friendship is important. Don't cut off your friends when they obviously need you. If you actually can't stand the mental cost of staying with them, sure, but not before that. We seriously need to normalize sticking to friends despite some awful views they have because you might turn out their bridge back into sanity or prevent their radicalization. @npub1xcd…yvjh

there were real world hints though. It came from dividing a day. 12 hours first half plus 12 hours second half. 12 because every single civilized society figured out 12 has the most divisors proportionally to how large it is in the nearest vicinity. Then we divide to prima minuta (first order smaller part) to 60 parts. 60 has even better relative ratio of divisors. Then secunda minuta, the second order smaller part. 60th of the 60th of the hour.
It's not enough of the precision for the modern time so we redefined it, but we aimed for the redefined second to be at least just as good as the OG one.

So I went ahead and made a DIY ID holder covered with #FishSkinLeather to replace the one I made out of paper rubbed with wax for protection. The previous one almost fell apart from wear on the edge.
I used paper reinforced with starch glue paste. I used this design, upgraded a bit to expose more of the document. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nCWzeDpgnk
I lined the interior with paper towel using the same starch glue I used to impregnate the paper.
I glued the #FishSkin with shoemakers glue, that's the only non-biodegradable ingredient here.

#fishskinleather was a topic of #solarpunkSunday a couple weeks ago. @npub1san…jgxu posted a several long posts about it and it inspired me to try it out. I've been putting skins to the freezer to try it out and I third it out this weekend, because my family went to the inlaws.
The oil and egg method does not work. Very thick tea - that's what did the job.
Now, I wanted to make an id card holder with it (glue it around an origami card holder I made because paper alone doesn't hold up to the wear), it seemed it will be fine but it shrank and now it's not enough. And I don't know what to do with it.
Well, I'm making 4 more with tea, those that failed to tan in oil and egg. Do you have any ideas what can it be good for?

Getting paid for your work is fine. Don't let anyone tell you that you're evil just because you expect to get paid for your work. When you do it within "their" system, you're being manipulated. For instance the money in the modern system start out as a loan to the investment bank and then to big business and venture capitalists. When they receive it, they dilute the supply, but since they are the first ones to spend it, they take advantage of the undiluted value. By the time the new money come down to the workers as wage, they are worth way less. It's called cantillion effect. It's a value transfer up the capitalist economy.
Ergon is created through work, not through loans. The creation is distributed. So the cantillion effect is not there.
Ergon is also permissionless. You literally just run a program to access money. There's no third party or a bank that can ask you for Id. So if youre an undocumented migrant you can support yourself. Same with any marginalized people.
Imo it subverts the system of systemic discrimination that is a large part of what keeps the capitalists in power.

well, Ergon is an open source project creating a cypher cash - currency with issuance proportional to work. Avoiding the common pitfalls of cryptocurrencies. It creates a stable P2P cash for payments with no pyramids scheme. Ofc when there is no pyramids scheme, there are very few people that actually engage in such a project because that's what people do the "internet money" for. So the project is kind of in a survival mode. What keeps me there is the fact that this kind of technology is unstoppable. And very anticapitalist.

exactly. I would argue that corporations ARR part of the state apparatus. They are created by a monopoly charter, directly or more often indirectly. They only exist because the state wants them. Oppression by corporations is literally one and the same thing as oppression by the government because a corporation is the market arm of state. On top of that, there is no corporations without absentee ownership laws that are 100% enforced by the state. A corporation is a legalese fiction that isolates the owners from legal consequences of the corporation actions and from financial responsibility.

So apparently the #KesslerSyndrome has already started. The amount of avoidance maneuvers grew 3x over the last 6 months, and the amount of junk in the orbit went up by 40% over the last 5 years.
What now? It's hard to internalize that it's already here. It will be a quick ride from now. It goes exponential. Hug your GPS, satelite tv, the weather reports, the space photos. It's the end of the space age. We will be telling our grand children how cool it was.
And maybe, if they are lucky, the moon will herd the debris into an orbital ring. It will be magnificent.
What should we be doing to prepare for this? What are your thoughts?

read about the history of how the first international was destroyed to get rid of the decentralist Anarcho-communist faction, if you aren't even aware of any alternative to the authoritarian nightmare you're proposing.
There is a rich tradition of what is the plan. The plan is to abolish all hierarchies and get rid of authorities. Build The voluntary anarchist order. The dictatorship of the proletariat in the Soviet union (I'm from a post Soviet state, I know what I'm talking about) was merely the same old tired scheme of authoritarianism dressed up in the leftwing narrative.
The antifa has three arrows. Better read up what they symbolize before you unwillingly start supporting what you'd hate. I checked your wall. I agree with most of what you write. :ironfront:

#Trains enabled the emergence of mass production, being the necessary govt subsidy for the big, remote factories to make sense. They were foundational to the emergence of #capitalism. There's a reason the construction of the railway is the topic of every single #western movie and is never portrayed favorably.
Railway is a uniformed service. Highly hierarchical, centralized and beloved by every single authoritarian state from the past. Have been used by authoritarian propaganda for as long as it existed.
Why are people on the #left now preaching it so much? Plus, why are trains the special interest of so many people?

I'm not gonna deny that #verticalfarming is being used for green washing and the startups related to that are the worst. Let's not flush the baby with the bath water though. Hydroponics, aquaponics and so on are still a great idea, it's only that it's always that without the social change, #solarpunk is green washing.
As a practicioner of #aquaponics, I see it like this. Vertical farming, if done right is an extremely efficient use of water, and nearly 100% use of the added fertilizer, or as it is in the case of aquaponics, added fish feed nitrogen. If a building was like a cohousing project, with every family on the southern side of the building having a few rows of the nutrient film pipes for their own fitting, it might actually be great. not as a top down approach, but withing a communal effort. At the ground level or below ground, there might be a hidden fish tank and the filters, the feed there doesn't need to be transported up with any elevators but simply pumped up to the roof and then gravitationally distributed to the flats.
The best outcome would be not only locally grown vegetables, but also out-of-market ways of sustaining people. Large system is always more stable than a small ones. Vertical farming is only possible now because we have reliable water and air pumps.
As I said, it's a really good idea, just that it's often presented without any social change, as green washing.

Wtedy nie ma problemu z tym, że system zostanie nadużyty do prześladowania konkretnych ludzi

I have those too. I tried pelargonic acid last year - it completely burned the leaves in just hours but eventually the invasive plants just grew back. Tough problem

I'm waiting for a #linuxphone that comes with a universal software defined radio peripherial instead of a closed LTE/4G modem and the calling, texting and networking is just realized on the SDR module.

Normalize #anticonsumerism by saying your old electronics are covered with #patina
Broken screen? That's patina babe.
Out of #fashion #design? Yup. That's also patina.
Start feeling good about your environmental choices! Patina is luxurious and is something to be proud of. It can't be faked.
Even cheap things become luxurious when they age - they pass the survivorship bias filter. They must have been exceptional to survive, even if they were low end back then.
Keep your stuff as long as possible. Embrace #patina and show off your old stuff with the #patina hashtag!

Each of the groups would have to be taken over separately by independent assholes. We're talking thousands of separate informal groups. It's a completely different structure than a hierarchal top-down structure of the govt. Way more resilient and self governed.

Ok, I can officially say that I don't get #jsonLD. #ActivityPub uses it, #fediverse is built on it. But it doesnt actually give any boost in interoperability. The applications themself must be written with interoperability in mind. It's just fancy aliasing mechanism, am I wrong about it? Maybe that's what it's supposed to be? Was I wrong expecting it to be anything more? It doesn't do any heavy lifting besides the aliasing. It only serves as a reminder to look up the docs of a protocol. You could just as well just get the protocol spec out and it would be equivalent. What's the point?

take your music with you
The example command on Linux
`pw-record --target "Firefox" "my_spotify_favourites.wav"`
And leave it for the night, playing your favourites playlist. You can use some patch-by to disconnect the browser from the output and keep using your computer without worrying some bleep will get recorded along.
The file will be pretty big so male sure to run
`ffmpeg -i my_spotify_favourites.wav -c:a aac -b:a 128k my_spotify_favourites.mp4` to shrink it while keeping the best quality from the web client :)

I just checked that there is plenty of definitions of nationalism, the one I used is "all things come secondary to the interest of a nation". Statism is much more clear. It's defined as the belief in legitimacy of state power. In that sense, Jews in diaspora can be well nationalist without being Zionist. Zionism is the project of making a state for the Jewish nation. The concept of a nation states is a very new invention. Roughly 3 to 4 hundred years old. Judaism is an order of magnitude older than that. Zionism is a manifestation of statism, the OPs point is to not be breading antisemitism with anti-zionism. For instance, a consistent stance of an anti-zionism would be that I'd rather have a Jewish neighbor than have him migrate to pursue this project. No anti-Semitism here.

Consider this. You can oppose to statism in your own country as well as statism in any other. I cringe and oppose Polish nationalists and statists, US nationalists and statists even though I'm not from there and I don't live there and I have every right to cringe and oppose Zionism, which is statism rather than nationalism, isn't it.

Back in 2015-16 AI was a technical term, a controversial one. I remember my friends talking about how controversial it was in the academia, people outside of the field thinking the specialists in the field are doing quackery while they were using this term. My roommate was a CTO at a company building a recommender system and he was referring to his work as AI. The modern AI is technically generative AI.

Nah, prolog was cool and nerdy. Fuzzy logic is based. Machine learning is quite awesome. Only the gen AI is cringe and not even because of the underlying tech but because of the culture around it.
