Same with users. I feel his pain deeply. I’ve managed to stick around because of a lot of help from my parents and many developers around the world who have been extra kind and patient with me and my team. But Nostr needs basic stability across a few good solutions first and it needs to stop leaving half finished projects on the table and moving on to something new. I was told blossom servers would not work 6 months ago but numerous developers kept pushing me towards blossom - - all only to hear, again, blossom won’t likely work long term for media protection. I keep saying it but if developers would actually listen to users, maybe we could get some traction here.

I am interested in this, seems like a great move in the right direction for IP protected media. But it still seems like you need to be running your own node to use this? - Start 9 or Umbrel - Is that right? I understand the benefit of having a node but most musicians don't have the money to buy one of these machines. Thanks for pushing the needle forward for helping content creators protect their media. 👏🏻

@nprofile…75gh I'm not at all emotional. Not sure how many more times I'll need to tell you that. I'm just giving my perspective and you are coming after me and everyone who has commented on this thread. Discovery has been broken for over a decade. Spotify and TikTok killed real fan discovery for everyone. The Arctic Monkeys - and Taylor Swift - were both lucky to have My Space to help them build their fan bases (that was almost 25 years ago. Nostr could be the "my space" for my generation of artists. But the truth is there isn't enough traction yet. I have been one of the VERY LUCKY few who have been able to reach new people and make a lot of new friends around the world using Nostr. I have seen success in getting my music heard by new people and many here on Nostr have supported me - generously. But the 2,000 or so other artists on Nostr (many of my friends) have not seen the same results, and it's not because they don't have great art. There are just not enough people here, willing to support this new music economy with their own personal Bitcoin. I don't know how it is in Thailand, but I can tell you in the U.S. it's hard to get people to part with their sats. So, until every artist, or at least the good ones, can come to Nostr and have the same experience I have, then we have to admit we just are not there yet. Without some initial return of value (or return on investment), artists will eventually "go out of business." AI has already shown us that if you want free art, it's usually slop. So, As I said in my last message, I get it. I understand your arguments. I just don't think that the vast majority of the world wants bad art for the rest of eternity. Film, TV and books all have the same issues I'm raising here for music. It's not about wanting paywalls, it's about finding and connecting with the people willing to support the art we create. We need tools that enable that, discovery with value enabled. Value 4 Value Music has shown it can be done. We need to figure out how to scale it in a way that will help artists find a better more creatively fulling future. Peace Out! Keep on Rocking in Thailand 🤘🏻

@nprofile…75gh I understand the arguments from all sides but with music, movies and books creators are spending huge amounts of money to create art that should be protected or monetizable - at minimum so creators can continue to make more art. This is the first I knew about Anna's Archive. It appears you have to be a member of Anna's Archive to access the copied content they "preserve" under the guise of a non-profit freedom hub. But I did not distribute my music to Anna's Archive or give them permission to copy it freely. So it's not emotional, it is theft. I want the music I create to be available to anyone who wants to hear it but I have to find a way to be compensated for the $12,000 US dollars I spent to make the record(s). If art is not monetizable then we will all be relegated to AI Slop for the rest of eternity. I don't know about you but I'd still love to discover and follow and support my favorite artists in the world. The issue is that we have never had a way to do that (support with money) across borders and electronically. That is what Bitcoin Fixes. It's a beautiful solution to a100 year old problem. My hope is that we see people build solutions that support the creation of art, not kill it.

This is theft. No matter how you look at it. This makes everything every artist has ever made free. If a library of books was stolen like this there would be lawsuits. I expect Spotify will sue over this, not that I support them or this activity. But I don't know what good will come out of lawsuits by a company only interested in self-preservation. What we need is an instant, global, frictionless way for fans to support art directly. The Bitcoin and Nostr communities aren't big enough to help cover costs for music yet. @nprofile…4au3 and I have both traveled, great distances, to perform for the communities (Bitcoin and Nostr) but always at my own expense. I know @nprofile…2jjt has traveled extensively as well and not been able to figure out how to monetize it in a way that makes sense. He even wrote a Bitcoin Manifesto about it! Like Joe, I think it's coming - - one day. But we really need global listeners - our fans - to want to be here and they are not here yet. I love this community but I find that it is mostly developers and developer adjacent (podcasters, entreprenuers, those that were deplatformed for one reason or another). The music community is growing but until the normie can support music with Bitcoin (maybe without even knowing it) we will continue to struggle to find enough people to support even the most basic cost coverage.

Over the years I’ve been asked so many times, “how can I support you directly?” Now, because of Tidal and @nprofile…9kw0 I finally have a good answer. Instead of hoping that a fraction of the twenty dollars a month you spend on streaming platform subscriptions will make its way to me, listen to “People Pleaser” and the rest of my debut album on Tidal and send direct payments through the Cash App integration feature. Artists should be able to make a living off the art they create, so stop pleasing platforms, and start pleasing artists now on Tidal. 💛✨

Tools like #TidalUpload and the new @nprofile…w5fr integration feature are truly game changers, not only for independent artists, but fans too. At this point, everyone is aware of the issues artists face when putting up their music on the main streaming platforms, but at some point, it’s up to the fans just as much as the artists to make any real change. It sounds overwhelming, but it starts by supporting just one song or artist differently. I’ve tried it a couple different ways and have never had any real success with it. I get the idea but I just don’t know if there is enough traffic to specifically blockchain apps to support it widely enough. I say whatever works for you!

Tidal has removed the gatekeeping entirely with #tidalupload - 100% free to upload removes the cost of distribution (distrokid and cd baby for example) which has been on the back of indie artists for a decade. And with 100% of @npub1cas…dg5l payments going to artists (no fees taken by tidal or @cashapp) we’ve removed publishing and collections middlemen. HUge Win! #Tidalupload is not DeMu and I don’t think they are attempting to be that. DeMu is not ready for prime time yet. While V4V apps are allowing artists like me to begin to get paid (🙌) the DeMu distribution process has no protections for music IP or licensing considerations. Once an artist distributes their music on a free and open market - anyone (ie: Netflix or Disney) can make the case that the music is free and public fair use and they would owe nothing to put it in a blockbuster movie, robbing artists of possible windfalls. All of these improvements are a HUGE step in the right direction but with 2.5 years experience around this now, I think we are still a long way off from any real solution to disrupting traditional music industry processes. Since @tidal @npub1cas…dg5l @npub1sg6…f63m are innovating across Bitcoin I think @tidal might be a Trojan Horse to the traditional music industry who has done nothing to improve the revenue stream for indie musicians in decades.

Yes. Encouraging. I reached out to them. My folks have been working on the back end trying to help solve the IP problem and we understand the pushback with blockchain. I think the publishing answer is with blockchain though. The free and open or V4V is also a very hard sell on the artist side. The average album costs 12,000 USD and hoping people send value isn’t the best business strategy either. You’ve probably found here in Nostrland that many people disagree with me on this. BUt we absolutely need a return to music being valued, not free.

2025 was magical 🪄 I released my first album and completely rethought what success means for independent artists. For the first time I had moments that made me think "this is what the music industry is supposed to be like."
But I'm still disillusioned with traditional platforms. @boka I think the issue is that RSS and Nostr are separate protocols. Both do incredible things for music that most musicians don’t know about yet because collectively we are brainwashed by traditional distribution that point and click upload/distribution is the standard. Anyone can use these tools but it’s not a point and click experience. It’s not that we (musicians collectively) need it dumbed down either it’s just that we are using all of our time and brain power to make amazing music. We need a distribution UI that allows artists to upload and attach a wallet with splits that we can control AND that works with both ecosystems seamlessly. Ideally it would even work with traditional distribution…. Like Tidal. TIdal is making BIG moves in the space but all through the @block companies, specifically @npub1cas…dg5l - Artists can upload direct (at no charge) and be paid direct (from supporters and fans) via Cash App (I’m hoping bitcoin soon🤞) Be sure to check out Tidal Upload (separate from the normal tidal experience) if you have not already.
As @npub19r9…eukr said it’s early and we are just not there yet. That said some of us have been at it now for years without any real improvement on the UI side.
I’m hoping in 2026 we will bring a lot more collaboration between #nostr and #rss that addresses USER needs specifically.
I love my many DEV friends around the world but we need developers building for users. This feels like the biggest oversight to me in the space. More user solutions less vibe coding.
