Incredible thread.
Answered some of my questions about what people think the future will be if everyone codes like this. It seems to be: instead of thinking about constraints of any kind or "what is the most efficient way to do Y or the most readable way to do Z?" answer the question, "what is the most brute force way to perform X if I pretend that there are no resource constraints and nothing needs to make sense as long as I see some sort of test passing? Just ship it with spaghetti code.

This "careful" "AI Safety" company that just accidentally leaked its entire source code to the world is the one that African governments are entering into agreements with to include in infrastructures from health care to god knows what.
These are the products people have to use to make sure that they don't get dinged in their performance reviews for "not using AI."

You don't believe Altman is such a figure but you think Amodei, who insisted that OpenAI use all 10,000 GPUs and train the biggest model possible, when he was there, is such a figure?
In his video, Bernie is literally creating a Claude ad, showing the system as an all knowing being that answers all of his questions. An ad for Anthropic, a company claiming that they can't even confidently say that "Claude isn't conscious".

Bernie has been repeating, almost verbatim, Dario Amodei's talking points, for a while now, even quote tweeting him. Amodei positions Anthropic as the ethical alternative to OpenAI just like OpenAI positioned itself as the ethical alternative to Google in 2015 and everyone ate it up. As someone who came to the US as a refugee with political asylum I can't overstate how cruel this is. I was already terrified and had nightmares every day. And here they're telling you that you didn't get to safety after all that, that they will reverse your status on a whim, if they deem it safe for you to return. I made the mistake of being interviewed for "The AI Doc," and have learned my lesson on better vetting for next time.They even feature some explicit eugenicists (e.g. cult leader who has nothing to show for except for his eugenicist self and writing a Harry Potter fan fiction).
They sprinkle some of us in like chocolate chips to perform ethics washing for the people they really wanted to platform. I don't recommend it.

The Future of Life Institute was started by someone who believed that only the building of so-called AGI would stop us from the "cosmocalypse" BTW. Techniques using statistical ML weren't bucketed under "AI" when those techniques weren't the things that showed high performance on whatever tasks people thought were "AI" tasks in the 80s.

Those in signal processing may know the level to which the much more hypes field of machine learning uses so many concepts from information theory. But machine learning wasn't "AI" before.
Even under ML, are kernel techniques AI? Or is it just neural networks and the term "deep learning" which I learned was created to avoid the stigma around "neural networks" that existed in ML before?

Is logistic regression "AI"? What about convex optimization? Are LLMs AI? What about an image recognition system built without using "feature learning" techniques but done through "feature engineering"?
Is the resulting model AI or the technique that is used to build the model or the task that said model is solving? What about statistics? Is that "AI"? Which parts of it are "AI" vs not? What about information theory?

Now, ChatGPT is bucketed under the same term as a model trained to translate a specific language into another and which is carefully trained through curated data.
This model is also bucketed under the same term as a plant recognition tool built exclusively to do that task and trained and evaluated only on data related to that task.
This tool is also bucketed under the same term as the different types of techniques that are used to train the model used in the tool vs the resulting tool itself.

Wildly different things, tasks, techniques, subspecialties being lumped into "AI" and then being conflated with each other, doesn't help. Different types of models vs the techniques to train them vs the tasks they are supposed to accomplish, all being bucketed under "AI", is misleading. The woman whose face you see here, Hermela, was harassing so many journalists covering the genocide, and me personally, that I had documented what she said and did with screenshots and citations. You know me.
I sent a letter with those links to Maxine Waters's office when I found out she had the audacity to be hired as her communication's lead as she was chief genocide entrepreneur. When others found out, there was such a deluge of calls that she was fired from the position within a week.

On the other hand, we consider the injection of such a prompt by an author to be an attempt at collusion which would similarly be a code of ethics violation."

I just learned from @npub1x4f…d45t about how Leibniz discussed calculus while corresponding with his benefactor. She shared that in a letter in 1673, he wrote that his machine was meant to substitute human calculus/thinking "in accounting, measurement, fortification, shipping, indeed all of mathematics & mechanics, as well as commerce & finance, reducing human labor by half & saving on the unnecessary number of people required for these tasks & on many wages."
