conversations and calls to action.
It is much easier to believe that someone understands that liberation *must* include rejecting colonial, white supremacist, patriarchal standards when I can perceive efforts to actively include disabled people.
I am a disabled person who at times relies on alt text to parse images (with my dynamic disability, my needs can vary from day to day), and I am asking you:
When you post, practice solidarity with your disables comrades. Solidarity means alt text!

Does anyone know of any online/virtual events for Black August this year?
Hoping to find a virtual gathering that's focused on basic info and history, especially, for a local guide.
Boosts for reach welcome!

Great list of actions.
For boycotting, I like the BoyCat app to look up brands/companies:
https://www.boycat.io
They maintain a list of current BDS boycott targets. You can also search by brand/company on their website.

As always, appreciate your thoughtful approach. I'm very interested to see what y'all will work out for evolving Gaza Verified.
And thank you especially for the information that the individual fundraisers need more attention – that's good to know about.

"You have already made a difference where our “democratically-elected governments” have done absolutely fuck all."
The lack of action – not symbolic gestures, but action – from governments to stop the genocide in Gaza has been agonizing (and sadly not surprising).
What we're left with is that we have to save each other – and of course that can include pressure on governments, but efforts like this are transformative: the strength of creating personal connections and the power of helping one another.
Thank you all for all you are doing. Wishes for safety for you all. ❤️

@npub1nv8…za59 and @npub1p09…m5vl are doing such amazing work to make a real, material difference for families in #Gaza.
I'm terrified for the people in North Gaza, but so hopeful that this effort can help. They've reached the official goal for this campaign, but with more donations, they can help more families.
If you can, please donate to the Gaza Verified emergency appeal:
https://gaza-verified.org/emergency
And please boost Gaza Verified posts, and consider making your own! It all helps. Free Palestine.

I love this glimpse of a better world emerging from the harsher one that was left behind.
They restored the old gardens! Love this. That there was something to restore, some seed of something better already there.
And this:

A memorial to Aaron Bushnell: flowers, Palestinian flags, candles, and a kufiya have been placed in memorial arrangement along with a photograph of Aaron and an illustrated poster.
The poster features an illustration of Aaron with his eyes peacefully closed. His heart is visible, and flames arise from it. He is surrounded by blooming flowers. Lighted candles have been placed on the poster, and roses have been laid alongside it. The poster has the words: "I will no longer be complicit in genocide. Aaron Bushnell, 1999-2024".
The memorial is in a paved square, and behind it several people dressed in black stand facing it.

If you are new to organizing, Small Town Organizing for Anarchists has good information about how to form a working group for direct action and/or mutual aid.

Once you've got your working group together and ready to take action, Don't Just Do Nothing To Counter Fascism has some good, specific suggestions.

Focus on efforts will have the most sustained impact. Build systems that can support other action.
