i think this is definitely a grift and also a symbol of what happens with excess capital concentration. these people have so much money that they're proposing these outlandish projects because they can't find anything else to do with it. being a horrendous dictatorship lets them do away with niceties such as displacing people.

we appear to have a marbled orb weaver spider taking up residence in our yard. this spider has woven giant webs across our path to the backyard, which i keep dismantling. i first saw it on the wall of the house last week. it was about the size of a quarter. the only sign of it lately has been the reconstructed web. hopefully it finds a less disruptive spot for its web. there's a nice redbud right there. #spiders #insects #arachnids

there is some very cool research going on in a cave in the grand canyon. there are hundreds, maybe thousands of dead bats, all with their soft tissue preserved. some are between 3700 and 31000 years old! there are other samples from the cave that are too old for carbon dating! #bats #science #grandcanyon

illegal gas station update:
i spoke with the fire marshal about the incident in the screenshot above, obviously saying that i didn't know if it was our dude or someone else. given the history, it's reasonable to suspect him. the marshal told me that our friend has a hearing this week regarding the gas station where they hope that he will learn the error of his ways.
spoiler: he won't.

illegal gas station update:
the court date resulted in the dude getting a six month sentence with all days but one suspended. he pled guilty to one burglary charge and the rest of the charges have a status of stet. that basically means the decision on them has been postponed indefinitely. he spent a night in jail and the story continues! interestingly enough, the record of the charges that he faced in frederick has disappeared from the court records online.
