This afternoon we went over to @npub1s0h…2zzu's for a game of Warhammer Underworlds! (The old edition, not the new one: we play infrequently enough that I can't justify buying a bunch more stuff).
I played the vampires of The Crimson Court, @npub1mem…atst had the sneaky aelves of the Shadeborn, and @npub1s0h…2zzu played Nurgle's finest The Wurmspat. The final score was 15-8-8 to The Crimson Court, but @npub1mem…atst had quite a comeback and scored five glory right at the end, which would have made for a VERY tight game except I managed to net SIX glory shooting me out in front to 15. 😅 Definitely want to play again sooner than six months from now (the last game we had was in June, oops). And maybe that'll give me some impetus to actually paint the *cough*ten*cough* warbands I still haven't painted yet. 🙃

Today I went over to a friend's place for a painting day! I got the drybrushing for ALL of my remaining Hivestorm terrain done, and then we finished the day off with a good hour-long splash around in the pool.

Right, that's the two Plague Marines that I need to make a squad for the new edition of Kill Team ready for painting! The one on the left with the Plague Spewer is actually a conversion I kitbashed but never painted back when the previous 2021 edition of Kill Team came out, and the Malignant Plaguecaster on the right is even older than that: he dates from the Warhammer 40,000: Dark Imperium box that I bought back in 2018 or so.
I don't technically have a WYSIWYG Plague Champion to use as my leader because my Champion that has a plasma pistol has a powerfist instead of a plague sword. I'm going to use the old Noxious Blightbringer model that's also from the Dark Imperium because because he _does_ have a plasma pistol and is holding a bell in his other hand, rather than having a specific weapon that someone might be confused by, plus it's just an AWESOME model and I've never had a chance to use it. He's on a 40mm base rather than 32mm but I can't be bothered trying to rebase him because he's already fully painted, and we just play casually anyway.

Hahaha I pretty much discovered the same thing with my Angels of Death as well. I enjoying doing my Plague Marines though, I think because they're so varied and have so many interesting little details, and aren't just carbon copies of the same thing. 😅

We had @npub1xdv…eyqr over again for a continuation of our Warhammer Quest adventures, and it went a lot better than last time. This game was a "Decapitation" journey where we're off to kill one of the big bads, it's split into two stages where the first one involves fighting through to find their lair, and the second is actually killing the boss itself. We did just the first stage tonight, and ended up getting almost everyone inspired within the first two turns, which meant we were steamrollering through the hostiles for a while, though our momentum ended up grinding to a halt when @npub1mem…atst's warrior was extremely badly wounded taking on a room full of skeletons and had to hang back until we could heal her up. Next time it's going to be taking out Watch Captain Halgrim, the skeleton warrior boss, and nothing except his skeletal Ulfenwatch minions.

I was so pleased to see that the Death Guard had rules for KT24! I enjoyed playing them in KT21, and while my Champion doesn't quite have WSYIWYG, I just need to paint up my Malignant Plaguecaster from the old Warhammer 40,000 Dark Imperium box from _quite_ a few years ago now, plus my Plague Spewer guy, and I've got a squad I can field for KT24. :success:

I'm actually not entirely sure I'd seen the whole of the movie until last month when I watched it on the flight back from Perth. 😅
I have a definite memory of the face-hugger scene when they're trying to get it off what's-his-face in the medical lab, but I don't know if that's because I saw that scene by itself, but NONE of the rest of the movie was familiar at all!

We had our first game of the new edition of Kill Team last night!
Only got through two rounds, and we played without equipment—apart from barricades, just to match it from the last edition—but I'm _really_ liking how streamlined the rules are, the new rules for line of sight and over are SO much clearer now. In terms of actually scoring anything it was a miserable failure on my part, I didn't get anything at all but that was mostly my fault for fucking up my deployment (and I now have a whole new set of chapter tactics I need to remember as well), but that's fine, this was just a "Get used to the rules" game anyway. I _am_ disappointed at how much of a nerf plasma has had though... even when supercharged, my Assault Intercessor's plasma pistol is only 4/5 damage, Piercing 1.
Side note, the Nemesis Claw "You're obscured if you're within one inch of heavy terrain" rule is SO IRRITATING. 😛 At least they _can_ be shot at now, but obscuring still means that you're very unlikely to deal any damage unless you roll really well AND the Nemesis Claw player rolls really poorly.

Haha I actually tried that and it just didn't click for me (though moreso on Mac, I've actually moved to using the Phanpy frontend on desktop). Plus Ice Cubes is noticeably jerky when scrolling on my old 2018 iPad Pro, whereas both Toot! and Tusker are much smoother.

Holy shit, the Rijksmuseum used a 100MP Hasselblad camera to take almost eight and a half THOUSAND photos of the whole of Rembrandt's The Night Watch, for a total image size of 717 GIGAPIXELS. 😳

Another #WarhammerQuest journey with @npub1xdv…eyqr today, and oh my GOD was it a shocker. 😫
We played a Scavenge journey where you go around searching for loot and fighting off hostiles, but Radukar the Wolf (the MAIN big bad of the whole game) made his first appearance, my character Cleona was so badly wounded she ended up out of action (thankfully she didn't end up dying), everyone was constantly failing attacks they should have easily made, and we rolled so poorly on the end of turn event table that we ended up at the "Nightfall" point (where all the monsters are much more powerful) FOUR turns earlier than we should have otherwise. 😬
It was an absolute rollercoaster, even outside of Cleona being taken out of action everyone else had multiple times where they'd taken so much damage they were only two short of being taken completely out of action, only to claw their way back and then get wounded all over again, then right at the end it was a mad scramble to get everyone to the exit point. As is frequently the case, hero of the match went to my dwarf Dagnai Holdenstock who was able to be inspired early and just slaughtered his way through everything. He got an upgrade in the post-game phase where damage from his weapons can't be ignored, which is going to be REALLY good because there are three or four types of hostiles that have some sort of "Roll the D12 and on a (certain number) or higher, damage is reduced by X amount" and it bit us so many times.

A full two months after the last game (oops), we had @npub1xdv…eyqr over for another #WarhammerQuest game! We did another Deliverance journey, where you need to stay ahead of the Suffocating Gravetide curse and warn the citizens of its approach, and we absolutely smashed it despite the Vargskyr making an appearance. We found from the last one of these we did that as long as you can get sufficiently ahead at the beginning it's not too much trouble to keep clear of the Gravetide, it's when you get stuck fighting hostiles and can't make any forward progress that you really end up in trouble.
To be fair, @npub1mem…atst's character was VERY heavily wounded in that fight, but thankfully I had a very convenient healing potion equipment I was able to give her and she rolled very well and was able to recover all the wounds she'd lost. We did a lot better this game, everyone ended up inspired, and my dwarf Dagnai singlehandedly faced down an entire room of zombies and skeletons and took most of them out, barely taking a scratch in return!
The next game is going to be a rough start though, I rolled EXTREMELY poorly on the event table at the end of the game, and THE big bad, Radukar the Wolf, is going to make an appearance at the beginning of next game despite him ordinarily not showing up until we're Level 3 (we're Level 2 right now). 😬

We continued our #WarhammerQuest campaign today with @npub1xdv…eyqr by slaying the mighty Vargskyr!
It was a very interesting variation on the standard journeys: instead of the hostiles we faced being randomly selected from the encounter deck, we started out with all six corpse rats and all six dire bats, divided into two groups, plus the Vargskyr itself. The Vargskyr didn't start on the battlefield and they represented it striking stealthily from the shadows by making its activation involve rolling the D12 and whichever of the lychgates (the red door things on the edges of the tiles) was on the die, the hero closest to that would just straight up take a damage, no saving throw or anything. To actually get it to come out in order to damage it, you had to get to the "mysterious objects", which are the skeletons and the columns with the raven on top, at which point it'd pop out and absolutely wallop the hero that activated it, then vanish as soon as any damage was done to it, and you'd have to get to the next mysterious object, and so on.
It started out looking VERY rough, almost everyone was at half health quite quickly, but thankfully we were able to rally and once we got through the initial hostiles that started on the battlefield we had some very lucky rolling where the hostiles _didn't_ respawn when it was their turn to activate. After that it was a case of getting enough damage onto the Vargskyr which we were able to do (and once all the mysterious objects were gone it'd remain on the battlefield so we could really wail on it).
So now we're all at Level 2, so there'll be more hostiles to face, and the Vargskyr will actually potentially come back as one of the hostiles drawn from the encounter deck when we play our next regular game! 😬

@npub1mem…atst and I started a new campaign of #WarhammerQuest with the last four heroes this afternoon! @npub1mem…atst went with the two heavy hitters and so I took Qulathis the Exile and Octren Glimscry who are are much more fragile but can still deal a reasonable amount of damage. We began with a Scavenge journey in order to start gearing up early, there were a few rough moments and some terrible early rolling, but we actually managed to get all four heroes inspired—which we've never done before—and ended up with some good equipment out of it! Lore-wise the location we started out in was the Ven Alten estate, Ven Alten being the family of one of the heroes @npub1mem…atst is playing.
And pleasingly, with the rest of the zombies and bats fully painted, we didn't need to resort to ANY unpainted miniatures at all!
