I think a majority of Trump voters actually knew what Trump was and voted for him because that is what 50% of Americans aspire to.
That is the sad thing.
Our brains have been corrupted and rotted to the core in stages, first by funniest home videos, then reality TV, algorithms on social media, misogynistic influencers and click bait by mainstream media, mixed with the worst elements of RW christo-fascism.
People are after the quick buck, the fame, the middle finger to the world, showing women, LGBTQI+, POC and immigrants they can dominate and be cruel to them legally.
Very easy to blame the Democratic Party, but if you have a significant core in society who thinks this way, policies and positive engagement won't move the needle.
We need to have a wider discussion.
We need rethink how we combat racism, misogyny and bigotry.
The Project 2025 agenda, gutting education and enforcing censorship will only exacerbate the situation.
I fear for the future.

We were diagnosed with a cancer in 2016 that had been growing undetected. It took us by surprise.
We took up exercise, like marching with many other women, we became more engaged in decisions about our body, we fought the cancer.
Finally cancer was surgically removed in 2020. After 4 days, our sugeon gave us the verdict, we were cancer free!
We danced in the streets.
But unbeknown to us, the cancer hadn't been fully excised. On the surface things appeared normal for a while, but the cancer was multiplying. Taking hold in different parts of the body.
Yesterday we got our final diagnosis. Metastatic cancer. Terminal.
The cancer cells cheered.
But what the cancer cells don't realise, is when the body dies around them, they die too...

I'm going to an election party and I'm somewhat regretting that decision.
Think I'd rather watch on my own like I did in 2020, surrounded by my map, my notes, my seats to watch list, my back of the envelope calculations, my own stresses and my pocket friends. I lived on the couch for 4 straight days...but by Fri arvo I had gone out to buy the champagne, even though it took another 36hrs to confirm the win...
Maybe I'm just antisocial!
I left my workmates an EC map and a blue pencil. They'll have it on in the office tomorrow.

I beg to differ. Although Ms Lewinsky has framed it differently over the years in 2018:
"She did write that looking back at her relationship with Bill Clinton, although it was consensual, because he was 27 years older than she and in a position with a lot more power than she had, in her opinion the relationship constituted an "abuse of power" on Clinton's part. Angry because he abused his power while in office by having a relationship with a subordinate.
That led to his impeachment and a valid reason for people to go back to the GOP.
It also meant he was distracted as hell with his personal life, as was the entire country, when the nation could have been focused elsewhere.
It turned the presidency into a circus act, which you could claim allowed dangerous people like Trump to flourish later on.

I work with an American colleague here in Australia, he just returned from 3 weeks in the US, introducing his Australian partner (female) to his family.
Today was his first day back in the office, and he was talking about how well it went, and the prospect of them moving back to the US at some point.
Someone (not me, although I had been busting to ask) asked if he had voted.
He said he had planned to, but in the end it wasn't his priority, and it didn't happen.
We know his partner, and someone (again, not me although I had wanted to) quipped that she maybe she won't want to go back again, depending on the outcome.
His head whipped up like the thought hadn't occurred to him before.
Yes, he is from a swing state, with a borderline Senate race too.
Yes, we just saw white, male privilege at work.
I went back to my desk and shed a tear.

Who would have thought that over 50 years after Roe v Wade, this is where the US would be?
But this election is about so much more than women's healthcare.
If you strip away at the fundamental right for 50% of the population to control their own body, while blatantly supporting an insurrection, you are shamelessly signalling that this is the tip of the iceberg.
It is literally about fascism.
